Sorption of cobalt (CoII) ions from aqueous solution by waste calcite, kaolinite and zeolite was investigated in a series of batch experiments. The sorption capacity of the sorbents was a function of the initial solution pH, contact time and sorbent/sorbate ratio. For these three sorbents, the kinetic and isotherm experimental data were well fitted to pseudo-second-order and Langmuir equations, respectively. The maximum sorption capacity (mg g?1) of Co(II) was 4.67, 3.76 and 2.23 for waste calcite, zeolite and kaolinite, respectively. Desorption experiments showed that the desorption capacities were in the order of zeolite?>?kaolinite?>?waste calcite. The equilibrium and kinetic results indicated that waste calcite had the best performance for the removal of Co(II) compared to zeolite and kaolinite. To simulate and predict Co(II) sorption mechanisms, the surface complexation and cation exchange models in PHREEQC program were used. The model results suggested that the main mechanisms of Co(II) sorption on waste calcite and zeolite were surface complexation and cation exchange, respectively. In the case of kaolinite, the model predicted that both mechanisms were involved in the sorption of Co(II), but the surface complexation was the predominant mechanism.

The bifurcations of orbit-averaged dynamics are studied in a class of razor-thin discs with central black holes. The model used here consists of a perturbed harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian augmented with a GM r potential. Through a sequence of conformal and canonical transformations, we reduce the phase-space flows of the system to a set of non-linear differential equations on a sphere. Based on the critical points of the averaged system, we classify orbit families and reveal the existence of six types of periodic motions: circular , long - and short-axis elliptical , long - and short-axis radial and inclined radial orbits. Long-axis elliptical orbits and their surrounding tubes have significant features: whilst they keep stars away from the centre, they elongate in the same direction as the density profile. These properties are helpful in the construction of self-consistent equilibria.  相似文献

Sodium (Na+) in poor quality irrigation water participate in ion-exchange processes results in the displacement of base cations into solution and a raised concentration in groundwater. Knowledge of the rate of decrease of nutrients from soils resulting from poor water quality application is essential for long-term planning of crop production while minimizing the impact on groundwater quality. In this study, we examined the effect of sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) of irrigation water on nutrients leaching and groundwater quality in columns of sandy soil. Three types of irrigation waters at three NaCl–CaCl2 solutions with the following levels of SAR (5, 15, and 30) were synthesized in laboratory. With the application of solutions, exchange occurred between solution Na+ and exchangeable cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+), resulting in the displacement of these cations and anions into solution. Increasing the level of SAR from 5 to 15 and 30 resulted in increase in the average exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) of the soil from 10.4 to 20.3, and 32.5, respectively. Adverse effect of high Na+ concentration in the solutions on raising ESP was less pronounced in solution having low SAR. Leaching of Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, and P from soil with the application of solutions represents a significant loss of valuable nutrients. This sandy soil showed the high risk for nutrients transfer into groundwater in concentrations exceeding the groundwater quality standard. Irrigation with poor quality water, which is generally more sodic and saline than regional groundwater, increases the rate of sodification and salinization of shallow groundwater.  相似文献

Shallow karst water resources and caves may influence land surface temperatures due to cold transfer property of rocks and evaporation from buried karst. The objective of this research was to develop a method for recognition of karst areas based on evaluating the surface characteristics that manifest itself by low land surface temperature in the satellite images. Investigation of thermal ETM+ image of the study region in Iran showed that parts of carbonate rocks that bear karst water are relatively cooler compared to areas with similar terrain conditions. Relational modeling provided useful information on spatial distribution of areas that have the potential to hold karst water resources and/or caves. Further inspection of ASTER images, along with geotechnical, geophysical and geological field surveys verified the approach. Significant correlation was found between electrical resistivity and thermal band values. The method may be used as a primary exploratory tool for shallow karst water explorations in similar areas.  相似文献

Organic amendment application to heavy metal contaminated soils may contribute to leaching of phosphorus (P). The objectives of this study were to determine the influence of sheep manure and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) on the P leaching from a wide range of calcareous contaminated soils. Glass tubes, 4.9 cm diameter, and 40 cm long, were packed with contaminated soil. The resulting 20 cm long column of soils had bulk density of 1.3–1.4 g cm−3. The columns were leached with distilled water, 0.01 M EDTA, 0.01 M CaCl2 or sheep manure extract (SME) solutions. The breakthrough curves for P were different and the amounts of P leached varied considerably between different soils and leaching solutions. The amounts leached with SME were less than the amount added through the SME, indicating that some P was retained by the soil, mainly due to preliminary sorption of organic ligands on to the soil with the creation of new sorbing surfaces. The amount leached with EDTA solution varied from 9.9 to 46.3% of the extractable P when 15 pore volumes had passed through the column. Low amounts of P were leached by 0.01 M CaCl2, which is likely to be due to the high concentration of soluble Ca used in the solution. Thus, among leaching solutions the application of EDTA and SME on contaminated calcareous soils might enhance the mobility of P and large amounts of P will be leached, leading to contamination of ground and surface waters.  相似文献

