Significant postseismic deformation of the 2008 M W 7.9 Wenchuan earthquake has been observed from GPS data of the first 14 days after the earthquake. A sediment core from Hulun Lake, Inner Mongolia was analyzed for species assemblages and shell chemistry of ostracodes to investigate changes in the hydrology and climate of the East Asian summer monsoon margin during the Holocene. Darwinula stevensoni was abundant, Ilyocypris spp. scarce, littoral ostracodes absent and Mg/Ca, Sr/Ca and δ18O were low 11,100 to 8300 yr ago, indicating high lake levels and cool/fresh waters. Darwinula stevensoni declined largely, Ilyocypris spp. throve, littoral ostracodes were rare and chemical indicators remained in low values 8300 to 6200 yr ago, suggesting that the lake continued high stands but water became warm. The lake then contracted and water became cool/brackish 6200 to 4300 yr ago. Littoral ostracodes flourished 4300 to 3350 yr ago, marking the lowest lake levels of the entire Holocene. The lake level recovered and water salinity decreased 3350 to 1900 yr ago. From 1900 to 500 yr ago, the lake maintained the preceding status albeit lowered stands and increased salinities 1100 to 800 yr ago. During the recent 500 yr, the lake expanded and water salinity decreased. The data imply that the East Asian summer monsoon did not intensify until 8300 yr ago and weakened dramatically 4300 to 3350 yr ago.  相似文献

This work reports the historical trends and sources of aliphatic hydrocarbons (AHs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in two 210Pb dated sediment cores extracted from the central mud areas of Bohai Sea (Bohai). The TOC/TN ratio of the bulk organic matter (OM) and the composition of the n-alkanes suggest that the sedimentary organic matter was of mixed marine and terrigenous sources. The coarser sediment grain size and decreasing C/N ratios since ∼1976 could be attributed to the relocation of the Yellow River mouth causing a decreased influence of Yellow River derived sediments and associated OM into the central Bohai. The concentration of total 16 PAHs in the two cores ranged from 34.2-202 ng/g (mean, 91.5) for BC1, and from 53.3-186 ng/g (mean, 103) for BC2, with a high abundance of 2-3 ring PAHs. Perylene in the two cores mainly originated from terrigenous sources via riverine discharge and thus could be potentially related to changes in the sediment load from the Yellow River into the Bohai over time. Petroleum inputs could be revealed by ratios of methylphenanthrenes to phenanthrene (MP/P) and the patterns of more stable geochemical biomarkers (hopanes and steranes) along the two cores, in addition to the presence of unresolved complex mixtures (UCM) in the surface layers. Source diagnostic ratios of PAHs indicated a pyrogenic origin from biomass and coal combustion with a minor petroleum contribution. Downcore trends of compositional PAHs profiles were in agreement with the socio-economic development in China in the past decades. This temporal variation of sedimentary PAHs can also reflect a different evolution stage of energy structure in China as compared with those of the western developed countries.  相似文献

Quantitative morphologic analysis of shallowly buried, dendritic channel systems in the continental shelf off the abandoned Huanghe River (Yellow River) mouth has been made based on interpretation of high resolution seismic profiles, with the attempt to estimate the paleo-hydrologic parameters when the incised-channels formed, then assess the paleoenvironment. The results indicate that the buried channel systems were formed about 44 cal ka BP when the shelf was subaerially exposed and subsequently drowned and filled during the Holocene transgression with the sea level rise continuously. The study area has experienced the processes from fluvial and estuarine to fully marine.  相似文献
