For inversion problems in which the theoretical relationship between observed data and model parameters is well characterized, a promising approach to the classification problem is the application of techniques that capitalize on the predictive power of class-specific models. Theoretical models have been developed for three zooplankton scattering classes (hard elastic-shelled, e.g., pteropods; fluid-like, e.g., euphausiids; and gas-bearing, e.g., siphonophores), providing a sound basis for model-based classification approaches. The covariance mean variance classification (CMVC) techniques classify broad-band echoes from individual zooplankton based on comparisons of observed echo spectra to model space realizations. Three different CMVC algorithms were developed: the integrated score classifier, the pairwise score classifier, and the Bayesian probability classifier; these classifiers assign observations to a class based on similarities in covariance, mean, and variance while accounting for model spare ambiguity and validity. The CMVC techniques were applied to broad-band (~350-750 kHz) echoes acquired from 24 different zooplankton to invert for scatterer class and properties. All three classification algorithms had a high rate of success with high-quality high SNR data. There is evidence for the existence of massive planets at orbital radii of several hundred au from their parent stars where the time-scale for planet formation by core accretion is longer than the disc lifetime. These planets could have formed close to their star and then migrated outwards. We consider how the transfer of angular momentum by viscous disc interactions from a massive inner planet could cause significant outward migration of a smaller outer planet. We find that it is in principle possible for planets to migrate to large radii. We note, however, a number of effects which may render the process somewhat problematic. 相似文献

We present spectrophotometry andUBV photometry of the central region of spiral galaxies. The sample consists of the Seyfert galaxies NGC 1566, 3783 and IC 4329A; NGC 1097, 2997, and 5236 containing peculiar nucleus and NGC 5530, 5643, and 6699 with normal nucleus.The stellar composition of the nuclei was derived by treating the equivalent widths of a sample of absorption lines with the method of constrained nonlinear optimization. The observed continua and theUBV colours were compared with the theoretical results in order to obtain the internal reddening and the contribution of the hot gas or non-thermal radiation. The age of the last cycle of star formation, the internal absorption and the theoretical relations M/L and H/K Caii present differences among the three types of nuclei. 相似文献

High-resolution white-light pictures are analyzed to study the differences between the granular size near sunspot penumbrae and in light-bridges presenting granular structure and that of the quiet photosphere. No difference is found between the mean granular diameter in light-bridges and the quiet photosphere. The dispersion found in the results corresponding to different zones around the sunspots indicates that the size of the granulation may vary from place to place near the sunspots, its mean value not differing significantly from that of the quiet photosphere. A progressive perceptual understanding approach was used to identify a model structure able to represent the non‐linear behaviour of the hydrological cycle in a small intermittent Mediterranean stream. The initial lumped model structure consisting of a series of four connected water tanks (LU3) progressed to a model with five tanks (LU4), and finally to a semidistributed model structure (SD4) in which spatial variability of the evapotranspiration according to the vegetation cover and to the local aspect was considered. In the final model structure, which gave the best fit (Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency index = 0·78), an additional tank representing the riparian zone was included (SD4‐R). Results showed that the abrupt changes of the riparian water table during summer and the formation of a perched water table during the transition from dry to wet conditions were the main mechanisms leading to the non‐linear hydrological behaviour. The transpiration process from the saturated zone and the spatial variability of evapotranspiration resulted in key factors successfully representing the annual water balance. The spatial and temporal validations carried out for each of the four model structures considered in this study supported the hypothesis adopted during the calibration process. We present GPS observations in Morocco and adjacent areas of Spain from 15 continuous (CGPS) and 31 survey-mode (SGPS) sites extending from the stable part of the Nubian plate to central Spain. We determine a robust velocity field for the W Mediterranean that we use to constrain models for the Iberia-Nubia plate boundary. South of the High Atlas Mountain system, GPS motions are consistent with Nubia plate motions from prior geodetic studies. We constrain shortening in the Atlas system to <1.5 mm/yr, 95% confidence level. North of the Atlas Mountains, the GPS velocities indicate Nubia motion with respect to Eurasia, but also a component of motion normal to the direction of Nubia-Eurasia motion, consisting of southward translation of the Rif Mountains in N Morocco at rates exceeding 5 mm/yr. This southward motion appears to be directly related to Miocene opening of the Alboran Sea. The Betic Mountain system north of the Alboran Sea is characterized by WNW motion with respect to Eurasia at ~1–2 mm/yr, paralleling Nubia-Eurasia relative motion. In addition, sites located in the Betics north of the southerly moving Rif Mountains also indicate a component of southerly motion with respect to Eurasia. We interpret this as indicating that deformation associated with Nubia-Eurasia plate motion extends into the southern Betics, but also that the Betic system may be affected by the same processes that are causing southward motion of the Rif Mountains south of the Alboran Sea. Kinematic modeling indicates that plate boundary geometries that include a boundary through the Straits of Gibraltar are most compatible with the component of motion in the direction of relative plate motion, but that two additional blocks (Alboran-Rif block, Betic Mountain block), independent of both Nubia and Eurasia are needed to account for the motions of the Rif and Betic Mountains normal to the direction of relative plate motion. We speculate that the southward motions of the Alboran-Rif and Betic blocks may be related to mantle flow, possibly induced by southward rollback of the subducted Nubian plate beneath the Alboran Sea and Rif Mountains. 相似文献

