We observed the initial release rate of metals from four fresh (i.e., without long time exposure to the atmosphere) hydrothermal sulfide cores into artificial seawater. The sulfide samples were collected by seafloor drilling from the Okinawa Trough by D/V Chikyu, powdered under inert gas, and immediately subjected to onboard metal-leaching experiments at different temperatures (5 °C and 20 °C), and under different redox conditions (oxic and anoxic), for 1–30 h. Zinc and Pb were preferentially released from sulfide samples containing various metals (i.e., Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb) into seawater. Under oxic experimental conditions, Zn and Pb dissolution rates from two sulfide samples composed mainly of iron disulfide minerals (pyrite and marcasite) were higher than those from two other sulfide samples with abundant sphalerite, galena, and/or silicate minerals. Scanning electron microscopy confirmed that the high metal-releasing sample contained several galvanic couples of iron disulfide with other sulfide minerals, whereas the low metal-releasing sample contained fewer galvanic couples or were coated by a silicate mineral. The experiments overall confirmed that the galvanic effects with iron disulfide minerals greatly induce the initial release of Zn and Pb from hydrothermal sulfides into seawater, especially under warm oxic conditions. 相似文献

The spatial and temporal distribution of the snow water equivalent (SWE), snow density and snow depth were estimated by a method combining remote sensing technology and degree‐day techniques over a study area of 370 000 km2. The advantages of this simulation model are its simplicity and the availability of degree‐day parameters, which can be successively evaluated by referring to snow area maps created from satellite images. This simulation worked very well for estimating SWE and helped to separate the areas of thin snow cover from heavier snowfall. However, shallow snow in warm regions led to some misjudgments in the snow area maps because of the time lag between when the satellite image was acquired and the simulation itself. Vulnerable areas, where a large variation in the amount of snow affects people's life, could be identified from the differences between heavy and light snow years. This vulnerability stems from a predicted lack of irrigation water for rice production caused by future climate change. The model developed in this study has the potential to contribute to water management activities and decision‐making processes when considering necessary adaptations to future climate change. Using data for one year, we examined the vertical wind speed profileson a mountain slope covered with forest in northern Thailand undera tropical monsoon climate. We defined two profile patterns: higherwind speeds at greater heights (Pattern 1) and lower wind speeds atgreater heights (Pattern 2). We classified 9.4% of the data as Pattern 2;this pattern tended to occur during the night, at low wind speeds, and with high outgoing longwave radiation. In addition, stable stratification anddecoupling between the canopy surface air and the overlying layers wereobserved when Pattern 2 occurred frequently. These facts suggested thatPattern 2 was caused by a nocturnal drainage flow. The occurrence ofPattern 2 showed a clear seasonal trend, indicating that there is a seasonaltrend in the occurrence of nocturnal drainage flows. Pattern 2 was observedmore frequently between August and February and less frequently betweenMarch and July. Structural modifications induced by shock-wave compression up to 40 GPa in anorthite glass are investigated by Raman spectroscopy.
In the first investigation, densification increases with increasing shock pressure. A maximum densification of 2.2% is obtained
for a shock pressure of 24 GPa. This densification is attributed to a decrease of the average ring size, favoring three-membered
rings. The densification is much lower than in silica glass subject to shock at similar pressures (11%), because the T-O-T
bond angle decrease is impeded in anorthite glass. For higher shock pressures, the decrease of the recovered densification
is attributed to partial annealing of the samples due to high after-shock residual temperatures. The study of the annealing
process of the most densified glass by in-situ high temperature Raman spectroscopy confirms that relaxation of the three-membered
rings occurs above about 900 K.

This study presents a tsunami human damage prediction method employing numerical calculation and GIS (Geographical Information System) for Usa town, Tosa City, Shikoku Island, Japan. Sometime near the end of the first half of the twenty-first century, a huge earthquake is predicted to occur along the Nankai trough and costal areas facing the Pacific ocean of Shikoku Island. Much damage due to the resultant tsunamis will be caused, therefore, it is necessary to predict the extent of human damage for every town in high-risk areas.The number of tsunami victims was estimated by population in areas of maximum inundation. The number of deaths as a result of tsunami was estimated by a method which employed accumulated death toll of every area in terms of time and space, taking into account consideration of time necessary to begin to seek refuge after an earthquake, tsunami inundation depth on land, flow velocity and evacuation speed. As a result of this study a rapid decrease in death toll by early evacuation was shown quantitatively for the first time.Thus, with the method presented here, it is possible to estimate the extent of tsunami human damage on coastal regions, and may be useful as a tsunami human damage countermeasure. 相似文献

