A way of computing the absorption cross-section for photons on electrons undergoing free-free transitions in magnetic plasma is described. Theoretical expressions for the free-free cross sections in magnetic plasma are given in a representation in which they can be easily compared with the classical results in the absence of the magnetic field. The results of numerical computations of these cross-sections are also presented and discussed. Finally the free-free cross-sections are averaged over the electron states in magnetic plasma in thermal equilibrium, yielding the opacity coefficient as a function of photons frequency. The results of numerical computations are given in graphical form.  相似文献

The wave-induced velocity and pressure fields beneath a large amplitude internal solitary wave of depression propagating over a smooth, flat, horizontal, and rigid boundary in a shallow two-layer fluid are computed numerically. A numerical ocean model is utilised, the set-up of which is designed and tuned to replicate the previously published experimental results of Carr and Davies (Phys Fluids 18(1):016,601–1–016,601–10, 2006). Excellent agreement is found between the two data sets and, in particular, the numerical simulation replicates the finding of a reverse flow along the bed aft of the wave. The numerically computed velocity and pressure gradients confirm that the occurrence of the reverse flow is a consequence of boundary layer separation in the adverse pressure gradient region. In addition, vortices associated with the reverse flow are seen to form near the bed.  相似文献

We investigated the sediment-related distribution of both nematodes and macrofauna on the Belgian part of the North Sea (Southern Bight of the North Sea) in order to evaluate whether both faunal groups reflect similar patterns in community composition and diversity. Fine-grained sediments (median grain size <200μm) were inhabited by nematode communities characterised by a low diversity and dominated by non-selective deposit-feeding nematodes. Nematode communities from coarser sediments were significantly different in terms of community composition and diversity. Moreover, all nematode feeding types were present in coarser sediments. These differences were explained by the contrasting biogeochemical processes prevailing in both sediment types, rather than granulometry and food availability per se. Macrofaunal distribution patterns were different from those of the nematode communities and seem to be related to water column processes (SPM loading, food availability, hydrodynamic stress) that promote the establishment of diverse communities in the coarser sediments but not in the finest sediments. This suggests that data on nematodes and macrofauna reveal different, complementary aspects of the factors structuring the benthic ecosystem that can be of importance in assessing the ecological status of the seafloor.  相似文献

The distribution and general population characteristics of five mysid shrimps were investigated in the period 2003–2005 in the Westerschelde estuary, a tidal temperate estuary situated along the Dutch–Belgian border. Multivariate analyses revealed that salinity predominantly governs the spatial distribution of Neomysis integer, Gastrosaccus spinifer, Schistomysis kervillei and Schistomysis spiritus while temperature, and to a lesser extent turbidity, control the distribution of Mesopodopsis slabberi. N. integer is a resident species in the mesohaline zone of the estuary, i.e. all life stages of the species are present in the estuary throughout the year. For the first time since decades N. integer inhabits the oligohaline zone of the estuary supposedly as a consequence of improved oxygen conditions in the upstream reaches. M. slabberi, the most abundant mysid in the Westerschelde, dominates the hyperbenthos of the mesohaline zone of the estuary. The polyhaline zone of the estuary is, most abundantly inhabited by M. slabberi, G. spinifer, S. kervillei and to a lesser extent by S. spiritus. The abundance of the latter four species is low in winter, probably due to a migration towards coastal waters to avoid colder temperatures in the estuary combined with an increased mortality after breeding. The sex ratio of all the mysid populations corresponds to the expected 1:1 female:male ratio and no salinity governed segregation is found between the different life stages of each mysid population. A seasonal variation exists in brood size in the N. integer population regardless of the body size, with a larger number of broods during winter and spring compared to the summer. In the other mysid populations the brood sizes vary only with the length of the ovigerous females.  相似文献

X-ray spectroscopy performed by different astronomical spacecrafts has shown that many active late-type stars possess coronae. For such reason, the magnetic structure of stellar coronae has raised considerable interest and, by analogy with the Sun, it is generally assumed that stellar coronae are structured by magnetic fields having the shape of arcades. Most of those coronal magnetic field configurations assume translational symmetry and are based in planar source surfaces. However, as soon as either the length or the width of such source surfaces become non negligible as compared to the stellar radius, the application of the cylindrical geometry seems to be more appropriate. Then, one way of obtaining coronal magnetic configurations is to deal with source domains extended over a cylindrical surface. In this paper we generate potential coronal arcades based on cylindrical source surfaces with non negligible length or width compared to the stellar radius. The flux function, the magnetic field components, the shape of magnetic field lines and other characteristic magnitudes have been obtained and analyzed for both cases. Abstract

This paper presents a new integrated GIS modelling methodology for assessing groundwater contamination risk. Analytical and numerical tools within a GIS framework were used to define the raster maps of various factors interfering along the contaminant pathway from source to groundwater. In the proposed methodology, these factors were introduced into a unified GIS model for groundwater risk assessment that incorporates all the necessary information to improve the accuracy of the results. Fifteen factors were considered in order to estimate the spatial distribution of the groundwater contamination risk areas. Some of these factors, such as artificial drainage and seepage velocity, had not been used previously in GIS groundwater risk mapping. The study area, the island of Crete in Greece, was divided into five regions characterized by different degrees of groundwater risk ranging from very low to very high. A sensitivity analysis was performed and the developed methodology was validated for different contaminants that were detected in groundwater of the island of Crete.

In recent years, routine application of the stable isotope determination of chromium (Cr) in environmental and health protection research has led to the search for simpler chromite decomposition techniques. As the range of Cr isotope abundance ratios in nature is very narrow, conventional chromite decomposition techniques are no longer suitable, due to the relatively high risk of contamination during laboratory procedures. We have developed a protocol for the decomposition of chromites based on oxidation by bromic acid at room temperature. The procedure takes 15 d and requires two doses of bromic acid during the reaction period (day 1 and 8), due to the limited stability of the reagent. Chromium extracted by alkaline oxidative fusion and by bromic acid decomposition yielded statistically indistinguishable δ53Cr values, measured by multi‐collector inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry following addition of a 50Cr‐54Cr double‐spike.  相似文献

Abstract– On April 9, 2009, at 3:00 CEST, a very bright fireball appeared over Carinthia and the Karavanke Mountains. The meteoroid entered the atmosphere at a very steep angle and disintegrated into a large number of objects. Two main objects were seen as separate fireballs up to an altitude of approximately 5 km, and witnesses reported loud explosions. Three stones were found with a total weight of approximately 3.611 kg. The measured activity of short‐lived cosmogenic radionuclides clearly indicates that two specimens result from a very recent meteorite fall. All cosmogenic radionuclide concentrations suggest a rather small preatmospheric radius of <20 cm; a nominal cosmic‐ray exposure age based on 21Ne is approximately 4 Ma, but the noble gas and radionuclide results in combination indicate a complex irradiation. Jesenice is a highly recrystallized rock with only a few relic chondrules visible in hand specimen and thin section. The texture, the large grain size of plagioclase, and the homogeneous compositions of olivines and pyroxenes clearly indicate that Jesenice is a L6 chondrite. The bulk composition of Jesenice is very close to the published average element concentration for L ordinary chondrites. The chondrite is weakly shocked (S3) as indicated by the undulatory extinction in olivine and plagioclase and the presence of planar fractures in olivine. Being weakly shocked and with gas retention ages of >1.7 Ga (4He) and approximately 4.3 Ga (40Ar), Jesenice seems not to have been strongly affected by the catastrophic disruption of the L‐chondrite parent body approximately 500 Ma ago.  相似文献
