Historical processes of state formation and nation building are crucial for an understanding of the geography of religions
and churches in Europe. Each country has developed its own model of state-church relations, giving rise to a ‘bewildering
variety’ as Grace Davie aptly remarks. The aim of this paper is to bring some order to this variety by developing a framework
for the comparative study of church-state relations based on Stein Rokkan’s famous conceptual map and recent extensions of
it to Central and Eastern Europe by John Madeley. According to that framework Europe has been divided into three mono-confessional
(Roman Catholic, Lutheran, and Eastern Orthodox) blocs and two multi-confessional culture belts from Northwest to Southeast,
and from Northeast to Southeast. This historical pattern has been challenged by secularisation, which started with the Enlightenment
and the French Revolution (Western Europe) and the Russian Revolution (Eastern Europe until the velvet revolutions of 1989/1991)
and then became widespread after the ‘cultural revolutions’ of the 1960s. A second challenge has to do with globalisation
and its consequences, such as massive immigration and the rise of immigrant religions, and in general deterritorialisation,
which means the disembeddedness of religion from its national territory. A third challenge concerns reterritorialisation at
other (supranational, regional, transnational, and local) scales, of which the new territorial order of the European Union
seems to be the most important. Finally, this paper serves as an introduction to the case studies on church-state relations

Following an earlier climatological study of North Pacific Polar Lows by employing dynamical downscaling of NCEP1 reanalysis in the regional climate model COSMO-CLM, the characteristics of Polar Low genesis over the North Pacific under different global warming scenarios are investigated. Simulations based on three scenarios from the Special Report on Emissions Scenarios were conducted using a global climate model (ECHAM5) and used to examine systematic changes in the occurrence of Polar Lows over the twenty first century. The results show that with more greenhouse gas emissions, global air temperature would rise, and the frequency of Polar Lows would decrease. With sea ice melting, the distribution of Polar Low genesis shows a northward shift. In the scenarios with stronger warming there is a larger reduction in the number of Polar Lows. 相似文献

The solidus temperatures in the haplogranite-system NaAlSi3O8-KAlSi3O8-SiO2-H2O-CO2 have been determined up to 15 kbar for a constant molar ratio of sodium to potassium of 11 and for fluid compositions ranging from pure water to pure carbon dioxide. The data for the water-saturated solidus are virtually identical with those of previous studies. At constant pressure, the solidus curve as a function of the fluid phase composition exhibits a point of inflection in the range of the water-rich compositions. This phenomenon is attributed to chemical interactions between the CO2 and the H2O in the silicate melt. The point of inflection disappears if the CO2 in the gas phase is replaced by molecular nitrogen. The CO2-saturated solidi have been measured at 2 and 5 kbars. The data at 5 kbar indicate a melting point depression in the order of 40° C compared to the dry solidus of Huang and Wyllie (1975). The experimental data can be used to estimate the melting temperatures of common quartz and feldspar bearing crustal rocks under the conditions of granulite facies metamorphism. Since for most fluid phase compositions, the solidus curves are very steep in the P, T-diagram, the beginning of melting is nearly exclusively determined by the fluid composition and almost independent of pressure between about 2 and more than 10 kbar. Therefore, the onset of partial melting in quartz and feldspar containing rocks under granulite facies conditions can be used to estimate the composition of a coexisting H2O-CO2 fluid phase if geothermometric data are available. The temperature range between the beginning of granulite facies metamorphism and the initiation of melting expands with increasing carbon dioxide content in the H2O-CO2 fluid phase. At a CO2 molar fraction of 0.9, this range extends from about 600° C to 900° C and is almost independent of pressure. 相似文献

