We demonstrate that even in the absence of flares there are very often volumes of hot plasma in the corona above active regions with temperatures in excess of 10 million degrees. Characteristics of this hot plasma and its time variations seem to be different in active regions of different phase of development. These hot plasma regions are sources of very weak, but clearly recognizable, X-ray emission above 3.5 keV. Long-lived X-ray brightenings, 104 times weaker than a flare, but lasting up to 10 hr occur predominantly along the H = 0 line, apparently low in the corona. After major flares, long-lived X-ray emission is also radiated from tops of arches extending high into the corona. Some other long-lived sources, far from the H = 0 line, may be associated with newly emerging flux. Short-lived X-ray sources, with fluxes ranging from subflare levels to 10?3 times the flare flux, last for 2 to more than 30 min and are probably microflares. They seem to be most frequent in growing young active regions and appear often in areas with newly emerging flux.  相似文献

The paper summarizes observations of solar and space phenomena related to the McMath region Number 8461 which passed over the solar disk during the 1966 Proton Flare Project period, from August 21 to September 4, and produced two important solar particle events on August 28 and September 2. The most important results are reviewed and interpretation of some of them is suggested.Items of particular interest: Occurrence of proton-active regions when two or more rows of activity approach each other (Section 3). Possible stimulation of activity by magnetic fields of decaying regions that had been active before (4.2a, 5.1a). Significantly increased correlation of flares with X-ray bursts during the proton-active transit of the region (5.3b). Striking difference in the flare response in radio frequency range before and after August 26 (5.2b). Hardening of the X-rays (5.3a), increase in radio flux (5.2a), change in sunspot configuration (5.1c), and increased capability of the region for particle acceleration (5.1b, 5.2b), starting about three days prior to the proton flare. Clear evidence that some flares that occurred on or after August 26, but prior to the proton flare of August 28, already were sources of 1 MeV protons (5.2b, 8). Anomalous deficiency in metric component of radio bursts produced in the region (5.2c, 9.4d, 11.4b). Strong radio storm on meter waves immediately preceding the proton flare on August 28 (5.2a, 9.1b), coincident with preflare rising dark filament (9.1a) and slight preflare rise in flux of 1 MeV protons (10.2). Two phases of expansion (fast and slow) of the bright flare ribbons (9.2c). Coincidence of hard X-ray burst with the formation and fast separation of the bright flare ribbons. It is suggested that this is the time of particle acceleration in the flare (9.5b). Short-lived burst of UV radiation (9.6). Visible flare wave in the flare of August 28 (9.3b), and complexity of motions in this flare (9.4b). Suggested electron release by means of a blast wave (10.1a). Electron-proton splitting in the delayed shock-wave-associated maximum of the particle flux on August 29 (10.2c). First brightening of both proton flares in a similar position between the regions 8461 and 8459 (11.2c). Existence of a unique, low elevation coronal condensation three days after proton flare occurrences (7.2). Very strong flux of protons in energy range of the order of 100 MeV producing the largest PCA since July 1961, and unusually steep energy spectrum above 100 MeV in the flare of September 2 (12.2a, b, 12.4). Unusually long rise to the maximum flux, inconsistent with Burlaga's theory of anisotropic diffusion (12.2b). Interpretation of the undisturbed flux decay from September 2 to September 8 (12.2c). A corotating modulation phenomenon on September 8 (12.2d). Detection of medium nuclei, with He/M ratio 50 ± 11 (12.3a). Evidence against a purely velocity-dependent mode of particle propagation (12.3b). Electrons as the possible cause of the first PCA phase (12.4). Plasma disturbance due to permanent proton flux from the region (13.1). Electron injection into inner radiation belt during the geomagnetic storm associated with the September 2 flare (13.3).Section 14 brings a time scheme of the most important phenomena associated with the complex of activity and the active region in question, and some unsolved problems of particular interest are pointed out in Section 15.  相似文献

A simple method is proposed for a computation of the cooling of coronal flare loops by radiation and conduction, for various temperatures, densities, and lengths of the loops. The relative importance of conductive and radiative losses is briefly discussed.  相似文献

Among the key problems associated with the study of climate variability and its evolution are identification of the factors responsible for observed changes and quantification of their effects. Here, correlation and regression analysis are employed to detect the imprints of selected natural forcings (solar and volcanic activity) and anthropogenic influences (amounts of greenhouse gases—GHGs—and atmospheric aerosols), as well as prominent climatic oscillations (Southern Oscillation—SO, North Atlantic Oscillation—NAO, Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation—AMO) in the Czech annual and monthly temperature and precipitation series for the 1866–2010 period. We show that the long-term evolution of Czech temperature change is dominated by the influence of an increasing concentration of anthropogenic GHGs (explaining most of the observed warming), combined with substantially lower, and generally statistically insignificant, contributions from the sulphate aerosols (mild cooling) and variations in solar activity (mild warming), but with no distinct imprint from major volcanic eruptions. A significant portion of the observed short-term temperature variability can be linked to the influence of NAO. The contributions from SO and AMO are substantially weaker in magnitude. Aside from NAO, no major influence from the explanatory variables was found in the precipitation series. Nonlinear forms of regression were used to test for nonlinear interactions between the predictors and temperature/precipitation; the nonlinearities disclosed were, however, very weak, or not detectable at all. In addition to the outcomes of the attribution analysis for the Czech series, results for European and global land temperatures are also shown and discussed.  相似文献

