A second-order modelling technique is used to investigate the influence of turbulence on chemical reactions. The covariance and variance equations for the NO-O3-NO2 system are developed as a function of the ratio of the timescale of turbulence (

/Ch). Special attention is given to the calculation of the covariance between NO and O3 normalized by the product of their means, the so-called intensity of segregation (I

). This parameter quantifies the state of mixing of two chemical species.The intensity of segregation is calculated as a function of the flux of NO and the first Damköhler number. The model results presented illustrate the importance of taking the effect of turbulence on chemical reactions into account for higher values of the NO flux, for values of the ratio O3/NO larger than 12.5 and for values of the ratio

Saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, K s , data collected by ponding infiltrometer methods and usual experimental procedures could be unusable for interpreting field hydrological processes and particularly rainfall infiltration. The K s values determined by an infiltrometer experiment carried out by applying water at a relatively large distance from the soil surface could however be more appropriate to explain surface runoff generation phenomena during intense rainfall events. In this study, a link between rainfall simulation and ponding infiltrometer experiments was established for a sandy‐loam soil. The height of water pouring for the infiltrometer run was chosen, establishing a similarity between the gravitational potential energy of the applied water, E p , and the rainfall kinetic energy, E k . To test the soundness of this procedure, the soil was sampled with the Beerkan estimation of soil transfer parameters procedure of soil hydraulic characterization and two heights of water pouring (0.03 m, i.e., usual procedure, and 0.34 m, yielding E p = E k ). Then, a comparison between experimental steady‐state infiltration rates, i sR , measured with rainfall simulation experiments determining runoff production and K s values for the two water pouring heights was carried out in order to discriminate between theoretically possible (i sR ≥ K s ) and impossible (i sR < K s ) situations. Physically possible K s values were only obtained by applying water at a relatively large distance from the soil surface, because i sR was equal to 20.0 mm h?1 and K s values were 146.2–163.9 and 15.2–18.7 mm h?1 for a height of water pouring of 0.03 and 0.34 m, respectively. This result suggested the consistency between Beerkan runs with a high height of water pouring and rainfall simulator experiments. Soil compaction and mechanical aggregate breakdown were the most plausible physical mechanisms determining reduction of K s with height. This study demonstrated that the height from which water is poured onto the soil surface is a key parameter in infiltrometer experiments and can be adapted to mimic the effect of high intensity rain on soil hydraulic properties. 相似文献

Summary Metamorphic rocks in the pre-Alpine basement of the Getic-Supragetic units (Median Dacides of the Carpathian belt) are spatially related to different lithotectonic units, some of which contain high-pressure relicts reflecting an early stage of oceanic and continental subduction, locally synchronous with mylonitic shear zones. Kyaniteamphibole ± quartz-bearing eclogites preserve a complete metamorphic clockwise loop; the estimated peak conditions within the outer part of the Cumpana unit were at least 20 kb at 780–860 °C. Pre-eclogite-stage magmatic phases occur in some units with true equilibrated eclogites. Clinopyroxene-plagioclase inclusions in garnet of a garnet-clinopyroxene assemblage within a metagabbro indicate a temperature around 760–790 °C at a maximum pressure of about 19 kb. The units finally evolved together during stages of exhumation under metamorphic conditions ranging from the Barrovian-type (minimum age of 330 Ma) to the high-temperature/low-pressure type. The absolute age of the high-pressure stage and the eclogite protoliths is unknown. In comparison with other collision belts, it is likely that the gneiss units of the Median Dacides underwent a complete cycle of underthrusting and exhumation similar to other segments of the European Variscides, and that the formation of the eclogite occurred during the early stages of subduction.