Bacterial sulfate reduction in marine sediments generally occurs in the presence of high millimolar concentrations of sulfate. Published data indicate that low sulfate concentrations may limit sulfate reduction rates below 0.2-2 mM. Yet, high sulfate reduction rates occur in the 1-100 μM range in freshwater sediments and at the sulfate-methane transition in marine sediments. Through a combination of 35S-tracer experiments, including initial velocity experiments and time course experiments, we searched for different sulfate affinities in the mixed community of sulfate reducers in a marine sediment. We supported the radiotracer experiments with a highly sensitive ion chromatographic technique for sulfate with a detection limit of 0.15 μM SO42− in marine pore water. Our results showed that high and low affinities for sulfate co-occur and that the applied experimental approach may determine the observed apparent half saturation constant, Km. Our experimental and model data both show that sulfate reduction in the studied marine sediment could be explained by two dominating affinities for sulfate: a low affinity with a mean half saturation constant, Km, of 430 μM SO42− and a high affinity with a mean Km of 2.6 μM SO42−. The high-affinity sulfate reduction was thermodynamically un-constrained down to <1 μM SO42−, both in our experiments and under in situ conditions. The reduction of radio-labeled sulfate was partly reversible due to concurrent re-oxidation of sulfide by Fe(III) and possibly due to a reversibility of the enzymatic pathway of sulfate reduction. 基于华山树轮宽度差值年表重建的陕西关中及周边地区近500a来的初夏干燥指数序列,对该地区初夏极端旱涝事件及其连续旱涝变化特征进行了初步分析.区域干燥指数与Palmer指数在变化上极为相似,可用于反映该地区的旱涝变化.结果表明:该地区近500a来初夏共发生18次极端干旱事件和11次极端洪涝事件,除公元1521年与历史文献记录的旱涝事件相反,公元1513年、1574年、1675年和1945年未发现历史记录外,其余年份均能找到相应记录;近500a来初夏存在9个显著的连续偏旱期和10个显著的连续偏涝期,并以16和19世纪发生的连续旱涝事件最为频繁,而17和18世纪发生的旱涝事件相对较少,20世纪发生的干旱事件明显多于洪涝事件. 相似文献

Large‐scale simulations of flow in deformable porous media require efficient iterative methods for solving the involved systems of linear algebraic equations. Construction of efficient iterative methods is particularly challenging in problems with large jumps in material properties, which is often the case in geological applications, such as basin evolution at regional scales. The success of iterative methods for this type of problems depends strongly on finding effective preconditioners. This paper investigates how the block‐structured matrix system arising from single‐phase flow in elastic porous media should be preconditioned, in particular for highly discontinuous permeability and significant jumps in elastic properties. The most promising preconditioner combines algebraic multigrid with a Schur complement‐based exact block decomposition. Freshwater inputs often play a more direct role in estuarine phytoplankton biomass (chlorophyll a) accumulation than nitrogen (N) inputs, since discharge simultaneously controls both phytoplankton residence time and N loading. Understanding this link is critical, given potential changes in climate and human activities that may affect discharge and watershed N supply. Chlorophyll a (chla) relationships with hydrologic variability were examined in 3-year time series from two neighboring, shallow (<5?m), microtidal estuaries (New and Neuse River estuaries, NC, USA) influenced by the same climatic conditions and events. Under conditions ranging from drought to floods, N concentration and salinity showed direct positive and negative responses, respectively, to discharge for both estuaries. The response of chla to discharge was more complex, but was elucidated through conversion of discharge to freshwater flushing time, an estimate of transport time scale. Non-linear fits of chla to flushing time revealed non-monotonic, unimodal relationships that reflected the changing balance between intrinsic growth and losses through time and along the axis of each estuary. Maximum biomass occurred at approximately 10-day flushing times for both systems. Residual analysis of the fitted data revealed positive relationships between chla and temperature, suggesting enhanced growth rates at higher temperatures. N loading and system-wide, volume-weighted chla were positively correlated, and biomass yields per N load were greater than other marine systems. When combined with information on loss processes, these results on the hydrologic control of phytoplankton biomass will help formulate mechanistic models necessary to predict ecosystem responses to future climate and anthropogenic changes. 相似文献

