A large-scale transfer zone subdivides the northern parts of the Upper Rhine Graben into a northern and a southern sub-basin. These sub-basins display the geometry of asymmetric half-grabens with opposing tilt directions. The transfer zone connects the western master fault of the northern half-graben with the eastern master fault of the southern half-graben. In the northern Upper Rhine Graben early syn-rift sedimentation (Late Priabonian to Late Rupelian) was controlled by the tectonically induced subsidence of these half-grabens (autogenetic), as well as by regional third-order sea level variations (allogenetic). Within the graben, lateral changes in subsidence rates (in dip and strike direction of fault blocks) controlled the development of accommodation space and thus, sediment thickness and facies. Furthermore, a low-displacement segment along the western border fault acted as a sediment entry point. Tectonics controlled the distribution of early syn-rift deposits and the palaeogeography of the northern Upper Rhine Graben. 相似文献

The southern end of the Upper Rhine Graben (URG) is formed by a major continental transfer zone, which was localised by the reactivation of ENE-oriented basement faults of Late Palaeozoic origin. A combination of subcrop data (derived from exploration wells and reflection seismic lines) and palaeostress analysis provided new constraints on the timing and kinematics of interacting basement faults. Rifting in the southern URG began in the Upper Priabonian under regional WNW–ESE-directed extension, oriented roughly perpendicular to the graben axis. In the study area, this led to the formation of NNE-trending half-grabens. Simultaneously, ENE-trending basement faults, situated in the area of the future Rhine-Bresse Transfer Zone (RBTZ), were reactivated in a sinistrally transtensive mode. In the sedimentary cover the strike-slip component was accommodated by the development of en-échelon aligned extensional flexures. Flexuring and interference between the differently oriented basement faults imposed additional, but locally confined extension in the sedimentary cover, which deviated by as much as 90° from the regional WNW–ESE extension. The interference of regional and local stresses led to a regime approaching radial extension at the intersection between the URG and RBTZ. 相似文献

This article aims to explore the role of home‐based production networks within the industrialization process of rural areas in developing countries and its impact on the labor involved. Based on the structures of the Balinese clothing industry, the article explores the organization of production, provision of production and working capital, and composition and origin of labor. This article shows that home‐based batik and embroidery clothing production in Bali is one of very few sources of income beyond agricultural work for immobile, rural labor. However, these production networks within the Balinese clothing industry are defined by weak labor relations vis‐à‐vis the clothing firm's exceptionally strong position. 相似文献

The CONT02 campaign is of great interest for studies combining very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) with other space-geodetic
techniques, because of the continuously available VLBI observations over 2 weeks in October 2002 from a homogeneous network.
Especially, the combination with the Global Positioning System (GPS) offers a broad spectrum of common parameters. We combined
station coordinates, Earth orientation parameters (EOPs) and troposphere parameters consistently in one solution using technique-
specific datum-free normal equation systems. In this paper, we focus on the analyses concerning the EOPs, whereas the comparison
and combination of the troposphere parameters and station coordinates are covered in a companion paper in Journal of Geodesy. In order to demonstrate the potential of the VLBI and GPS space-geodetic techniques, we chose a sub-daily resolution for
polar motion (PM) and universal time (UT). A consequence of this solution set-up is the presence of a one-to-one correlation
between the nutation angles and a retrograde diurnal signal in PM. The Bernese GPS Software used for the combination provides
a constraining approach to handle this singularity. Simulation studies involving both nutation offsets and rates helped to
get a deeper understanding of this singularity. With a rigorous combination of UT1–UTC and length of day (LOD) from VLBI and
GPS, we showed that such a combination works very well and does not suffer from the systematic effects present in the GPS-derived
LOD values. By means of wavelet analyses and the formal errors of the estimates, we explain this important result. The same
holds for the combination of nutation offsets and rates. The local geodetic ties between GPS and VLBI antennas play an essential
role within the inter-technique combination. Several studies already revealed non-negligible discrepancies between the terrestrial
measurements and the space-geodetic solutions. We demonstrate to what extent these discrepancies propagate into the combined

GEOEXPLORER is a knowledge-based system under development to support the prospecting and exploration of supergene deposits. As a new type of multi-stage expert systetn, GEOEXPLORER is not only able to deal with problems of searching for supergene deposits, but will also cover both the evaluation of the spatial occurrences and the economic values of the deposits considered. A first prototype of GEOEXPLORER has been developed for bauxite deposits. It is a rule-based system implemented in PROLOG and can be used to identify favorable areas for bauxite prospecting. We present an analysis of the evolution of the thermal flare plasma during the 14 July 2000, 10 UT, Bastille Day flare event,
using spacecraft data from Yohkoh/HXT, Yohkoh/SXT, GOES, and TRACE. The spatial structure of this double-ribbon flare consists of a curved arcade with some 100 post-flare
loops which brighten up in a sequential manner from highly-sheared low-lying to less-sheared higher-lying bipolar loops. We
reconstruct an instrument-combined, average differential emission measure distribution dEM(T)/dT that ranges from T=1 MK to 40 MK and peaks at T
0=10.9 MK. We find that the time profiles of the different instrument fluxes peak sequentially over 7 minutes with decreasing
temperatures from T≈30 MK to 1 MK, indicating the systematic cooling of the flare plasma. From these temperature-dependent relative peak times
t
peak(T) we reconstruct the average plasma cooling function T(t) for loops observed near the flare peak time, and find that their temperature decrease is initially controlled by conductive
cooling during the first 188 s, T(t)∼[1+(t/τcond)]−2/7, and then by radiative cooling during the next 592 s, T(t)∼[1−(t/τrad)]3/5. From the radiative cooling phase we infer an average electron density of n
e=4.2×1011 cm−3, which implies a filling factor near 100% for the brightest observed 23 loops with diameters of ∼1.8 Mm that appear simultaneously
over the flare peak time and are fully resolved with TRACE. We reproduce the time delays and fluxes of the observed time profiles
near the flare peak self-consistently with a forward-fitting method of a fully analytical model. The total integrated thermal
energy of this flare amounts to E
thermal=2.6×1031 erg.

Field measurements in the atmospheric boundary layer were carried out to identify the effect of atmospheric stability on subgrid-scale physics for large-eddy simulation. The basic instrumentation setup consisted of 12 three-dimensional sonic anemometers arranged in two parallel horizontal arrays (seven sensors in the lower array and five sensors in the upper array). Data from this setup are used to compute the subgrid-scale (SGS) heat fluxes and SGS dissipation of the temperature variance under stable and unstable stability conditions. The relative contribution of the SGS vertical flux to the total turbulent flux increases when going from unstable to stable conditions. The relative importance of negative SGS dissipation (backscatter) events becomes larger under stable conditions. The model coefficients for two well-known SGS models (eddy-viscosity and non-linear) are computed. Model coefficients are found to depend strongly on stability. Under both stable and unstable conditions, large negative SGS dissipation is associated with the onset of ejection events while large positive SGS dissipation tends to occur during the onset of sweep events. These findings are also supported by conditionally sampled 2D velocity and temperature fields obtained using the 12 anemometers placed in a vertical array. 相似文献
