Bolivia is a country with high levels of poverty and inequality among its peoples and regions. For the nation and its urban and rural areas, trends in the social and spatial distribution of poverty (and extreme poverty) are identified from 1976 to 2003 using UBN data with minor support where appropriate from poverty lines. The main survey between 1992 and 2001 uses composite and selected UBN to track detailed poverty change for the country’s nine departments, its ten largest cities and a selection of other smaller urban and rural municipalities. Because of rising background increases in population in the various surveyed administrative units, many instances of relative reductions in poverty are accompanied by rising absolute increases. Marked spatial variations in poverty and development in the country over the last several decades are identified as the main driver for the country’s quickening pace of rural–urban migration. As a result, the paper concludes by assessing two different but closely related views. One investigation tests the notion that because more poor people have been living in Bolivia’s cities than in its rural areas since the mid to late 1990s, rapid rural–urban migration has simply shifted the locus of poverty from the countryside to the cities in a process called, the ‘urbanisation of poverty.’ A second, more challenging, investigation assesses the view that the flow of poor rural people to the better serviced urban areas of Bolivia has actually acted to alleviate national poverty levels.  相似文献

Results of long-term monitoring of water quality parameters of the Moskva River section within the limits of the city are generalized. The dynamics in quality parameters of the water entering the city wastewater treatment plants, purified effluents of the treatment plants, and river water is analyzed. A relationship between the concentration of organic matter in the river water at the exit from the city and WWTP capacity is demonstrated. Periods of unfavorable environmental state of the river in terms of oxygen regime are singled out based on oxygen regime dynamics. Variations in the river self-purification process are shown. It is stated that purified effluents of the WWTP are a component of the city hydrological system.  相似文献

Experimental proofs of the existence of the formation and destruction mechanisms of solar proton belts in the inner magnetosphere at a rapid change in the penetration boundary of solar protons are presented. An analysis of the measurements of solar protons and alpha-particles on board the Coronas-F low-altitude polar satellite during the magnetic storms in October–November 2003 is performed. During this period, formation and destruction of the belts of solar cosmic rays was observed several times. The compression of the magnetosphere during a storm makes possible the direct penetration of solar protons deep into the inner magnetosphere. The proton trajectories outside the penetration boundary are open, and the preliminary captured particles can easily leave the magnetosphere. During the recovery of the magnetospheric configuration, when the penetration boundary goes away from the Earth, the solar protons and alpha-particles with relatively low velocity of the magnetic drift remain stably captured, whereas the particles of higher energies follow the motion of the penetration boundary. That is why the energy range of the captured protons is limited from above in contrast to the effect of injection during ineffective SC in the low-energy region.  相似文献

The Apuseni Mountains constitute one of the most interesting parts of the Carpathians in terms of landscape, biodiversity and culture. Yet dislocations are now severe and there are development threats which also require a significant response. On the one hand there are some severe pollution problems associated with mining areas developed in the communist period which require remedial action and the cases of Roşia Montana and Zlatna are discussed. On the other hand, there are forest and pasture zones – especially the Padiş Plateau – which are coming under heavy pressure from farmers seeking to enhance their incomes following the decline of mining and manufacturing which has left many households without salaries. At the same time, tourist pressure is growing. Actions are already being taken to limit pollution damage and develop sustainable landuse practices. There is a national park project linked with nature reserves comprising picturesque landscapes, a rare flora and fauna and distinct geological and palaeotological formations (including fossil ice). There are major tourist attractions and with proper management they could become part of a development programme of the countryside. However it is essential that all stakeholders adopt sustainable practices and this means that official programmes – including the future national park authority administration's work in environment protection and tourism management – are backed up by Environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (ENGOs). The paper reviews their diverse activities and concludes that they are making a very substantial contribution in ensuring that the potentials of isolated regions can be utilised in a manner consistent with nature conservation. A correlation has been detected between the volume density of pulsars and the density of interstellar ionized gas on scales of more than 500 pc in Galactic longitude and 200 pc in Galactic latitude. On smaller scales, the correlation is present only for pulsars with ages less than 60000 years, which are located predominantly near supernova remnants and H II regions. This all indicates that pulsars are born in regions with high concentrations of interstellar gas. The minimum emission measures observed in the directions toward pulsars are inversely proportional to the pulsar ages. It is concluded that the ionized gas in the vicinities of a number of pulsars was formed during supernova explosions, and corresponds to Strömgren zones. The ionization of the gas in these zones requires a radiation energy on the order of 1050–1051 erg.  相似文献

W75N is a star-forming region containing ultracompact H II regions as well as OH, H2O, and methanol masers. The VLBA maps obtained show that the masers are located in a thin disk rotating around an O star, which is the exciting star for the ultracompact H II region VLA1. A separate group of maser spots is associated with the ultracompact H II region VLA2. The radial velocity of the maser spots varies across the disk from 3.7 to 10.9 km/s. The disk diameter is 4000 AU. The maser spots revolve in Keplerian orbits around the O9 star.  相似文献

The emission measures EM in the directions of supernova remnants and pulsars are considered as functions of their ages t. The resulting plot has a well-defined lower boundary, which can be approximated by the expression EMmin∝1/t. The quantity EMmin increases with decreasing age t and does not level off or reach a maximum until t?500 yr. It is concluded that the bulk of the radiative energy that goes into ionizing and heating the interstellar gas is released at early stages of the supernova remnant’s evolution. We suggest that most of the kinetic energy of the supernova shell is converted into thermal energy and radiated at remnant ages t<100 yr, when the supernova shell, which is expanding at an enormous speed (about 104 km/s), overtakes the shell produced by the presupernova in the supergiant stage. We have estimated the ionization energy E?1051 erg, diameter L?60 pc, and electron density Ne?7 cm?3 of the HII regions around the supernovae (the supernova Strömgren zones). A list of objects that can be reliably identified as Strömgren zones of type II supernovae is presented. The plot of pulsar pulse broadening τ as a function of the pulsar age t also has a well-defined lower boundary, for which τ∝t?2 when t≥1000 yr. This suggests that turbulence develops during the first thousand years after the supernova outburst. It is also concluded that turbulence plays an important role in the formation and evolution of the Strömgren zones of type II supernovae.  相似文献

Observations with the 6-m telescope revealed eight new magnetic, chemically peculiar stars: HD 29925, HD 40711, HD 115606, HD 168796, HD 178892, HD 196691, HD 209051, and BD+32°2827. Zeeman observations of all these objects have been carried out for the first time. We selected candidates by analyzing the depression profile at a wavelength of λ5200 Å. This technique for selecting candidate magnetic stars was shown to be efficient: we found magnetic fields in 14 of the 15 objects that we selected for our observations with a Zeeman analyzer. A maximum longitudinal field strength B e exceeding 8 kG was found in HD 178892; in HD 209051 and HD196691, B e reaches 3.3 and 2.2 kG, respectively. For the remaining stars, we obtained lower limits of the longitudinal field (more than several hundred G).  相似文献
