The equations of magnetohydrodynamic equilibria for a plasma in a gravitational field are investigated analytically. For equilibria with one ignorable spatial coordinate, the equations reduce to a single nonlinear elliptic equation for the magnetic potential , known as the Grad–Shafranov equation. Specifying the arbitrary functions in the latter equation, one gets a nonlinear elliptic equation. Analytical solutions of the elliptic equation are obtained for the case of a nonlinear isothermal atmosphere in a uniform gravitational field. The solutions are obtained by using the Painlevé analysis, and are adequate for describing parallel filaments of diffuse, magnetized plasma suspended horizontally in equilibrium in a uniform gravitational field. 相似文献

The upper member of the Jafnayn Formation in Wadi Rusayl and Al Khoud, Seeb Area in north Oman contains Nemkovella stockari Less & Özcan, 2007, an Early Eocene orthophragminid recorded here for the first time from the Arabian Peninsula. N. stockari, the only orthophragminid identified in Jafnayn Formation, is quite distinct from any other species from Tethys in having spiral and orbitoidiform chambers around the isolepidine embryon developed before the onset of annular chambers. The Oman specimens exhibit equal-sized principal auxiliary chambers and symmetrical spirals and are assigned to N. stockari bejaensis Özcan, Boukhalfa & Scheibner, 2014, an advanced form of the N. stockari lineage. The associated alveolinids, revised in this study, rotaliids and other age-diagnostic foraminiferal taxa in the transgressive basal part of the upper member have enabled us to revise the age as middle Ilerdian (Early Eocene), assignable to SBZ 7/8 and 8; OZ 3/4. Integrating a new record of this species from Arabian Plate margin in Belen, S Turkey, and previous records from north Africa, N. stockari appears to be a diagnostic marker for the Early Eocene along the southern peri-Tethys platforms, facilitating the Tethyan correlation by orthophragminids. The palaeobiogeographic distribution of N. stockari is discussed. 相似文献

Tunisian Chott’s region is one of the most productive artesian basins in Tunisia. It is located in the southwestern part of
the country, and its groundwater resources are developed for water supply and irrigation. The chemical composition of the
water is strongly influenced by the interaction with the basinal sediments and by hydrologic characteristics such as the flow
pattern and time of residence. The system is composed of an upper unconfined “Plio-Quaternary” aquifer with a varying thickness
of 20–200 m, an intermediate confined/unconfined “Complex Terminal” aquifer about 100 m in thickness and a deeper “Continental
Intercalaire” aquifer about 150 m in thickness separated by thick clay and marl layers. The dissolution of evaporites and
carbonates explains part of the contained Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, SO42− and Cl-, but other processes, such carbonate precipitation, also contributes to the water composition. The stable isotope composition
of waters establishes that the deep groundwater (depleted as compared to present corresponding local rainfall) is ancient
water recharged probably during the late Pleistocene and the early Holocene periods. The relatively recent water in the Plio-Quaternary
aquifer is composed of mixed waters resulting presumably from upward leakage from the deeper groundwater. 相似文献

Because groundwater recharge in dry regions is generally low, arid and semiarid environments have been considered well-suited for long-term isolation of hazardous materials (e.g., radioactive waste). In these dry regions, water lost (transpired) by plants and evaporated from the soil surface, collectively termed evapotranspiration (ET), is usually the primary discharge component in the water balance. Therefore, vegetation can potentially affect groundwater flow and contaminant transport at waste disposal sites. We studied vegetation health and ET dynamics at a Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act (UMTRCA) disposal site in Shiprock, New Mexico, where a floodplain alluvial aquifer was contaminated by mill effluent. Vegetation on the floodplain was predominantly deep-rooted, non-native tamarisk shrubs (Tamarix sp.). After the introduction of the tamarisk beetle (Diorhabda sp.) as a biocontrol agent, the health of the invasive tamarisk on the Shiprock floodplain declined. We used Landsat normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data to measure greenness and a remote sensing algorithm to estimate landscape-scale ET along the floodplain of the UMTRCA site in Shiprock prior to (2000–2009) and after (2010–2018) beetle establishment. Using groundwater level data collected from 2011 to 2014, we also assessed the role of ET in explaining seasonal variations in depth to water of the floodplain. Growing season scaled NDVI decreased 30% (p < .001), while ET decreased 26% from the pre- to post-beetle period and seasonal ET estimates were significantly correlated with groundwater levels from 2011 to 2014 (r2 = .71; p = .009). Tamarisk greenness (a proxy for health) was significantly affected by Diorhabda but has partially recovered since 2012. Despite this, increased ET demand in the summer/fall period might reduce contaminant transport to the San Juan River during this period. 相似文献

An analysis procedure for seismic wave propagation effects on straight continuous buried pipelines is proposed. It shown that ground strain due to surface waves can be substantially larger than that due to body waves. An elastic model a buried pipeline surrounded by equivalent soil springs indicates that frictional slip between the pipeline and the surrounding soil springs is likely for high ground strains. A method for estimating ground strain due to surface waves, based on data from the 1971 San Fernando earthquake, reviewed. An analysis procedure, which utilizes frictional forces near the soil-pipeline interface, is proposed for surfae wave effects on straight buried continuous pipelines. This paper presents the first attempt to investigate the potential of Tunisian palygorskite-rich clay (Pal-clay) on the effectiveness of a textile dye “Direct orange 34” (DO34) removal. Important parameters which affect adsorption, such as initial solution pH, contact time, adsorbent mass, initial dye concentration, and temperature, were investigated. The raw Pal-clay was characterized using X-ray diffractometer (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), cation exchange capacity (CEC), specific surface area (SSA) analysis, and point of zero charge (PZC) determination. The results showed that the Pal-clay has a high selectivity for DO34 and had maximum removal efficiency reaching up to about 91 %. The highest adsorption capacity was obtained at 25 °C and pH of 2. The dye uptake process fitted well to the pseudo-second-order kinetic expression and was best described by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Intra-particle diffusion studies showed that the adsorption mechanism was not exclusively controlled by the diffusion step and was more likely to be governed by external mass transfer. Thermodynamic parameters such as change in free energy (ΔG°), enthalpy (ΔH°), and entropy (ΔS°) were also calculated. The parameters revealed that the adsorption of dye by the raw clay is spontaneous and exothermic. The results indicate that the Pal-clay has a moderate adsorption capacity towards anionic dye. 相似文献

