Microtremor measurements were conducted in Kushiro City, Hokkaido Island of Japan. The thickness of alluvial deposits in the central area of Kushiro City abruptly changes from 0 to 80 m. Predominant ground motion at a microtremor measuring site is represented by the spectral ratio, the ratio of Fourier amplitude spectrum of microtremor in the horizontal direction to that in the vertical direction. The peak frequency of the spectral ratio corresponds well to the predominant frequency estimated from the thickness of alluvial layer at each site. Based on a hypothesis that the spectral ratio can be regarded identical with a half of the amplification factor from diluvial bed rock to the ground surface, the strong ground motion due to the Kushiro-oki earthquake at each site is estimated. The method of estimation is verified by the comparison of the synthesized accelerogram with the recorded one at West Port of Kushiro. The results satisfactorily explain major damages and vibrations felt in Kushiro City during the earthquake.  相似文献

This study discusses the reproducibility of a numerical model for simulating the morphodynamics involved in the transport of large pieces of wood in a braided river, considering the root wad effect and jam formation. The developed numerical model can simulate the behaviour of large pieces of wood using a two-dimensional depth-averaged Eulerian flow model that calculates the water flow and bed morphology. A Lagrange-type wood transport model is used herein, and the applicability of the combined model is discussed through a comparison with obtained experimental results. From the simulation results, we calculate the total braiding index and estimate the deposition patterns of wood pieces for comparison with the experimental results. We then analyse the bed morphology responses and wood deposition patterns in terms of the root wad effect and input supply. Moreover, we discuss the advantages and limitations of the proposed model to predict the large wood dynamics considering the bed morphology. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The α − β transition of quartz was successfully observed with using a single sample by means of the rectangular parallelepiped resonance (RPR) method. An oriented rectangular parallelepiped of α-quartz single crystal was prepared and the resonant frequencies of 30–11 vibrational modes were measured from room temperature to 700°C. The softening of quartz crystal was observed as the significant reduction of resonant frequencies near the α–β transition. The present study is the first application of the RPR method to the study of phase transition. The complete set of elastic constants of α- and β-quartz were determined as a function of temperature by the least-squares inversion of the measured frequency data obtained by a single run. This is a merit yielded by the RPR method. It is shown near the α − β transition in both α- and β-quartz that the elastic parameters decrease proportionally to |TT 0|n , where T is temperature and T 0 is the transition temperature, 573.0°C for α-quartz and 574.3°C for β-quartz. It was also seen that linear incompressibilities K 1 = (C 11 +C 12 +C 13)/3 and K 3 = (C 33 +2C 13)/3 decrease rapidly toward the transition, whereas, shear moduli C 44, C S1 = (C 11 +C 33 -2C 13)/4 and C S3 = (C 11 -C 12)/2 = C 66 decrease only slightly. The shear modulus C S3 = C 66 increased slightly in α-quartz. The elastic properties of isotropic aggregate of quartz were calculated, and it is shown that the longitudinal wave velocity significantly decreases at the α − β transition, whereas, the shear wave velocity decreases only slightly.  相似文献

A theory is presented on the free osculations of a rectangular parallelepiped of piezoelectric crystal, by extending the theory of the rectangular parallelepiped resonance (RPR) method to determine elastic constants of crystals, as exemplified by an alpha-quartz specimen. The piezoelectric contribution to resonance frequencies was examined numerically on the specimen, and it was revealed that piezoelectricity causes approximately 5 kHz increase around 1 MHz. The resonance frequencies of the specimen were measured and inverted to elastic constants by least squares inversion. The inversion was by both the previous non-piezoelectric or elastic theory and by the present piezoelectric theory. The use of the non-piezoelectric theory resulted in an overestimate of 2σ or 0.6% in c 11 and underestimate of σ or 6% in c 12. These are the constants expected to be most affected by piezoelectricity. Errors are less than σ in the other constants. During measurement, it was found that the force applied to hold the specimen caused deviations from free oscillation and experimental errors of 5 kHz. The correction for this force is of some importance in RPR studies of piezoelectric crystals.  相似文献

In order to confirm the results of the authors’ previous work, which found that the existence of disturbances smaller than meso-scale eddies is important in large-scale mixing process between the Oyashio and Kuroshio waters in the intermediate layer, the results of an eddy-resolving model experiment are analyzed and compared with those of an eddy-permitting model. The intermediate salinity minimum given in the initial condition weakens as integration advances in the eddy-permitting model, while it recovers rapidly and is maintained thereafter in the eddy-resolving model, initialized from the unrealistic salinity distribution of the former. Filament-like fine structures in temperature and salinity develop actively in the latter, which are much smaller in horizontal width than meso-scale eddies, suggesting the importance of such disturbances in the large-scale mixing. The mixing ratio of the Oyashio water defined by the original Oyashio and Kuroshio waters shows that its value is generally higher in the intermediate lower sub-layer than in the intermediate upper sub-layer in the Mixed Water Region, and the salinity minimum exists between layers with low and high values of the mixing ratio with its strong vertical gradient. The eddy transports of the Oyashio and Kuroshio waters in an isopycnal layer are divided into four components, usual isopycnal mixing of temperature and salinity being dominant, followed by the component associated with the thickness flux. The southward eddy transport of the Oyashio water and the northward eddy transport of the Kuroshio water are not symmetric to each other because the thickness-flux-associated components are in the same direction (southward).  相似文献

