Exsolution systems in synthetic pyroxenes were studied by transmission electron microscopy. An iron free sample En80Wo20 was prepared by devitrifying glass at 1300°C. Samples with bulk composition En50Fs30Wo20 and En35Fs38Wo27 were given various but well-defined heat treatments. The exsolution systems observed cannot unambiguously be related to the heat treatment. Periodic lamellar exsolution was observed parallel to (001) and (100) with sharp satellite reflections in the diffraction diagram. In more complex exsolution systems coarse (100) lamellae were found together with fine lamellae parallel to (001) and (100). An unusual phenomenon occurs at a (100) twin boundary where both individuals display exsolution lamellae parallel to (001). Pigeonite lamellae in one twin meet augite lamellae of the other individual at the twin boundary and vice-versa. The precise matching is achieved by a change in width near the boundary. Smoothly curved phase boundaries are developed in the obtuse angle of crosshatched (100) and (001) pigeonite lamellae in augite, whereas the boundaries in the acute angle are straight with sharp edges. Solar abundances based on recent laboratory oscillator strengths confirm the relationship between solar matter and carbonaceous chondrites. Within spectroscopic uncertainties (typically±40%) these meteorites contain refractory and volatile elements in solar proportions. Significant improvement of accuracy at present seems restricted to a few abundant elements having reliable quantum-mechanical oscillator strengths, and necessitates strictly differential spectrum analysis. Taking this into account, the solar abundance ratios Na/Ca and S/Ca have been determined to an accuracy of±15%. The results are:Na/Ca= 0.91and S/Ca= 6.8. These volatile/refractory ratios just match type 1 carbonaceous chondrites, but contrast with other types.These and related interstellar abundance features place constraints on the condensation process and a potential heterogeneity of the solar nebula. There is evidence that no drastic pre-solar separation of interstellar gas and grains has occurred, but minor imbalance may be a common mechanism co-determining stellar metal content. 相似文献

A glass of composition NaAlSi3O8 with small contents of Fe has been crystallized in the presence of water vapor under 1000 bars, at temperatures in the range of 250 to 700° C for varying periods of time. The synthetic crystals were investigated microscopically and by x-ray powder diffraction methods. Most of the crystals are twinned according to the albite law, but other twins are found too. Size and form of the crystals seem to depend on the temperature of crystallization. The optic axial angles (2V
x
) of the albites being measurable on the universal stage are in the range of 50 to 100 degrees. There seems to exist a linear relation between the 2131–21¯31 values (used as an indicator for the degree of ordering) and the 2V
x
values. The change of the lattice parameters from albite (D) to albite (O) is suggested to deviate slightly from linearity.In contrast to previous investigations the steady value of 2131–21¯31 which is characteristic of the temperature of crystallization was reached more rapidly. These results suggest that small content of Fe in the glass had a catalytic effect on the Al/Si ordering.

A note on Stokes production of turbulence kinetic energy in the oceanic mixed layer: observations in the Baltic Sea 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Shear- and convection-driven turbulence coexists with wind-generated surface gravity waves in the upper ocean. The turbulent Reynolds stresses in the oceanic mixed layer can therefore interact with the shear of the wave-generated Stokes drift velocity to extract energy from the surface waves and inject it into turbulence, thus augmenting the mean shear-driven turbulence. Stokes production of turbulence kinetic energy (TKE) is difficult to measure in the field, since it requires simultaneous measurement of the turbulent stress and the Stokes drift profiles in the water column. However, it is readily inferred using second moment closure models of the oceanic mixed layer provided: (1) wave properties are available, along with the usual water mass properties, and radiative and air–sea fluxes needed to drive the mixed layer model and (2) the model skill can be assessed by comparing the model results against the observed dissipation rates of TKE. Comprehensive measurements made during the Reynolds 2002 campaign in the Baltic Sea have made the estimation of Stokes production possible, and in this paper, we report on the effort and the conclusions reached. Measurements of air–sea exchange parameters and water mass properties during the campaign allowed a mixed layer model to be run and the turbulent stress in the water column to be inferred. Simultaneous wave spectrum measurements enabled Stokes drift profile to be deduced and wave breaking to be included in the model run, and the Stokes production of TKE in the water column estimated. Direct measurements of the TKE dissipation rate from an upward traversing microstructure profiler were used to assure that the model could reproduce the turbulent dissipation rate in the water column. The model results indicate that the Stokes production of TKE in the mixed layer is of the same order of magnitude as the shear production and must therefore be included in mixed layer models. 相似文献

A speciation procedure developed on reactive acidicpore water samples from mining areas is presented.Methods with low consumption of solution are requiredthat allow rapid sample preparation to avoid equilibriumchanges as far as possible. The entire procedure includesonly three parallel separation steps. One aliquot is filteredthrough an 1 kd ultrafiltration membrane to separate traceelements adsorbed or complexed by colloids. One cationand one anion exchange are performed with two additionalaliquots to determine simple hydrated ions and smallinorganic complex ions. Commonly used procedures ofion exchange seem to be problematic. This new techniqueis based on a novel ion exchanger. Subsequently the threefractions obtained from the separation procedures and theoriginal pore water sample are analysed by ICPMS, ICPOES,ET-AAS, Flame-AAS, FES and IC to determine the concentrationsof the major ions and additionally up to 50 trace elements. The 1st Chinese carbon dioxide(CO2)monitoring satellite mission,TanSat,was launched in 2016.The 1st TanSat global map of CO2 dry-air mixing ratio(XCO2)measurements over land was released as version 1 data product with an accuracy of 2.11 ppmv(parts per million by volume).In this paper,we introduce a new(version 2)TanSat global XCO2 product that is approached by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics Carbon dioxide retrieval Algorithm for Satellite remote sensing(IAPCAS),and the European Space Agency(ESA)Climate Change Initiative plus(CCI+)TanSat XCO2 product by University of Leicester Full Physics(UoL-FP)retrieval algorithm.The correction of the measurement spectrum improves the accuracy(?0.08 ppmv)and precision(1.47 ppmv)of the new retrieval,which provides opportunity for further application in global carbon flux studies in the future.Inter-comparison between the two retrievals indicates a good agreement,with a standard deviation of 1.28 ppmv and a bias of?0.35 ppmv. 相似文献

