An essential task in the process of construction is the determination of compaction properties of soils. Many years of laboratory test experience strengthen our belief in the existence of predictive equations that govern the compaction characteristics of soils. An advanced mathematical model developed in this research in order to uncertain the governing equations. Through a comparative study among a Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) model, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model, Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and a Support Vector Machine (SVM) model, the best predicting model was determined. For this purpose, Six hundred and six (606) samples collected and split into a dataset used for training the models and another used for validation of the derived model. 8 neural networks with a varying number of hidden layers and a varying number of nodes in hidden layers were employed. In ELM 1 hidden layer with varying number of units were employed. It was found that the equations derived from the ELM models described the relationship with superiority over multiple regression, ANN and SVM models for Maximum Dry Density and MLR models described the relationship with superiority over ANN, ELM and SVM models for Optimum Moisture Content. 相似文献

A rich dinoflagellate cyst assemblage has been recovered from an outcrop of the Gurpi Formation, the hydrocarbon source rock in the South Iranian Basin. Key dinoflagellates recorded in the section studied provide a means of correlation with zonation schemes for Australasia and north-west Europe. These include Eucladinium kaikourense, Nelsoniella aceras, Odontochitina spp., Cannosphaeropsis utinensis, Palaeocystodinium denticulatum and Dinogymnium spp. The assemblage points to a late Santonian–late Maastrichtian age for the Gurpi Formation. Dinoflagellate and planktonic foraminiferal evidence indicates the presence of a hiatus spanning the uppermost Maastrichtian to at least the lowermost Danian at the base of a glaucony-rich layer separating the Gurpi Formation from the overlying Pabdeh Formation. Palynofacies and lithofacies profiles suggest that the sediments were deposited in an open, relatively deep marine outer ramp environment belonging to ramp facies 8 and 9. 相似文献

The present study investigates the use of natural pozzolana combined with lime for ground improvement applications. Laboratory
tests were undertaken to study the effect of natural pozzolana, lime or a combination of both on the physical and the mechanical
characteristics of cohesive soils. Natural pozzolana, lime and natural pozzolana-lime were added to two cohesive soils at
ranges of 0–20 and 0–8%, respectively. Consistency, compaction, undrained traxial shear and unconfined compressive strength
tests were performed on untreated and treated soil samples to assess the physical and mechanical characteristics of the soil.
Treated samples were cured for 1, 7, 28 and 90 days. The results show that the cohesive soils can be successfully stabilized

Gaza coastal aquifer (GCA) is the most precious natural source where it is the only source of water for different uses. Groundwater crisis in Gaza includes two major folds: shortage of water supply and contamination. The extraction of groundwater currently exceeds the aquifer recharge rate. As a result, the groundwater level is falling continuously leading severely deterioration of GCA. The main objective of this study is to analyze and evaluate the current and proposed water resources management plans and their effect on the water level of GCA. In this respect, the available quantities of rainfall that could be harvested and infiltrated from different types of land-use based on existing and planned situations are studied using GIS tool and numerical models for GCA using V-MODFLOW environment for simulating four scenarios: (i) existing management practice (no action scenario), (ii) proposed Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) stormwater infiltration plan, (iii) proposed Gaza Emergency Technical Assistance Program (GETAP) interventions, and (iv) combination between second and third scenarios. The management scenarios were tested with the calibrated flow model for the target period between 2016 and 2040. The simulation results of existing management practice scenario show that there are several depression zones in Gaza Strip; in southern part from ??18 to ??24 m MSL in 2020 and 2040, in the northern part from ??7 to ??12 m MSL in 2020 and 2040, and in the middle regions experienced a small decline in groundwater level. The simulation results of proposed PWA scenario indicate similar depression zones as per first scenario but with good enhancement of water level, ??17 to ??18 m MSL in the southern part and ??3 to ??6 m MSL in the northern part in 2020 and 2040, respectively. The simulation results of GETAP intervention scenario show a positive impact on groundwater level. The results of fourth scenario show good enhancement of water level, in which the water level in the northern part ranges from +?3 to +?6 m MSL in 2020 and 2040, while in the south part ranges from ??15 to +?4 MSL in 2020 and 2040. 相似文献

The concentrations of fluorine in groundwater of North Jordan range from 0.009 to 0.055 mg/l. Other chemical parameters, e.g. pH, EC, TDS, Cl, TH, HCO3, PO4, SO4, NO3, NH4, K, Ca, Mg, and NO3 have been studied and showed higher concentrations in HCO3− and NO3− of 307 and 51 mg/l, respectively. Thermodynamic considerations show that almost all the analyzed samples are undersaturated with respect to calcite and fluorite. This undersaturation is probably due to their low availability in the locations. Fluoride concentration shows a positive relation to pH and HCO3, whereas Cl, Mg, Ca, and Na initially increase and then decrease with increasing fluoride in the water. Saturation indexes of fluorite and calcite are estimated. The chemistry of the groundwater is controlled by the fluorite and calcite solubility. The topography of the area has exerted control on the aerial extent of fluoride concentration. 相似文献

Design rainfall intensity–frequency–duration data are a basic input to many water-related development projects. To derive design rainfalls, one needs long period of recorded rainfall data. Although daily rainfall data are generally widely available, short-duration rainfall data are scarce. For many urban applications, design rainfalls for much shorter durations are needed, which cannot be obtained directly from daily read rainfall data. This paper presents a simple approach that can be adopted to derive design rainfalls of short durations using daily rainfall data and other physio-climatic characteristics using a novel ‘index frequency combined with parameter regression technique’. This uses L moments to reduce the impacts of sampling variability in the analysis. Furthermore, this adopts generalised least squares regression to account for the inter-station correlation of the rainfall data in the analysis. The proposed method is applied to a pilot data set consisting of 203 rainfall stations across Australia. An independent Monte Carlo cross-validation test shows that the proposed method is capable of generating consistent and accurate design rainfall estimates from 6-min to 12-h duration. The developed technique can be adapted to other countries where there is a scarcity of short-duration rainfall data, but daily rainfall data are abundant. 相似文献

In this paper, the effects of shear velocity on the shearing behavior of artificial joints have been studied at different normal stress levels. Here, artificial joints with planar and rough surfaces were prepared with the plaster (simulating soft rock joints) and concrete (medium-hard rock joints) materials. The rough joints had triangular shaped asperities with 10° and 20° inclination angles. Direct shear tests were performed on these joints under various shear velocities in the range of 0.3–30 mm/min. The planar plaster–plaster and planer concrete–concrete joints were sheared at three levels of normal stress under constant normal load boundary condition. Also, the rough plaster–plaster and concrete–concrete joints were sheared at one level of normal stress under constant normal stiffness boundary condition. The results of the shear tests show that the shearing parameters of joints, such as shear strength, shear stiffness and friction angle, are related to the shear velocity. Shear strength of planar and rough plaster–plaster joints were decreased when the shear velocity was increased. Shear strength of concrete joints, except for rough joints with 10° inclination, increased with increasing shear velocity. Regardless of the normal stress level, shear stiffness of both planar plaster–plaster and concrete–concrete joints were decreased when the shear velocity was increased. 相似文献
