Because the construction of dams and hydro-electric power stations of Liujiaxia and Yanguoxia across the Yellow River in West Gansu Province, North-West China, inhabitants in the reservoir areas were resettled in Heifangtai Loess Platform. Irrigation thus started in 1968. Perched water table was significantly raised and resulted in many loess flow failures in the past 30 years. This type of landslide was often featured by long runout distance, high speed and recurrence. Laboratory tests along ICU and CSD stress paths were performed. It is shown that the loess has a strong strain-softening behavior and instability can occur in drained condition before undrained liquefaction. The failure mechanism of loess flow can be interpreted as the following process: with increasing perched water table, collapse in loess was first triggered in drained condition and led to undrained loading to adjacent soil in the lower saturated part of the loess platform. The development of three intense active centers during their appearance on the solar disk is examined using high resolution observations at 2.8 cm. Each region shows a very bright component with brightness temperature > 106 K and size smaller than 20.The development of the bright components have been investigated on different time scales. Intensity fluctuations on a time scale of minutes are within the instrumental accuracy while the evolution over periods of days shows a variation of the flux density up to 30–40% per day.The problem of the bright cores height is discussed. Energetic particles in a turbulent medium can be subject to second-order Fermi acceleration due to scattering on moving plasma waves. This mechanism leads to growing particle momentum dispersion and, at the same time, increases the mean particle energy. In the most frequently met situations both processes can be represented by a single momentum diffusion term in the particle kinetic equation. In the present paper we discuss the conditions allowing the additional term for regular acceleration to arise. For forward-backward asymmetric scattering centres, besides the diffusive term one should explicitly consider the regular acceleration term in momentum space, which can consist of the first-order (∝ V), as well as the second-order (∝ V2) part in the wave velocity V. We derive the condition for the scattering probability in the wave rest frame requied for vanishing the regular acceleration term and provide a simple mechanical example illustrating the theoretical concepts. The Ragland, New Mexico chondrite was found in 1978, and consists of a single stone of 12.16 kg that broke into three pieces. The stone is moderately weathered and has a pronounced chondritic texture. Bulk composition favors an LL classification, and modal analysis and oxygen isotopic composition are consistent with this. The thermoluminescence sensitivity of 0.056 ± 0.020 normalized to Dhajala, compositional variability of olivine (mean Fa 18.3, σ = 10.1) and low-Ca pyroxene (mean Fs 14.6, σ = 6.7), and Ca concentrations in olivine indicate metamorphic subtype 3.4 ± 0.1. The isotopically heavy oxygen composition, which is characteristic of subtypes 3.0–3.1, may be a primary characteristic and not a result of weathering. Seawater is constantly circulating through oceanic basement as a low-temperature hydrothermal fluid (<150°C). In cases when
ultramafic rocks are exposed to the fluids, for instance during the initial phase of subduction, ferromagnesian minerals are
altered in contact with the water, leading to high pH and formation of secondary magnesium hydroxide, among other – brucite,
that may scavenge borate and phosphate from seawater. The high pH may promote abiotic formation of pentoses, particularly
ribose. Pentoses are stabilized by borate, since cyclic pentoses form a less reactive complex with borate. Analyses have shown
that borate occupies the 2' and 3' positions of ribose, thus leaving the 5' position available for reactions like phosphorylation.
The purine coding elements (adenine, in particular) of RNA may be formed in the same general hydrothermal environments of

Whole-rock compositions of muscovite-bearing amphibolite, trondhjemite, pegmatite and quartz-muscovite rocks from Sierra del
Convento and La Corea mélanges (eastern Cuba), as well as mineralogy, record complex circulation of Ba-rich fluids and melts
in the subduction environment. Partial melting of fluid-fluxed, MORB-derived amphibolite produced trondhjemite magmas that
crystallized at depth, in some cases evolving into pegmatites. Qtz-Ms rocks probably crystallized from primary fluids derived
from subducted sediments. All these rocks have elevated concentrations of large-ion lithophile elements, especially Ba (up
to 11,810 ppm), presumably released from slab sediments by fluids and/or melts. Fluid–rock interaction produced crystallization
of phengite in parental amphibolites. The phengite crystallized in all types of rocks is rich in Ba, with concentric zoning,
characterized by Ba-rich cores and Ba-poor rims, indicating a compatible behaviour of Ba in the studied systems. Zoning in
phengite is governed primarily by the celadonite (tschermak) exchange vector ((Mg,Fe)Si-(Al)-2), with more moderate contributions of the celsian (BaAl-(KSi)-1) and paragonite (NaK-1) exchange vectors. Late remobilization of Ba at relatively low temperature formed retrograde celsian. The compatible behaviour
of Ba in the studied rocks strengthens the importance of the stability of phengite for the transfer of LIL elements from the

The impact of increased temperature on the Third Pole, as the Himalayas is referred to, and the likely cascading impacts on the general downstream hydrology have been widely noted. However, the impact on fluvial geomorphology has not received specific attention. Change in the glacial domain in terms of melt increase will change discharge and sediment flux into fluvial system, which will induce changes in fluvial processes and forms. The present work attempts to study this process-based glacio-fluvial coupling in the two neighbouring glaciated river basins in the Northwest Himalaya, viz., the Sutlej and the Yamuna river basins till the mountain front. A total of 194 samples of river, tributary and groundwater of pre- and post-monsoon seasons in the two river basins were analysed for stable isotopes. The trend of δ18O and electrical conductivity along the mainstream gives qualitative idea on the influence of headwaters in the downstream of the catchment thereby allowing inference on melt contribution. Further, two component mixing model using stable oxygen isotope of two seasons water samples showed that melt contributes about 41.1–66.8 and 6.6–10.6% at different points to the total river discharge in the Sutlej and the Tons River (the glaciated, major tributary of the Yamuna River) basins, respectively. For different scenarios of increase in melt, stream power increase in the Sutlej River basin is significant as opposed to the Tons River. River channel in the Sutlej River basin will be significantly more impacted in comparison with the Yamuna River system. 相似文献