Six newly developed floats, which were set to drift on the 26.7 σθ isopycnal surface and to profile temperature, salinity and pressure above 1000 dbar once a week, were deployed in the Oyashio and Kuroshio Extension (KE) in order to examine the circulation, formation site and time scale of newly formed North Pacific Intermediate Water (NPIW). The floats were deployed in February or May 2001, and the data from their deployments to December 2002 are analyzed here. Four of the six floats were deployed near the KE axis at around the first meander crest, and they moved eastward to 157°E–176°W at latitudes of 30°N–45°N. The other two floats deployed in the Oyashio water with low-potential vorticity near the south coast of Hokkaido moved southward to reach the KE front and then moved eastward to the same region as the first four floats. The temperature and salinity at 26.7 σθ measured by the profiling floats indicate that the source waters of NPIW, Oyashio and Kuroshio waters are drastically mixed and modified in the mixed water region west of 160°E. The floats were separated into the three paths east of 160°E between the Kuroshio Extension front and the north of Water-Mass front (nearly subarctic front). New NPIW is judged to be formed along these three paths since the vertical profiles of temperature and salinity are quite smooth, having a salinity minimum at about 26.7σθ along each path. Kuroshio-Oyashio isopycnal mixing ratios of the new NPIW are 7:3, 6:4 and 5:5 at 26.7σθ along the southern, middle and northern paths, respectively. Potential vorticity converges to about 14–15 × 10−11 m−1s−1 along these paths. The time scale of new NPIW formation is estimated to be 1–1.5 years from the merger of Oyashio and Kuroshio waters to the formation of the new NPIW. Sea level data measured by TOPEX/POSEIDON over the Japan Sea from 1993 to 1994 is analyzed by assimilation using an approximate Kalman filter with a 1.5 layer (reduced-gravity) shallow water model. The study aims to extract signals associated with the first baroclinic mode and to determine the extent of its significance. The assimilation dramatically improves the model south of the Polar Front where as much as 20 cm2 of the observed sea level variance can be accounted for. In comparison, little variability in the northern cold water region is found consistent with the model dynamics, possibly due to significant differences in stratification.  相似文献

Regeneration of a warm anticyclonic ring as a result of interaction with cold water masses was observed within the western subarctic gyre of the North Pacific. Satellite, profiling float, and shipboard observations revealed that a warm-core ring originated from the Kuroshio Extension, propagating northeastwards, entrained cold and fresh water masses from the coastal area of Hokkaido, which are typically recognized within the ring as water that is colder than 2.5 °C. The potential temperature and planetary contribution of potential vorticity of the cold water in the coastal area of Hokkaido were <2 °C and 15 × 10?11 m?1s?1, respectively, suggesting that it originated from the Sea of Okhotsk. After the intrusion, the warm core of the ring cooled, freshened, and contracted, while the outer and lower parts became occupied by the cold and fresh water; however, even after the cooling, the positive surface elevation and downward depression of the main pycnocline, typical of an anticyclonic ring, were still evident. The ring continued to propagate northeastwards, with the main part of its structure occupied by the cold water, but changed its direction of travel from northwest to west-southwest 8 months after the cold-water event, and was finally absorbed into another warm-core ring. It is suggested that these anticyclonic rings, which transported and mixed warm and cold water masses, play important roles in the cross-gyre exchange of subtropical and subarctic waters in the North Pacific.  相似文献

We report systematic noble gas variation within a regional scale in an area that is well separated from all hotspots surrounding a remarkable ridge-ridge-ridge type triple junction—the Rodriguez Triple Junction of the Indian Ocean. We applied a newly established technique to select basaltic glass samples from the Mid-Oceanic Ridge Basalt (MORB) suite from the studied area. Samples were selected to create regular spacing along the ridge axis for investigating the magma system beneath the ridge axis. All samples show a typical isotope signature as MORB regardless of moderate contributions of an atmospheric component. Remarkably, uniform isotope ratios were found even for Ne and Ar in each segment. Such ratios had not been recognized in any magmatic system in Mid-Oceanic Ridges. Elemental abundances of samples are controlled both by mixing with the atmospheric component and by degassing. Contribution of atmospheric components is controlled strongly by a high temperature reaction caused by equilibration of dissolved noble gases between magma and seawater. Of the three models of the magma system around the Rodriguez Triple Junction, controlled contamination without mechanical mixing in a magma chamber presents the most likely scenario.  相似文献

Organisms collected from a coastal ecosystem in Japan were analyzed for concentrations of 205 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) congeners; analyses were guided by δ13C and δ15N measurements. The regression slopes of log PCB concentration on δ15N value are regarded as indices of biomagnification in food webs. The slope (wet weight basis) of ΣPCBs was +0.104; the slope (lipid weight basis) was close to zero. Lipid content increased from 0.06% in a primary producer to 8.32% in the highest trophic level consumer. Hence, biomagnification of ΣPCBs (wet weight basis) can be attributed to increase of lipid content through the food web. For most of the congeners, the slopes (wet weight basis) exceeded those (lipid weight basis) by ca. 0.10. Slopes increased with increasing PCB chlorination levels between chlorine numbers 1–6; slopes decreased at higher chlorination levels. This decrease is likely caused by a decrease in membrane permeability with increasing molecular weight.  相似文献