Compacted soil–bentonite liners, consisting of a sandy soil mixed with bentonite as backfill, are used extensively as engineered barriers for contaminant containment. This paper studies the valorization of local materials containing calcareous sand, tuff obtained from Laghouat region (in the South Algeria), to associate with bentonite in order to improve their hydraulic characteristics for use as landfill liner material. Firstly, a geotechnical characterization of mixtures chooses from a fixed percentage to 10% bentonite and different percentages of calcareous sand and tuff so that they are complementary to 90% by not 10%. Thereafter, the determination of saturated hydraulic conductivity at falling-head permeability (Kv) and oedometer (Kid, indirect Measure) tests of all compacted mixtures at Optimum Normal Proctor have been carried out using both permeates by tap water and a landfill leachate in order to simulate long-term conditions. The results showed that the saturated hydraulic conductivity of tap water is relatively lower than the one saturated by leachate in the falling-head test, unlike the oedometer test. The B10CS20T70 mixture has satisfied the hydraulic conductivity criterion of bottom barriers (i.e. water permeated: kv20° = 1.97 × 10?9 and kid from 7 × 10?9 to 1.83 × 10?10 < 10?9m/s; leachate permeated: kv20° = 2.91 × 10?9 and kid from 7 × 10?9 at 1.44 × 10?10 < 10?9 m/s). Finally, a comparison between direct measurements of the saturated hydraulic conductivity by triaxial (Kd) test and oedometer test (Kid) in the range of effective stress applied 100–800 kPa led to propose equations of correlations between these two methods. In conclusion, adopted formulation B10CS20T70 perfectly meets the regulatory requirements in force and constitutes an economic product based on available local materials for engineers barriers. 相似文献

As in many other semi-arid regions, the Plio-quaternary aquifer of the eastern coast of Cap Bon peninsula (NE Tunisia) shows
a parallel increase in overexploitation and mineralization of groundwater resources and so the water quality is deteriorating.
Different methods using geochemistry (ions Na+, Cl−, Ca2+, Mg2+, Br−) and stable isotopes (18O, 2H) are compared with the hydrodynamic information for identifying the main processes involved in the increase of salinization.
Along the coast, intrusion of seawater resulting from groundwater overexploitation is identified, but is not the only cause
of qualitative degradation: the development of irrigation that induces soil leaching and transfer of fertilizers to groundwater
over the whole aquifer extent is another major reason for the increase in salinization. A total of 48 groundwater wells were

In the well-log data processing, the principal advantage of the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) method is the measurement of fluid volume and pore size distribution without resorting to parameters such as rock resistivity. Preliminary processing of the well-log data allowed first to have the petrophysical parameters and then to evaluate the performances of the transverse relaxation time T 2 NMR. Petrophysical parameters such as the porosity of the formation as well as the effective permeability can be estimated without having recourse the fluid type. The well-log data of five wells were completed during the construction of intelligent models in the Saharan oil field Oued Mya Basin in order to assess the reliability of the developed models. Data processing of NMR combined with conventional well data was performed by artificial intelligence. First, the support vector regression method was applied to a sandy clay reservoir with a model based on the prediction of porosity and permeability. NMR parameters estimated using intelligent systems, i.e., fuzzy logic (FL) model, back propagation neural network (BP-NN), and support vector machine, with conventional well-log data are combined with those of NMR, resulting in a good estimation of porosity and permeability. The results obtained during the processing are then compared to the FL and NN regression models performed by the regression method during the validation stage. They show that the correlation coefficients R 2 estimated vary between 0.959 and 0.964, corresponding to the root mean square error values of 0.20 and 0.15. 相似文献

The need for renewable environmentally friendly energy resources is growing every day. Biodiesel is one of the most promising alternatives to the conventional non-renewable energy resources. Heterogeneous catalysts proved a high efficiency in the transesterification of oils to produce biodiesel. In this research, activated carbon was tested as a heterogeneous catalyst in the transesterification of two non-edible oils (waste cooking oil and Jatropha oil) with methanol to produce biodiesel. Activated carbon was characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and Fourier transformed infrared. The effect of different operating parameters, namely operation time (30, 60, 120 and 180 min), alcohol-to-oil molar ratio (4:1, 6:1, 8:1 and 10:1), catalyst loading [0.5, 1, 2, 3 and 5% (w/w)] and rotational speed (100, 200, 300 and 400 rpm), was investigated. Results showed that increasing the operational time, the alcohol-to-oil molar ratio and the catalyst loading increases the conversion to biodiesel but only to some extent; increasing the stirring rate was found to be beneficial to the process. The optimum conditions were found to be 2 h of heating, 6:1 alcohol-to-oil ratio, 1 wt% catalyst loading and 400 rpm stirring. Under optimum conditions, the conversion to biodiesel reached 93.95 and 93.27% for the waste cooking oil and the Jatropha oil, respectively. The properties of the obtained biodiesel (density, viscosity, flash point, pour point and cloud point) were measured giving promising results. 相似文献
