Marine plastic debris is a global issue, which highlights the need for internationally standardized methods of monitoring plastic pollution. The stomach contents of beached northern fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis) have proven a cost-effective biomonitor in Europe. However, recent information on northern fulmar plastic ingestion is lacking in the North Pacific. We quantified the stomach contents of 67 fulmars from beaches in the eastern North Pacific in 2009-2010 and found that 92.5% of fulmars had ingested an average of 36.8 pieces, or 0.385g of plastic. Plastic ingestion in these fulmars is among the highest recorded globally. Compared to earlier studies in the North Pacific, our findings indicate an increase in plastic ingestion over the past 40years. This study substantiates the use of northern fulmar as biomonitors of plastic pollution in the North Pacific and suggests that the high levels of plastic pollution in this region warrant further monitoring. 相似文献

The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of environmental contaminants on oxidative stress, genotoxic and histopathologic biomarkers in liver of mullet (Mugil cephalus) and sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) collected from a polluted coastal lagoon (Bizerte Lagoon) in comparison to a reference site (the Mediterranean Sea). Antioxidant enzyme activities were lower in fish from the polluted site compared with fish from the reference site, suggesting deficiency of the antioxidant system to compensate for oxidative stress. DNA damage was higher in both fish species from the contaminated site indicating genotoxic effects. The liver histopathological analysis revealed alterations in fish from Bizerte Lagoon. Hepatocytes from both fish species featured extensive lipid-type vacuolation and membrane disruption. Results suggest that the selected biomarkers in both fish species are useful for the assessment of pollution impacts in coastal environments influenced by multiple pollution sources. 相似文献

We present a careful analysis of the point-source detection limit of the AKARI All-Sky Survey in the WIDE-S 90-μm band near the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP). Timeline analysis is used to detect IRAS ( Infrared Astronomy Satellite ) sources and then a conversion factor is derived to transform the peak timeline signal to the interpolated 90-μm flux of a source. Combined with a robust noise measurement, the point-source flux detection limit at signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) > 5 for a single detector row is 1.1 ± 0.1 Jy which corresponds to a point-source detection limit of the survey of ∼0.4 Jy.

We calculate the continuous wavelet transform of the tsd and then search for significant wavelet coefficients considered as potential source detections. To discriminate real sources from spurious or moving objects, only sources with confirmation are selected. In our multiscale analysis, IRAS sources selected above 4σ can be identified as the only real sources at the Point Source Scales. We also investigate the correlation between the non- IRAS sources detected in timeline analysis and cirrus emission using wavelet transform and contour plots of wavelet power spectrum. It is shown that the non- IRAS sources are most likely to be caused by excessive noise over a large range of spatial scales rather than real extended structures such as cirrus clouds. 相似文献

Abstract— Sychevka is a relatively unweathered 65-kg iron meteorite that was found in Russia in 1988. The microstructure, mineralogy and bulk composition of Sychevka as revealed by optical microscopy, electron microprobe and instrumental neutron activation analysis indicate that this meteorite is a group-IIIAB medium octahedrite. Sychevka consists of (in vol%): kamacite (82.5), plessite (16), schreibersite (1.5), and rare grains of chromite and troilite. 相似文献

This work compares the quantities of labile metals removed from the Vire River (Normandy) sediments by a sequential extraction procedure to those liberated by single leaches (Mg(NO3)2, HCl and EDTA). Compared to the other extractions, Mg(NO3)2 underestimated the mobility results. The sequential procedure was the most aggressive, except for Ca and Pb. The hypothetic correlation between quantities of an element removed by single leaches and its fractionation in the sediment according to the sequential procedure was not satisfying. Archean terrains of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero comprise a greenstone belt association surrounded by granitoid–gneiss complexes, mainly composed of banded TTG gneisses whose igneous protoliths are older than 2900 Ma. This early continental crust was affected by three granitic magmatic episodes during the Neoarchean: ca. 2780 to 2760 Ma; 2720 to 2700 Ma; and 2600 Ma. Dating of felsic volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks defines a felsic magmatic event within the greenstone belt association around 2772 Ma, contemporaneous with emplacement of several of the granitic plutons and constrains a major magmatic and tectonic event in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero. Lead isotopic studies of lode–gold deposits indicate that the main mineralization episode occurred at about 2800 to 2700 Ma.Proterozoic evolution of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero comprises deposition of a continental-margin succession hosting thick, Lake Superior-type banded iron formations, at ca. 2500 to 2400 Ma, followed by deposition of syn-orogenic successions after 2120 Ma. The latter is related to the Transamazonian Orogeny. The western part of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero was also affected by the Brasiliano Orogeny (600 to 560 Ma). 相似文献

Layered ultramafic-gabbro bodies occur widely in the Archaean of northwest Scotland. They were metamorphosed at granulite or high amphibolite facies and were tectonically thinned and broken up during deformation. They comprise repeated ultramafic-gabbro layers, locally with Ni-poor sulphide-rich tops, each rhythmic unit showing decreasing MgO, Ni and normative anorthite with stratigraphic height. Major, trace and rare earth element data are presented for the range of rock types. In ultramafic rocks, MgO varies from 22 to 37 wt.%, Ni from 1000 to 2500 ppm and TiO2 from 0.08 to 0.40 wt.%, while the MgO content of the gabbros ranges from 14 to 6 wt.%. The REE patterns are flat to LREE enriched with no significant Eu anomalies. In ultramafic rocks REE are from 4 to 10 times chondrite, and in the gabbros LREE range from 8 to 30 times chondrite and HREE from 6 to 15 times chondrite. Study of incompatible elements (Ti, Zr, Y) which are relatively immobile during metamorphism shows that neither garnet nor hornblende were involved in fractionation. Trace element modelling shows it is improbable that the ultramafic rocks represent primary MgO-rich liquids even though their incompatible element contents are quite high. The chemical trends are interpreted in terms of olivine and pyroxene settling from a tholeiitic high-Mg magma with 15–20 wt.% MgO derived by 30–40% partial melting of an undepleted mantle.