Zusammenfassung Konglomeratische Oberkreidesandsteine im Raum Bad Harzburg wurden auf ihren Geröll- und Leitmineralgehalt hin untersucht. Aus der Leitmineralverteilung ergibt sich die stratigraphische Stellung der Emscher- und Senonvorkommen zueinander; aus der Geröllführung geht hervor, daß der Brockengranit bereits im Oberemscher im Erosionsniveau lag und die Aufrichtungszone mesozoischer Gesteine am Harznordrand auch im Schimmerwaldgebiet bis zum Quadratensenon übertage vorhanden war, obwohl sie heute hier nicht mehr zu finden ist. Ursache dieser Erscheinung ist ein Schollenabbruch aus dem Dach des Ilsenburggranits, der an der Wende Granulaten-Quadratensenon erfolgte und zu einer lokalen Überfahrung der Aufrichtungszone geführt hat. Die geologische Neuaufnahme des Paläozoikums nördlich des Ilsenburggranites stellt die heutigen Lagerungsverhältnisse dieses Gebietes klar; sie werden bei der Rekonstruktion der ursprünglichen Lagerung und des Bewegungsvorganges zugrunde gelegt, dessen Ergebnis die teilweise Überdeckung des Vorlandes ist. Ein ähnlicher Vorgang liegt auch am benachbarten Okervorsprung der Harznordrandlinie vor.Unter Berücksichtigung der Ergebnisse neuer Tiefbohrungen im Subherzyn wird eine Auffassung von Ablauf und Ursachen tektonischer Vorgänge in diesem Raum entwickelt, die der herrschenden Meinung in zahlreichen Punkten widerspricht:Eine echte Faltung des Subherzyns im Mesozoikum, die bisher vermutete starke Nordbewegung der Harzscholle und eine ausschließliche Bindung tektonischer Vorgänge in diesem Gebiet an orogene Phasen wird abgelehnt.Auslösender Vorgang aller tektonischen Erscheinungen im Subherzyn ist eine vertikale Differentialbewegung der Harz- und Vorlandscholle, die sich seit Ausgang des Paläozoikums gleichsinnig, aber mit örtlich und zeitlich wechselnder Intensität, abspielt. 相似文献

An integrated groundwater/surface water hydrological model with a 1 km2 grid has been constructed for Denmark covering 43,000 km2. The model is composed of a relatively simple root zone component for estimating the net precipitation, a comprehensive three-dimensional groundwater component for estimating recharge to and hydraulic heads in different geological layers, and a river component for streamflow routing and calculating stream–aquifer interaction. The model was constructed on the basis of the MIKE SHE code and by utilising comprehensive national databases on geology, soil, topography, river systems, climate and hydrology. The present paper describes the modelling process for the 7330 km2 island of Sjælland with emphasis on the problems experienced in combining the classical paradigms of groundwater modelling, such as inverse modelling of steady-state conditions, and catchment modelling, focussing on dynamic conditions and discharge simulation. Three model versions with different assumptions on input data and parameter values were required until the performance of the final, according to pre-defined accuracy criteria, model was evaluated as being satisfactory. The paper highlights the methodological issues related to establishment of performance criteria, parameterisation and assessment of parameter values from field data, calibration and validation test schemes. Most of the parameter values were assessed directly from field data, while about 10 ‘free’ parameters were subject to calibration using a combination of inverse steady-state groundwater modelling and manual trial-and-error dynamic groundwater/surface water modelling. 印度阶一奥伦尼克阶界线的全球层型候选剖面之一位于安徽巢湖地区;巢湖地区的下三叠统也是国际上同期地层中生物地层序列最有代表性、多重地层学手段应用齐备、研究效果最好的地层序列之一。根据巢湖地区3条代表性下三叠统剖面的岩石地层、生物地层和碳同位素地层的最新研究成果归纳出本区早三叠世综合地层序列,作为区域地层对比研究的标准.巢湖的下三叠统明确包含8个牙形石带和6个菊石带。它们具有区域甚至全球对比意义;巢湖地区早三叠世碳同位素δ^13Ccarb的演变呈现2个显著的漂移周期,这种有特色的碳同位素漂移,不仅具有地层学价值,而且可能对于三叠纪初的生物复苏和生态系演变具有指导意义.在综合地层序列基础上,将3条剖面的古地磁学研究成果链接,形成了巢湖地区完整的早三叠世磁性地层序列,包括5个主要的正向极性带和5个反向极性带,这也是目前在本区乃至华南获得的最完整的早三叠世磁极性序列之一.这些为该区域乃至全球相关地层研究树立了一个基本格架。 相似文献