In areas of intensive crop production, continual phosphorous (P) applications as P fertilizer and farmyard manure have been made at levels exceeding crop requirement. As a result, surface soil accumulations of P have occurred to such an extent that loss of P in surface runoff and a high risk for P transfer into groundwater in concentrations exceeding the groundwater quality standard has become a priority management concern. Phosphorous content of groundwater was determined in order to examine dissolved P concentration and species in the groundwater and mineral solubilitiy in a semi-arid region of southern Malayer, western Iran. The speciation for P in groundwater was calculated using geochemical speciation model PHREEQC. The concentration of total P in the groundwater (0.01–2.56 mg P l−1) and estimated concentrations of HPO4 2− (49.5–89%), H2PO4 (1.5–17.3%), CaHPO4 + (5.7–36.1%), and CaPO4 (1.4–12.2%) varied considerably amongst the groundwater. Results suggest that the concentration of P in the groundwater could be primarily controlled by the solubility of octacalcium phosphate and β-tricalcium phosphate. Large amounts of P fertilizer, inadequate management of P fertilization, and low irrigation efficiency, coupled with sandy soils in some parts of the study area could be mainly responsible for the greater P in the groundwater. In general, the greater the dissolved P concentration in the groundwater, the closer the solution was to equilibrium with respect to the more soluble Ca-phosphate minerals. The groundwater P content could be potentially used to identify areas where management approaches, such as P applied and crop type planted, could be adjusted to different types of soils, geology and topography.  相似文献

We present examples of a controlled numerical experiment that contribute towards understanding of the physical phenomena that lead to the reduction of coherency of strong earthquake ground motion. We show examples for separation distance of 100 m between the two points on the ground surface, which is in the range of engineering interest. Our examples illustrate the consequences of:(a) standing waves that result from interference of the incident and reflected waves from a near vertical contrast in material properties,(b) standing waves within a concave inhomogeneity(a semi-circular valley in our examples), and(c) smaller motions in the diffraction zone, behind the inhomogeneity. We show that it is possible to reduce coherency, to the extent observed for recorded strong earthquake ground motion, even by a single inclusion in a half space, for incident ground motion that is coherent. We also illustrate the combined effects of geometric spreading and finite fault width, superimposed on the otherwise dominating effects caused by interference. Our examples show reduction of coherence for specific angles of incident waves, while, for other angles of incidence, the coherence remains essentially equal to one.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate boron (B) adsorption and the capacity of a surface complexation model for simulating this process in calcareous soils. Ten surface soils were collected from different land use areas in Hamedan, Western Iran, to characterize B sorption by soils. The mean B adsorbed by the sample soils varied from 8.9 to 32.8 %. Two empirical models including linear and Freundlich equations fitted well to the experimental data. The linear distribution (K d) values varied from 1.32 to 6.86 L kg?1, while the parameters of Freundlich equation including n and K Fr ranged from 1.16 to 1.33 and 3.31–16.81, respectively. The comparison of two empirical models indicated that B adsorption followed a nonlinear pattern. The soil organic matter had positive correlations with Freundlich and linear distribution coefficients. However, empirical models were not suitable for explaining the mechanism of B adsorption, so a surface complexation model was used to simulate and predict the B adsorption process. B adsorption modeling was conducted using Visual MINTEQ and PHREEQC, based on the assemblage of major surface components (hydrous ferric oxides, aluminum hydroxides, calcium carbonate, and humic acids). B adsorption was successfully modeled by surface complexation. The significant contribution of organic matter to B complexes was resulted from both experimental data and mechanistic modeling.  相似文献

We introduce a new class of 2D mass models, whose potentials are of Stäckel form in elliptic coordinates. Our model galaxies have two separate strong cusps that form double nuclei. The potential and surface density distributions are locally axisymmetric near the nuclei and become highly non-axisymmetric outside the nucleus. The surface density diverges toward the cuspy nuclei with the law     Our model is sustained by four general types of regular orbits: butterfly , nucleophilic banana , horseshoe and aligned loop orbits. Horseshoes and nucleophilic bananas support the existence of cuspy regions. Butterflies and aligned loops control the non-axisymmetric shape of outer regions. Without any need for central black holes, our distributed mass models resemble the nuclei of M31 and NGC 4486B. It is also shown that the self-gravity of the stellar disc can prevent the double nucleus to collapse.  相似文献