Résumé Les roches métamorphiques du socle pré-alpin des domaines Gétiques et Supragétiques (Dacides médianes de la chaîne des Carpathes) appartiennent à des unités lithotectoniques différentes dont certaines contiennent des reliques de métamorphisme haute pression reflétant un stade précoce de subduction continentale et océanique, localement synchrone de zones de cisaillement mylonitiques. Des éclogites é disthène-amphibole ± quartz permettent de reconstituer un trajet PT horaire complet. Les conditions paroxysmales sont estimées au sein de l'unité de Cumpana é plus de 20 kb pour 780–860 °C. Des phases magmatiques pré-éclogitiques coexistent avec des phases de haute pression dans les éclogites de certaines unités et des inclusions de clinopyroxene-plagioclase dans les grenats d'un métagabbro indiquent une température de 760–790 °C pour une pression maximale de 19 kb. L'ensemble des unités évolue finalement durant les stades d'exhumation sous les mêmes conditions de métamorphisme barrovien (âge minimum de 330 Ma) puis de haute température-basse pression. L'âge du stade de haute pression et des protholithes reste inconnu. En comparaison avec d'autres chaînes de collision, il est vraisemblable que les Dacides médianes ont subi un cycle d'enfouissement et d'exhumation similaire é celui décrit dans d'autres segments de la chaîne varisque européenne, la formation des éclogites étant attribuée aux premiers stades de la subduction.

The minor planet 164 Eva passed through opposition on December 1, 1975 with a magnitude Bopp = 11.3 mag. Photoelectric observations at the Observatory of Torino, Italy, were carried out in two nights on Oct. 27/28 and Nov. 11, each with a run of about 3 hr. Two further successful photoelectric observations were carried out at the OHP, France, each with a run of about 6 hr. From all observed parts of the lightcurve a resulting synodic period of rotation of about 27.3 hr can be deduced, with a range of the total amplitude of at least Δm = 0.07 mag. With this period of 27.3 hr the minor planet 164 Eva is one more long period object, falling now between 654 Zelinda (H. J. Schober, 1975, Astron. Astrophys.44, 85–89) and 139 Juewa (J. Goguen et al., 1976, Icarus29, 137–142), at the high end in the histogram of the distribution of minor planet rotation periods. 相似文献

Several flatfish species, including southern flounder (Paralichthys lethostigma) recruit to estuaries during early life. Therefore, evaluation of estuarine sites and habitats that serve as nurseries is critical to conservation and management. The present study used density data in conjunction with biochemical condition and growth measurements to evaluate settlement sites used by southern flounder in the Galveston Bay Estuary (GBE). In 2005, beam-trawl collections were made in three major sections of the GBE (East Bay, Galveston Bay, West Bay). Three sites were sampled in each bay. Within each sampling site, replicate collections were taken from three habitats: 1) marsh edge (< 1 m depth), 2) intermediate zone (10–20 m from marsh interface; 1 m depth), and 3) bay zone (typically > 100 m from marsh interface; depth > 1 m). Average size of southern flounder collected was 12–19 mm standard length, and peak densities occurred in January and February. Catch data indicated that densities of southern flounder were significantly greater in East Bay (2.75 per 100 m2) than in Galveston Bay (0.91 per 100 m2) or in West Bay (0.45 per 100 m2). Densities were statistically similar among habitats. Otolith-based estimates of age indicated that the majority of southern flounder collected were 35–45 days old and derived from early December to early January hatch-dates. Growth rates were similar among bays and among habitats, with the average growth rate being 0.40 mm day− 1 (range: 0.21–0.76 mm day− 1). RNA:DNA was above the established baseline value for nutritional stress, indicating that newly settled southern flounder in the GBE were in relatively high condition. Habitat-specific differences in RNA:DNA ratios were not observed; however, ratios were significantly lower in West Bay (average 8.0) than in East Bay (average 9.5) or in Galveston Bay (average 9.8), suggesting the condition of new recruits may vary spatially within the GBE. Findings from the current study suggest density and condition of newly settled southern flounder vary at the bay scale, suggesting that parts of GBE do not function equally as nurseries. 相似文献

The Aegean island of Thera (Santorini) was covered by tephra from its cataclysmic Late Bronze Age (ca. 3600 yr B.P.) eruption. Vertical exposures of the eruptive sequence show secondary, nonvolcanic, circular (in cross section) features composed of stratified sediment. Many are inaccessible from the floors of modern quarries and appear to be caves filled with younger sediment, but show no connection to the land surface. A filled cave was found in the wall of a modern gully outside the modern quarries, and a filled cave was found in a terrace scarp, well above the modern gully. Natural (and probably rapid) incision by gullies into the thick tephra deposit left many locations with lateral access to tephra. Inhabitants from post‐Minoan to recent times excavated tephra for materials and buildings, and caves were subsequently filled by sporadic (possibly seasonal) flood events that deposited sediment. These gullies may have provided access for modern tephra removal that isolated the filled caves high on the modern quarry walls. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献
