The two-dimensional Van Tend and Kuperus (1978) scenario for pre-flare energy build-up is extended to a fully three-dimensional model and applied to the 16 May, 1981 flare observed at Debrecen. It is shown that there is plenty of free energy (1033 erg) available to explain the ensuing large two-ribbon flare. This estimate is an order of magnitude larger than the simple estimate made by Van Tend, as a result of the three-dimensional character of the present model. It is further confirmed that the global form of the preflare circuit is decisive for determining the amount of energy stored in the preflare configuration, while the internal structure of the filament is of little importance. This is in accordance with the similar claims of Alfvén and Van Tend and Kuperus.Order of magnitude estimates are derived for all the lumped circuit parameters of the preflare filament-return current circuit; self-inductance, resistance, current strength, and applied voltage. A new way of choosing of the calibrators for constructing (D)-dependence of supernova remnants (SNR) is suggested. A knowledge of the distance of an SNR is not sufficient to consider it as a calibrator. It is shown that neither more accurate determination of distance to calibrators, nor an increase in their number, nor an increase in the precision of the remnant angular size and radio flux determination can lead to a considerable improvement of simple (D)-dependence which is suggested in the given work.For remnants with small surface brightnesses there is no (D)-dependence at all. We review starting formulae and iteration processes for the solution of Kepler's equation, and give details of two complete procedures. The first has been in use for a number of years, but the second is entirely new. The new procedure operates with an iterative process that always gives fourth-order convergence and is taken to only two iterations. The theoreticl treatment of several geophysical problems presupposes the solution of field equations of the magnetic field in the Earth's mantle. The field equations are given in a scalar form for a spherical model of the Earth. It will be shown that analytical solutions are possible in all cases. The boundary conditions are discussed with regard to the dynamo process in the Earth's core and the existence of a field representation, which is investigated on the Earth's surface. The distribution of Solea solea and Solea senegalensis in the Tagus estuary was studied following a small-scale approach. Preliminary sampling revealed that sole concentrated in two areas within their nursery grounds, the main subtidal channel and a large intertidal mudflat. Beam trawls were conducted intensively in the two areas in July 2006. Depth, salinity and water temperature were measured. Substrate samples were collected for sediment type determination and macrobenthos identification and quantification. Generalized linear models were applied in order to explain the occurrence and variability of soles' densities, using depth, salinity, water temperature and abundance of polychaetes, oligochaetes, amphipods, isopods and bivalves as explanatory variables. While S. solea was more abundant in the main subtidal channel, a deeper, warmer and lower salinity area, S. senegalensis abundance was highest at the intertidal mudflat area. Presence of both species in the two areas was associated with abundance of polychaetes (generally with another variable associated), and for S. senegalensis in the subtidal channel it was associated with amphipods and depth. Abundance of S. solea in the main subtidal channel was associated mainly with polychaetes abundance, while that of S. senegalensis was associated with amphipods density. In the intertidal mudflat, bivalves and polychaetes presented significant relationships with both species densities. Some of the factors that had been reported to be important for the distribution of these species in previous studies also do so at a finer scale; however, this small-scale approach provided an in-depth knowledge on habitat selection and spatial segregation of these species within this nursery area. 相似文献

An impulsive event observed from the nightside geostationary orbit by the GEOS-2 European satellite is analysed in detail in the case of a very quiet magnetosphere. It is characterized by a very sharp and steep plasma density gradient observed near 2230 L.T. A quite detailed picture of the situation can be sketched as a result of the GEOS-2 set of experiments. The observations roughly organize themselves as follows along the geostationary orbit: an intense and well localized d.c. electric field appeared between the outbound crossing of the plasmapause and local midnight; at the same time a sudden ULF activity arose probably indicating the presence of field-aligned currents; GEOS-2 then entered a quieter plasmasheet where clear diamagnetic effects are evidenced. These observations are consistent with a stabilization of a possible interchange instability, which would maintain the density gradient at the plasmapause. The validity of the plasma density measurements which are made through an active wave method is discussed in connection with the 2 keV mean energy of the plasmasheet particles. The macroscopic evolution equation of the plasma bulk velocity is considered. It appears that the gradients of the macroscopic drift velocity of the plasma may have a non-negligible effect rendering invalid the unsophisticated scheme of a balance between kinetic and magnetic pressures. 相似文献

The emissivity for the two photons decay from the metastable level 2s has been computed in the case of a gaseous nebula of pure hydrogen, with both radiative and collisional excitation of the states.The populations of 2s and 2p levels are deduced from the condition of equilibrium with other levels. Electron temperatures between 104 and 4×104K and electron densities between 104 and 106 cm–3 have been investigated.For the optically thin case Ly intensity has also been computed.In the case of collisional excitation a much greater efficiency for the two photons process is found, which profoundly affects the appearance of the continuous spectrum. 相似文献
