U-Pb dating of zircons from two separate charnockite granite associations from S.W. Nigeria, previously considered to be of Kibaran or Archean age, yield PanAfrican emplacement ages of 631±18 Ma and 586±5 Ma respectively when all the data points of each association are regressed together. These U-Pb data on zircons do not permit a confirmation of the field-established sequence of rock emplacement within each charnockite-granite association; thus synchronous ages of 620±20 Ma (charnockite NIG 4), 634±21 Ma (charnockite NIG 7) and 621±10 Ma (granite NIG 12) are obtained for the three analyzed rocks of the Akure-Ikerre-Ado Ekiti association while those of the Idanre association yield younger but synchronous ages of 580±10 Ma (charnockite NIG 2), 593±13 Ma (charnockite NIG 3) and 587±10 Ma (granite NIG 11). The ages obtained for the rocks of the Akure-Ikerre-Ado Ekiti association very well fit the existing data on the tectonic evolution of the basement complex of Nigeria, whereas those from the Idanre area are difficult to reconcile with the current interpretation of tectonic data in this area.  相似文献

Individual neutral sugars in sediments, sediment trap materials and major biological sources of a coastal marine environment (Dabob Bay, Washington State) were analyzed by capillary gas chromatography of equilibrated isomeric mixtures. Plankton, bacteria, and vascular plant tissues of different types yielded reproducible and biochemically consistent compositional patterns. These patterns, when expressed in simple parameters, allowed distinctions between marine and terrestrial carbohydrate sources as well as among the major different types of vascular plant tissues. Plankton and bacteria, due to their compositional diversity, were not further distinguishable by carbohydrate compositions alone. Carbohydrate compositions of Dabob Bay sediments and sediment trap materials, interpreted using source-indicator parameters, indicate a predominantly marine origin with increased relative input of terrestrially-derived carbohydrates in winter periods of low phytoplankton productivity. Both plankton and grasses are indicated as major carbohydrate sources during spring. Glucose yield enhancement factors, determined by comparative acid pretreatments, confirm the general predominance of α-cellulose-poor marine polysaccharides and increased levels of α-cellulose-rich vascular plant remains in winter sediment trap samples.  相似文献

The decomposition of palmitic (C16), stearic (C18) and behenic (C22) acids with and without montmorillonite was studied in an inert atmosphere under isothermal (250 C) “bulk flow” conditions, using a CDS-820ZA automated pyro-analyser. The C8C21 hydrocarbons and the CO2 evolved were determined. It appears that in this open system montmorillonite affected the retention time of the acids and hence the kinetics of the reactions rather than the nature of the hydrocarbons formed. The reaction kinetics were very sensitive to changes in experimental conditions.The rate of hydrocarbon formation depended on the chain length of the carboxylic acid. In the absence of montmorillonite palmitic acid tended to sublimate before appreciable amounts of hydrocarbons were formed, stearic acid decomposed to give a range of n alkanes and alkanes while behenic acid yielded only very minor amounts of hydrocarbons. The presence of montmorillonite retarded hydrocarbon evolution with stearic acid. The hydrocarbon with one carbon atom less than the parent acid predominated in all one hour runs and the yield was increased by the presence of montmorillonite. The amount of CO2 evolved never exceeded 10% of the maximum possible. It appears that the reaction mechanism is complex with several processes occurring concurrently.  相似文献

Brachyuran crab larvae were sampled approximately monthly at four stations in the Gulf of Nicoya, a tropical estuary on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Central America. The gulf was divided into two regions based on physical and chemical characteristics. Larvae were identified to five families: Ocypodidae, Pinnotheridae, Portunidae, Majidae, Xanthidae. The abundance and distribution of these taxa were similar to that found in temperature estuaries of North America. Ocypodids, pinnixids, and xanthids were most common in the estuarine upper-gulf region while portunids were more common in the lower gulf. Majids were found in small numbers in the lower gulf. Only the ocypodids showed a consistent pattern in vertical distribution; larvae of this taxon were always more common in surface water. There was no consistent pattern in the seasonal abundance of the various taxa when compared among stations.  相似文献

The thermal diffusivity of Upper Chalk from the Micraster coranguinum zone had been calculated from 8 year temperature data obtained from depths between 30 cm and 21.34 m at Harestock, near Winchester, Hampshire.Amplitudes and phase lags were calculated from these data using Fourier analysis.Values of thermal diffusivity were calculated from the variation of amplitude with depth and phase lag with depth for the first harmonic using the Fourier heat flow equation.Agreement between the two methods was very good between 30 cm and 914 cm depth. An overall mean value is 0.004489 ± 0.00052cm?2s?1.Using appropriate values of porosity (47%) and density the mean thermal conductivity is 1.519W m?1°C?1± 0.326, for the water saturated state.  相似文献

The microstructure and microchemistry of minerals in Ca-Al-rich, coarse-grained inclusions (CAI) from the Allende meteorite have been investigated with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Spinels contain only low to moderate dislocation densities and are characterized by a ubiquitous, fine black spotty texture believed to originate from a slightly non-stoichiometric composition. Ti-Al-pyroxenes are relatively featureless, but contain veins of secondary phases apparently deposited in unhealed cracks. Chromite has been identified in the veins, suggesting transport of oxidized iron during alteration. Melilites exhibit the greatest variety of microstructures and are the most heavily altered phase in CAI. High dislocation densities are common and crystals exhibit considerable internal strain, indicating that they have not been annealed. Alteration occurs both as veins along cracks and in fronts extending across several grains. Plagioclase is commonly twinned, but dislocations are rare. The size and morphology of antiphase domains suggest a high temperature of formation with significant low-temperature annealing. Submicron pyroxene precipitates are a ubiquitous and unusual feature of Allende plagioclase whose properties are most consistent with prolonged slow cooling and equilibration after plagioclase crystallization. The precipitates appear to be sufficiently abundant to contain the majority of Mg present in plagioclase but do not easily account for Na and Ti abundances. Wollastonite needles from a cavity in a “fluffy” Type A inclusion exhibit the growth habits and relatively perfect external surfaces indicative of direct condensation from a vapor. Alteration products are predominantly crystalline and alteration of melilite appears to have proceeded primarily by solid-state diffusion at a temperature of approximately 920°K. Overall, the TEM observations suggest that CAI formed under near equilibrium conditions characterized by slow cooling and that solid-state bulk diffusion was the major process affecting their post-crystallization history.  相似文献