In this review paper, state-of-the-art observational and numerical modeling methods for small scale turbulence and mixing with applications to coastal oceans are presented in one context. Unresolved dynamics and remaining problems of field observations and numerical simulations are reviewed on the basis of the approach that modern process-oriented studies should be based on both observations and models. First of all, the basic dynamics of surface and bottom boundary layers as well as intermediate stratified regimes including the interaction of turbulence and internal waves are briefly discussed. Then, an overview is given on just established or recently emerging mechanical, acoustic and optical observational techniques. Microstructure shear probes although developed already in the 1970s have only recently become reliable commercial products. Specifically under surface waves turbulence measurements are difficult due to the necessary decomposition of waves and turbulence. The methods to apply Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) for estimations of Reynolds stresses, turbulence kinetic energy and dissipation rates are under further development. Finally, applications of well-established turbulence resolving particle image velocimetry (PIV) to the dynamics of the bottom boundary layer are presented. As counterpart to the field methods the state-of-the-art in numerical modeling in coastal seas is presented. This includes the application of the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) method to shallow water Langmuir Circulation (LC) and to stratified flow over a topographic obstacle. Furthermore, statistical turbulence closure methods as well as empirical turbulence parameterizations and their applicability to coastal ocean turbulence and mixing are discussed. Specific problems related to the combined wave-current bottom boundary layer are discussed. Finally, two coastal modeling sensitivity studies are presented as applications, a two-dimensional study of upwelling and downwelling and a three-dimensional study for a marginal sea scenario (Baltic Sea). It is concluded that the discussed methods need further refinements specifically to account for the complex dynamics associated with the presence of surface and internal waves. 相似文献

This report describes extensive investigations of the near bottom layer of the Western Baltic (Mecklenburg Bight, Darss Sill and Arkona Basin) which were conducted over a 5 year period to determine the typical structure, vertical thickness, vertical turbulence structure, and spatial and temporal variability of this water mass with regard to the area's particular hydrographic conditions. Series of vertical profiles were obtained using the microstructure profiler MSS86, which is capable of measuring high resolution profiles of temperature, conductivity, current shear, light attenuation and pressure down to the seafloor. The near bottom current structure was simultaneously measured with conventional current metres at fixed depths. A typical vertical density structure of the near bottom layer was found. At all investigation sites the Bottom Boundary Layer was separated from the overlying water mass by a well pronounced thermohaline pycnocline. A homogeneous water layer was situated above the bottom with a mean thickness of 2.2 m and typical variation between 0.5 and 3.5 m. The thickness of both the homogeneous layer and of the near bottom layer vary considerably. It is suggested that horizontal advection is responsible for these fluctuations in thickness. The variation in thickness of the Homogeneous Layer is independent of the local mean current velocity, wind speed and energy dissipation rate. Over periods of about 2 days the thickness of the Homogeneous Layer is determined by the average wind speed. The Bottom Boundary Layer shows its own characteristic dynamic, which is largely decoupled from that of the remaining water body. A logarithmic layer was generally not resolved by the current measurements. From dissipation rate measurements, the wall layer was determined to be 0.9 m thick. There was no significant correlation between the dissipation rate and the local wind speed, or between the dissipation rate and local mean current u100. This means that any simple parameterisation relating u100 or friction velocity to the locally produced turbulence and consequently to the resuspension of sediment is probably not applicable to shallow sea areas with properties like the Western Baltic. The investigation of sediment concentration in the BBL illustrates the importance of local effects combined with advection. The sediment stratified layer covers only the bottom most 50 cm. 相似文献

Station Helgoland Roads in the south-eastern North Sea (German Bight) hosts one of the richest long-term time series of marine
observations. Hydrodynamic transport simulations can help understand variability in the local data brought about by intermittent
changes of water masses. The objective of our study is to estimate to which extent the outcome of such transport simulations
depends on the choice of a specific hydrodynamic model. Our basic experiment consists of 3,377 Lagrangian simulations in time-reversed
mode initialized every 7 h within the period Feb 2002–Oct 2004. Fifty-day backward simulations were performed based on hourly
current fields from four different hydrodynamic models that are all well established but differ with regard to spatial resolution,
dimensionality (2D or 3D), the origin of atmospheric forcing data, treatment of boundary conditions, presence or absence of
baroclinic terms, and the numerical scheme. The particle-tracking algorithm is 2D; fields from 3D models were averaged vertically.
Drift simulations were evaluated quantitatively in terms of the fraction of released particles that crossed each cell of a
network of receptor regions centred at the island of Helgoland. We found substantial systematic differences between drift
simulations based on each of the four hydrodynamic models. Sensitivity studies with regard to spatial resolution and the effects
of baroclinic processes suggest that differences in model output cannot unambiguously be assigned to certain model properties
or restrictions. Therefore, multi-model simulations are needed for a proper identification of uncertainties in long-term Lagrangian
