The presence of flux tubes, visible as Network Bright Points (NBP) at the surface of the Sun outside active regions, disturbs the granular pattern in a similar way as it can be observed in laboratory convection experiments. Around an NBP, granules are smaller, more numerous than around a normal intergranular space without NBP; they are elongated and pointing towards it. Such a perturbation is visible several minutes before the appearance of the NBP, indicating that the magnetic flux, although not yet visible as a bright point, is already interacting with the convection pattern. The perturbation reaches its maximum within one minute after the NBP appearance; and the granular pattern returns to normal just after the NBP disappearance. 相似文献

We have studied lunar impact spherules from the Apollo 12 and Apollo 14 landing sites, examining the isotopic composition of argon released by stepwise heating. Elsewhere, we reported the formation ages of these spherules, determined by the 40Ar/39Ar isochron method. Here, we discuss solar and cosmogenic argon from the same spherules, separating these two components by correlating their partial releases with the releases of calcium-derived 37Ar on a “cosmochron” diagram. We use the abundances of cosmogenic argon to derive a cosmic ray exposure age for each spherule, and demonstrate that single scoops of lunar soil contain spherules which have experienced very different histories of exposure and burial. The solar argon is seen to be separated into isotopically lighter and heavier fractions, which presumably were implanted to different depths in the spherules. The abundance of the isotopically heavy solar argon is too great to explain as a minor constituent of the solar particle flux, such as the suprathermal tail of the solar wind. The fact that the spherules have been individually dated allows us to look for possible variations in the solar wind as a function of time, over the history of the Solar System. However, the isotopic composition and fluence of solar argon preserved in the lunar spherules appear to be independent of formation age. We believe that most of the spherules are saturated with solar argon, having reached a condition in which implantation by the solar wind is offset by losses from solar-wind sputtering and diffusion. 相似文献

Combined efforts of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Aerospace Corporation have provided a front side lunar gravity field using the Doppler tracking data from the United States Lunar Orbiters IV and V. Data reduction was accomplished with a model which included all dynamical motion due to gravitational perturbations, as well as all tracking geometries. Simultaneous measurements of NO and NO2 in the stratosphere leading to an NOx determination have been performed by means of i.r. absorption spectrometry using the Sun as a source in the 5·2 μm band of NO and in the 6·2 μm band of NO2. The evolution of seasonal cycle and interannual rainfall, the number of rainy days and daily rainfall types, dry spells frequency of occurrence, onset/cessation/length of rainy season, sowing dates, and the duration of the cropping period, are investigated at local (individual sites) and sub-regional scales (four different rainfall zones) using daily records of station data (83 sites) over Senegal. In the limits of a case study, these analyses complement and update previous studies conducted in the extreme Western Sahel (11?C16° N and 20° W?C10° E). The results unveil noticeable evolution of some of these rain-based factors in the recent periods as compared to the previous dry years. In the regions recording less than 800?mm/year (Sudan and Sahel sub-regions), the positive and statistically significant trends of rainfall amount are associated with new features of increasing frequency of short dry spell category, increasing number of some classes of extreme daily rainfall amounts and shifts in the peak number of rainy days. At sub-regional scales, the starting years (or change points) the magnitude and the signs of the new trends are unevenly distributed in the period post-1990. Earlier and higher amplitude changes are found at local scales and not less than one third of the sites in each sub-regional network are significantly affected. The extreme Southern sub-region exhibits no significant changes. Statistically significant trends are not observed on daily rain records ??10?mm, onset/cessation dates, successful sowing dates, rainy season length, cropping period, medium and extreme dry spell categories. Rather, some of these factors such as the successful sowing date and the cropping season length exhibit significant variability. The onset (cessation) dates of the rainy season are followed (preceded) by extreme dry spell episodes. In the perspectives of climate impact assessments on the local agriculture a sub-regional periodic synopsis of the major rain-based factors of interest to agricultural applications are provided at the end the paper. Savonoski Crater, a small basin about 1700 feet in diameter, is located on a ridge of gently-dipping Jurassic sandstone in Katmai National Monument, southwestern Alaska. Reconnaisance geological, geophysical, and petrographic studies suggest that it was formed either by volcanic processes or meteorite impact prior to the end of the latest glaciation in the region. Surface ejecta, if originally present, apparently have been removed by glaciation. No distinctive shock-metamorphic effects were observed in the few rock specimens collected. Final determination of the crater's origin will require more extensive field studies or drilling in the center of the crater. 相似文献

A new method of total ozone retrieval from i.r. satellite data(NOAA6) is presented. It uses ozone transmittance as a predictor of total ozone. Ozone transmittance at 9.6 μm(TR) is deduced from radiance at 9.6 μm(R9), surface temperature (TS) measured at 11 μm, and ozone mean temperature (TE) estimated from several channels (among them 9.6 μm) by the radiative transfer equation : R9 = B(TS) × TR + (1?TR) × B(TE) where B is the Planck function.A statistical analysis of the retrieved ozone field and a comparison with ground based measurements show that the S.E. is less than 5% for the considered data set. 相似文献

Loading of subsurface salt during accumulation of fluvial strata can result in halokinesis and the growth of salt pillows, walls and diapirs. Such movement may eventually result in the formation of salt‐walled mini‐basins, whose style of architectural infill may be used to infer both the relative rates of salt‐wall growth and sedimentation and the nature of the fluvial‐system response to salt movement. The Salt Anticline Region of the Paradox Basin of SE Utah comprises a series of elongate salt‐walled mini‐basins, arranged in a NW‐trending array. The bulk of salt movement occurred during deposition of the Permian Cutler Group, a wedge of predominantly quartzo‐feldspathic clastic strata comprising sediment derived from the Uncompahgre Uplift to the NE. The sedimentary architecture of selected mini‐basin fills has been determined at high resolution through outcrop study. Mini‐basin centres are characterized by multi‐storey fluvial channel elements arranged into stacked channel complexes, with only limited preservation of overbank elements. At mini‐basin margins, thick successions of fluvial overbank and sheet‐like elements dominate in rim‐syncline depocentres adjacent to salt walls; many such accumulations are unconformably overlain by single‐storey fluvial channel elements that accumulated during episodes of salt‐wall breaching. The absence of gypsum clasts suggests that sediment influx was high, preventing syn‐sedimentary surface exposure of salt. Instead, fluvial breaching of salt‐generated topography reworked previously deposited sediments of the Cutler Group atop growing salt walls. Palaeocurrent data indicate that fluvial palaeoflow to the SW early in the history of basin infill was subsequently diverted to the W and ultimately to the NW as the salt walls grew to form topographic barriers. Late‐stage retreat of the Cutler fluvial system coincided with construction and accumulation of an aeolian system, recording a period of heightened climatic aridity. Aeolian sediments are preserved in the lees of some salt walls, demonstrating that halokinesis played a complex role in the differential trapping of sediment. 相似文献