This study presents the results of a three‐dimensional variable‐density numerical modelling of the Motril‐Salobreña coastal aquifer and the possible effects of the entry into service in May 2005 of the Rules Dam, located just 17 km from the coast. Present parameters of the Motril‐Salobreña aquifer show that the system's conditions are very similar to a natural regime. The dam will substantially alter aquifer recharge, as the entry flow through the alluvial sediments of the Guadalfeo River will be entirely cut off or drastically reduced. Different scenarios reproducing the possible evolution of the aquifer under operation of the Rules Dam have been modelled. In most cases, results indicate that the conditions of the aquifer would worsen, with a general advance of the freshwater–saltwater interface. The area with most risk of saltwater intrusion is the old mouth of the Guadalfeo River, where the mixing zone could advance 1200 m inland. It is proposed that maintaining a 5–6 Mm3 year?1 ‘ecological flow’ in the Guadalfeo River could prevent this saline advance. This application demonstrates that variable‐density models are potentially useful tools for estimating the effects of dams on the hydrodynamic and hydrochemical conditions of a coastal aquifer. In the framework of Rastall's conservative program for the construction of gravitation theory we present a variant of modified classical gravitation theory based on Einstein's energy-mass equivalence principle. We pursue further the special-relativistic arguments and obtain a theory for the static spherically-symmetric gravitation field that is based only on the well-established physical principles and accounts for all experimental tests known in gravitation. Some astrophysical consequences of the modified classical gravitation theory (e.g., the non-existence of black holes, the creation of real particles in a strong gravitation field) are also discussed. 相似文献

We study the dynamics of a satellite (artificial or natural) orbiting an Earth-like planet at low altitude from an analytical
point of view. The perturbation considered takes into account the gravity attraction of the planet and in particular it is
caused by its inhomogeneous potential. We begin by truncating the equations of motion at second order, that is, incorporating
the zonal and the tesseral harmonics up to order two. The system is formulated as an autonomous Hamiltonian and has three
degrees of freedom. After three successive Lie transformations, the system is normalised with respect to two angular co-ordinates
up to order five in a suitable small parameter given by the quotient between the angular velocity of the planet and the mean
motion of the satellite. Our treatment is free of power expansions of the eccentricity and of truncated Fourier series in
the anomalies. Once these transformations are performed, the truncated Hamiltonian defines a system of one degree of freedom
which is rewritten as a function of two variables which generate a phase space which takes into account all of the symmetries
of the problem. Next an analysis of the system is achieved obtaining up to six relative equilibria and three types of bifurcations.
The connection with the original system is established concluding the existence of various families of invariant 3-tori of
it, as well as quasiperiodic and periodic trajectories. This is achieved by using KAM theory techniques. 相似文献
