This study elucidates the geothermal influence of a salt dome on the diagenesis of organic matter present in sedimentary sequences directly overlying the salt strata. Despite similarities in geological setting, geochemical characteristics in sedimentary column and proximity of location (~3 km), the exploratory wells Adolphus 2-k-41 and D-50 drilled on the crest and flank of a salt dome respectively, show considerable differences in the quantitative and qualitative distribution of hydrocarbons. The well drilled on the crest of the salt dome tested oil of 31°APl gravity. The concentrations of gaseous (C1-C4) and heavy (C15+) hydrocarbons of this well were several times higher than those found in the corresponding sequences of a flank well. The coloration studies of isolated kerogen and gas chromatographic investigations of hydrocarbons suggest that the organic matter present in Adolphus 2-k-41 has undergone a greater degree of thermal alteration than that of D-50. The heat radiating from the salt strata is believed to be responsible for the early diagenesis of the organic matter.  相似文献

Two sediment cores collected in Chaleur Trough, Gulf of St. Lawrence are compared in terms of organic geochemistry, sediment texture and foraminifera. One of the cores was collected from a depression and contained methane in the range of 5,970–14,230 ppm, in comparison to 42–106 ppm in the core of open environment. The sediments of the methanerich core are finer, higher in organic carbon, extractable organic matter, plant pigments and contained more diverse foraminiferal assemblages. The results of these geological investigations tend to suggest a relatively fast rate of sedimentation in the depression. This results in the preservation of organic compounds and development of anaerobic subsurface conditions, consequently giving rise to high concentrations of methane through fermentative processes. No other gaseous hydrocarbons were detected hence the possibility of seepage of petroleum gases appears to be remote.  相似文献

Geol., 9: 141–154The effect of low to moderate organic content on the engineering properties of a remoulded marine sediment was investigated by classificatin tests, undrained shear-strength tests, consolidation tests and triaxial compression tests. Sediment with a naturally occuring organic content of 2%, was treated to provide 0, 3, and 4% organic matter; first by reaction with hydrogen peroxide to remove the organic matter and then by addition of a naturally occuring humic compound in the latter two cases. In its natural state the sediment was classified as an organic sediment of low plsticity. Addition of the stated amounts of organic content did not result in the sediment being classified as organic; however, the remoulded undrained shear stregnth, the compressability, and the rheological behaivior of the sediment were significantly affected by ht evariations in the organic content. By contrast, the effects of these variations on the specific gravity, permeability, rate of consolidation and consolidated-undrained shear stregnth were not very marked.  相似文献

Geospatial presentation of habitat has become a key issue for planning conservation and management of any ecosystem. Hokersar wetland, one of the best resorts of migratory waterfowl in Kashmir, is under anthropogenic pressure and siltation due to floods. This has resulted in the degradation and change in the habitat quality of varied aquatic flora and fauna. Moreover, the seasonal changes affect the water level and land cover characteristics of the landscape. In the present study temporal mapping of the wetland has been carried out using the data sets for the autumn and spring seasons to assess the land cove/land use dynamics. The temporal change analysis, in the urban sprawl and the wetland, has been carried out to assess the rate of changes in the wetland and its environs. The wetland initially comprised of patch of marshy waterfowl habitat with some open water bodies. It has been fragmented into a large number of land uses because of anthropogenic activities. The increase in the settlement has been observed proportionate to the rate of fragmentation in the wetland. This study has created an information base, which will help to design conservation schemes for long term maintenance of the wetland.  相似文献

Compact remnants – stellar mass black holes and neutron stars formed in the inner few parsec of galactic centres are predicted to sink into the central parsec due to dynamical friction on low-mass stars, forming a high concentration cusp. Same physical region may also contain very high-density molecular clouds and accretion discs that are needed to fuel supermassive black hole (SMBH) activity. Here we estimate gas capture rates on to the cusp of stellar remnants, and the resulting X-ray luminosity, as a function of the accretion disc mass. At low disc masses, most compact objects are too dim to be observable, whereas in the high disc case most of them are accreting at their Eddington rates. We find that for low accretion disc masses, compact remnant cusps may be more luminous than the central SMBHs. This 'diffuse' emission may be of importance for local moderately bright active galactic nuclei (AGNs), especially low-luminosity AGNs. We also briefly discuss how this expected emission can be used to put constraints on the black hole cusp near our Galactic Centre.  相似文献