This study has, for the first time, analysed in detail the risk occurrences of the last spring frost, first fall frost and the length of the frost-free period during the growing season of vegetable crops at a high horizontal resolution of 10 km in the Elbe River lowland in the Czech Republic. The daily minimum air temperature from 116 grid points throughout the studied area for the period 1961–2011 was used. The daily values of minimum air temperature ranges of 0 to ?1.1 °C, ?1.2 to ?2.2 °C and below ?2.2 °C were considered to constitute mild, moderate and severe frost intensities, respectively. Firstly, the spatiotemporal variability of the date of the last spring frost, the date of the first fall frost and the length of the frost-free period in the Elbe River lowland is provided. Secondly, the estimation of the probability of a later date in the spring and an earlier date in the fall for various severe frost events and the length of the frost-free period is determined. Third, the changes in the timing of the last and first frosts of the three severities, as well as the length of the frost-free period, are evaluated. From 1961 to 2011, the Elbe River lowland has experienced a decrease in the number of frost days, while the length of the frost-free period between the last spring frost and the first fall frost has increased. The temporal evolution of the frost-free period anomalies displays two distinct periods: a shortening of the frost-free period in the 1960s and an intensified lengthening of the frost-free period since the 1980s. Whereas the latest spring frost has ended on an earlier date across the Elbe River lowland, the first frost date in the fall has generally been delayed to a later date. The dates of the last spring frost have advanced by ?0.21 days per year on average. The fall dates are delayed up to 0.18 days per year, whereas the frost-free period is lengthening by up to 0.39 days per year on average. However, regional frost series suggests that the frost-free period exhibits a large amount of inter-annual variability. In terms of the growth of field vegetables, a late spring frost remains a risk factor, but the degree of risk has decreased. There is a 25 % chance of the occurrence of dangerous spring frosts during the planting of field vegetables after 3rd May, but after 15th May, the risk is only 10 %.  相似文献

The ‘low’ in the transient temperature versus depth borehole profiles around 120 m seen from deep temperature logs in the Canadian Prairies (southern Alberta–southern Saskatchewan), as well as in some of the European data, has been interpreted to be related to the Little Ice Age (LIA). Data point to the lowest ground surface and subsurface temperatures occurring in the very late eighteenth to nineteenth centuries. Inversion of these logs shows that surface temperature lows were followed by a recent warming period. Further, the synthetic profiles built on the basis of solar forcing history, stretching as far back as the beginning of the seventeenth century, suggest that the LIA signatures interpreted from the inversion of the borehole temperature logs would be difficult to be explained by known published models of past solar irradiation despite large range of assumed sensitivities for the couplings assumed, and that further forcing needs to be considered.  相似文献

A steady-state groundwater flow model of three Quaternary intertill aquifers in the eastern part of Lithuania has been compiled. The distinction of separate modelled layers is based on hydraulic and isotope-hydrochemistry data criteria. 3H data were used to estimate the corrected groundwater age and were coupled with a groundwater-flow-dynamics model of the Quaternary aquifer system along a cross-section flow pathway from the Baltic Upland recharge area in eastern Lithuania towards the discharge area in the lowlands near the city of Kaunas in central Lithuania. The bicarbonate content in groundwater (214–462 mg/l) increases downgradient towards the lowland area. The other major constituents and total dissolved solids (TDS) have a trend analogous to the bicarbonate. The 14C activity of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in the groundwater ranges from 41.4 to 85.7 pMC. With aquifer-system depth, active precipitation of aqueous solution takes place by dissolving minerals of calcite and dolomite and leakage of “old” groundwater from lower aquifers; the process is also traced by lower 14C and 3H activities and by more positive δ18O values in lowland areas.  相似文献

We analyze the relation between the long-term (1996–2009) activity of the polar AM Her in the optical and hard X-ray spectral regions. We investigate the mean values of the intensities in the individual high-state episodes. We made use of the ASM/RXTE observations for a time-series analysis of the long-term variations in the 1.5–12 keV band. The optical data came from the AFOEV database. We reveal a complicated relation between the optical (IO) and hard X-ray intensity (IX). We argue that our observations cannot be explained by the variations of the orbital modulation in the high-state. Also, the precession of the spin axis of the white dwarf or asynchronous rotation of this object are unlikely in our case. We show that the basic properties of the emitting region (s) is (are) established in the early phase (several days long) of the high-state episode but they are not reproduced for every episode. The increase of the mass transfer rate from the donor that switches the polar from the low to the high-state also establishes a division of the emission released during the accretion process into various spectral regions that is valid only for a given episode. These results enable us a better understanding of the multifrequency behavior of polars on long time-scales.  相似文献

Various observations indicate that coronal holes generally appear as low brightness temperature regions (LTRs) in the centimeter and millimeter wavelength ranges. However, within their borders local enhancements of radiation, that is, high brightness temperature regions (HTRs), often occur. The theory behind the described behavior is not fully understood and therefore we analyze full-disk solar images obtained at a wavelength of 8 mm at Metsähovi Radio Observatory and compare them with data simultaneously taken in other wavelength ranges. The observational finding that the average brightness temperature of coronal holes is not much different from the quiet-Sun level (with localized deviations toward higher and lower intensities on the order of a few percent) is compared with theoretical models of the thermal bremsstrahlung radiation originating in the solar chromosphere, transition region, and corona. Special attention is devoted to the interpretation of the localized enhancements of radiation observed inside coronal holes at millimeter wavelengths. The main conclusion is that the most important contribution to the brightness temperature comes from an increased density in the transition region and low corona (i.e., at the heights where the temperature is below 106 K). This can explain both the LTRs and HTRs associated with coronal holes.  相似文献