Gas adsorption isotherms of Akabira coals were established for pure carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrogen (N2). Experimental data fit well into the Langmuir model. The ratio of sorption capacity of CO2, CH4, and N2 is 8.5:3.5:1 at a lower pressure (1.2 MPa) regime and becomes 5.5:2:1 when gas pressure increases to 6.0 MPa. The difference in sorption capacity of these three gases is explained by differences in the density of the three gases with increasing pressure. A coal–methane system partially saturated with CH4 at 2.4 MPa adsorption pressure was experimentally studied. Desorption behavior of CH4 by injecting pure CO2 (at 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0 MPa), and by injecting the CO2–N2 mixture and pure N2 (at 3.0 and 6.0 MPa) were evaluated. Results indicate that the preferential sorption property of coal for CO2 is significantly higher than that for CH4 or N2. CO2 injection can displace almost all of the CH4 adsorbed on coal. When modeling the CH4–CO2 binary and CH2–CO2–N2 ternary adsorption system by using the extended Langmuir (EL) equation, the EL model always over-predicted the sorbed CO2 value with a lower error, while under-predicting the sorbed CH4 with a higher error. A part of CO2 may dissolve into the solid organic structure of coal, besides its competitive adsorption with other gases. According to this explanation, the EL coefficients of CO2 in EL equation were revised. The thermal conductivity of NaCl, MgO, coesite and stishovite have been measured as a function of pressures up to 40 kbar (4 Gpa) at room temperature. Polycrystalline coesite and stishovite were synthesized under high pressures and temperatures at our laboratory. An improved version of the comparative method suitable for the thermal conductivity measurement of small samples under high pressures was designed. The zero-pressure values are 0.0189 and 0.0412 cal. cm?1 s?1 °C?1 for coesite and stishovite, respectively. The thermal conductivities were found to increase linearly with pressure, and the increase rates relative to their zero-pressure values were 3.1, 0.68, 0.39 and 0.90% per kbar for NaCl, MgO, coesite and stishovite, respectively. On the thermal conductivity of coesite, the pressure dependence is small and the zero-pressure value is almost the same as that of polycrystalline quartz. On the other hand, the zero-pressure value of stishovite is 2.2 times as large as that of coesite. 相似文献

The horizontal distribution of the epipelagic zooplankton communities in the western Arctic Ocean was studied during August–October 2008. Zooplankton abundance and biomass were higher in the Chukchi Sea, and ranged from 3,000 to 274,000 ind. m?2 and 5–678 g WM m?2, respectively. Copepods were the most dominant taxa and comprised 37?94% of zooplankton abundance. For calanoid copepods, 30 species belonging to 20 genera were identified. Based on the copepod abundance, their communities were classified into three groups using a cluster analysis. The horizontal distribution of each group was well synchronized with depth zones, defined here as Shelf, Slope and Basin. Neritic Pacific copepods were the dominant species in the Shelf zone. Arctic copepods were substantially greater in the Slope zone than the other regions. Mesopelagic copepods were greater in the Basin zone than the other regions. Stage compositions of large-sized Arctic copepods (Calanus glacialis and Metridia longa) were characterized by the dominance of late copepodid stages in the Basin. Both the abundance and stage compositions of large copepods corresponded well with Chl. a concentrations in each region, with high Chl. a in the Shelf and Slope supporting reproduction of copepods resulting in high abundance dominated by early copepodid stages. 相似文献

In order to find the relationship between the shaft lining stability and the coal extraction operation, a 3D numerical model of strata layers and shaft lining was established for simulating the influence of coal extraction operation on shaft lining. Certain factors including mining depth, safety pillar width, mining width and mining height were taken as the influence factors in the simulation. The results indicated that the coal extraction could lead to the initiation of the failure in the aquifer and rock layers. As the mining depth increases, the shear strain increment in aquifer becomes small. In this case, the distance between mining panel and aquifer should be larger than 220 m and the safety pillar width should not <70 m. The maximum principal stress in aquifer had a little relation to mining operations. The mining panel width should not exceed 50 m without any support. 相似文献

通过对湿度和压力分别达300℃和3GPa干条件下实验变形的一系列花岗岩样品的系统光学和扫描电镜显微构造分析,识别出了几种具有不同特点及不同变形机制的显微破裂型式:a.微破碎带;b.微透镜带;c.短程破裂;d.扭折带破裂;e.粒内破裂;f.颗粒边界破裂。评价了它们与高压型和低压型破裂的显微构造对应性,认为a和f是低压破裂的特征性构造型式;b、c和d在高压破裂中最为典型;而e则可以出现在两种破裂型式中。本文阐述了破裂作用的微观机制,包括破裂的成核、扩展、生长和连接。破裂作用、由破裂诱发的脆性破裂和碎裂流动在目前实验变形条件下占主导地位,而在相对较高温条件下晶质塑性也起着一定的作用。破裂作用的成核可以始于颗粒边界,而引起摩擦颗粒边界滑移,也可以始于相邻颗粒或晶内包体颗粒的一些端点,或始于晶内双晶和解理面。破裂的生长和扩展一般是由于一些破裂的侧向延伸、相近破裂系统的联合和不同破裂系统的转变。低压样品的最终破裂一般归咎于一些贯穿性微断层的出现及主断层附近微破裂群的产生,微破碎角砾岩是其主要构造岩类型,类似于天然张性断层带构造;而沿主高压破裂附近却从未见到这种微破裂群的出现,主要表现为主破裂面及一些均匀分布的短程破裂构造, 典型构造岩为构造透镜体, 类似于天然压性与压扭性断层构造。两种破裂在成核、扩展与位移发育诸方面表现出的差别有助理解它们在声发射方面的差异。 相似文献