The emissions from palm oil industry through incineration and open burning are the major sources of air pollutions contribution in Malaysia. The consequence of increasing the particulate concentration, the particulate matter dissolves with vapour and grows into droplets when the humidity exceeds approximately 70% and causing opaque situation known as haze. This work focuses on the dispersion particulate matter from palm oil mill. Gaussian Plume Model from a point source, subject to various atmospheric conditions is used to calculate particulate matter concentration then display the distribution of plume dispersion using geographic information system. Atmospheric Stability, mixing height, wind direction, wind speed, natural and artificial features play an important role in dispersion process. Study on the dispersion of particulate matters and the haze potential are presented as a case study in this paper. The data obtained will be served as the purpose of modeling the transport of particulate matter for obtaining permits and prevention of significant deterioration to the environment.  相似文献

The Late Permian succession of the Upper Indus Basin in northeastern Pakistan is represented by the carbonate-dominated Zaluch Group, which consists of the Amb, Wargal and Chhidru formations, which accumulated on the southwestern shelf of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean, north of the hydrocarbon-producing Permian strata of the Arabian Peninsula. The reservoir properties of the mixed clastic-carbonate Chhidru Formation (CFm) are evaluated based on petrography, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The diagenetic features are recognized, ranging from marine (isopachous fibrous calcite, micrite), through meteoric (blocky calcite-I, neomorphism and dissolution) to burial (poikilotopic cement, blocky calcite-II-III, fractures, fracture-filling, and stylolites). Major porosity types include fracture and moldic, while inter- and intra-particle porosities also exist. Observed visual porosity ranges from 1.5%–7.14% with an average of 5.15%. The sandstone facies (CMF-4) has the highest average porosity of 10.7%, whereas the siliciclastic grainstone microfacies (CMF-3) shows an average porosity of 5.3%. The siliciclastic mudstone microfacies (CMF-1) and siliciclastic wacke-packestone microfacies (CMF-2) show the lowest porosities of 4.8% and 5.0%, respectively. Diagenetic processes like cementation, neomorphism, stylolitization and compaction have reduced the primary porosities; however, processes of dissolution and fracturing have produced secondary porosity. On average, the CFm in the Nammal Gorge, Salt Range shows promise and at Gula Khel Gorge, Trans-Indus, the lowest porosity.  相似文献

Present study reports the PGE-geochemistry of mantle peridotites and Nd-isotope geochemistry of arc related mafic rocks from the Indus Suture Zone (ISZ), western Ladakh. The total PGE concentration of the Shergol and Suru Valley peridotites (∑PGE = 96–180 ppb) is much higher than that of the primitive mantle and global ophiolitic mantle peridotites. The studied peridotites show concave upward PGE-distribution patterns with higher palladium-group PGE/Iridium-group PGE ratios (i.e., 0.8–2.9) suggesting that the partial melting is not the sole factor responsible for the evolution of these peridotites. The observed PGE-distribution patterns are distinct from residual/refractory mantle peridotites, which have concave downward or flat PGE-distribution patterns. Relative enrichment of palladium-group PGE as well as other whole-rock incompatible elements (e.g., LILE and LREE) and higher Pd/Ir ratio (1.1–5.9) reflects that these peridotites have experienced fluid/melt interaction in a supra-subduction zone (SSZ) tectonic setting. Also, the Shergol mafic intrusives and Dras mafic volcanics, associated with the studied peridotites, have high 143Nd/144Nd ratios (i.e., 0.512908–0.513078 and 0.512901–0.512977, respectively) and positive εNd(t) (calculated for t = 140 Ma) values (i.e., +5.3 to +8.6 and + 5.1 to +6.6, respectively), indicating derivation from depleted mantle sources within an intra-oceanic arc setting, similar to Spongtang and Nidar ophiolites from other parts of Ladakh Himalaya. The transition from SSZ-type Shergol and Suru Valley peridotites to Early Cretaceous tholeiitic Shergol mafic intrusives followed by tholeiitic to calc-alkaline Dras mafic volcanics within the Neo-Tethys Ocean exhibit characteristics of subduction initiation mechanism analogous to the Izu-Bonin-Mariana arc system within western Pacific.  相似文献
