Groups of embryonic grass shrimp,Palaemonetes pugio, were exposed to 0.1 and 0.3 mg/l cadmium at 30 ppt salinity and 25°C for the last 1, 4 or 8 days prior to hatching. Other groups of embryos were cultured in uncontaminated seawater. Prehatch exposure to cadmium was found to have no additive effect on the sensitivity of the larvae to cadmium exposure and salinity stress for 14 days after hatching. Only one group of larvae, exposed to 0.1 mg/l cadmium for 4 days before hatching, and transferred to 10 ppt salinity water containing 0.1 mg/l cadmium after hatching, showed a significant (X 2, P<0.05) decrease in survival, compared to control survival. No significant decreases in survival were observed for any larvae transferred to 15 and 30 ppt salinity at a pre- and posthatch cadmium concentration of 0.1 mg/l. At a pre- and posthatch cadmium concentration of 0.3 mg/l, significant decreases in survival were observed for all of the larvae transferred to 10 and 15 ppt salinity after hatching. Significant decreases in survival were observed for only 2 of the groups exposed before hatching and transferred to 30 ppt salinity and 0.3 mg/l cadmium after hatching.  相似文献

LaPaz Icefield (LAP) 02239 is a mildly aqueously altered CM2 carbonaceous chondrite that hosts a xenolith from a primitive chondritic parent body. The xenolith contains chondrules and calcium- and aluminum-rich inclusions (CAIs) in a very fine-grained matrix. The chondrules are comparable in mineralogy and oxygen isotopic composition with those in the CMs, and its CAIs are also mineralogically similar to the CM population apart for being unusually small and abundant. The presence of serpentine demonstrates that the xenolith has been aqueously altered, and its phyllosilicate-rich matrix has a comparable oxygen isotopic composition to the matrices of CM meteorites. The xenolith's chondrules lack fine-grained rims, whereas the xenolith itself has a fine-grained rim that is petrographically and chemically comparable with the rims on coarse grained objects in LAP 02239 and other CM meteorites. These properties show that the xenolith's parent body was formed from similar materials to the CM parent body(ies). Following its lithification by aqueous alteration, a piece of the xenolith's parent body was impact-ejected, acquired a fine-grained rim while free-floating in the protoplanetary disc, then was accreted along with rimmed chondrules and other materials to make the LAP 02239 parent body. Subsequent aqueous processing of the LAP 02239 parent body altered the fine-grained rims on the xenolith, chondrules, and CAIs. The xenolith shows that the timespan of geological evolution of carbonaceous chondrite parent bodies was sufficiently long for some of them to have been aqueously altered before others had formed.  相似文献

The ARTEMIS-I catalog of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) was initially developed on a first generation of low-resolution synoptic maps constructed from the SOHO/LASCO-C2 images of the K-corona and resulted in an online database listing all events detected since January 1996 (Boursier et al., Solar Phys. 257, 125, 2009). A new generation of synoptic maps with higher temporal (a factor of 1.5) and angular (a factor of 2.5) resolutions allowed us to reconsider the question of CME detection and resulted in the production of a new catalog: ARTEMIS-II. The parameters estimated for each detected CME are still the date and time of appearance, the position angle, the angular width, and (when detected at several solar distances) the global and median velocities. The new synoptic maps correct for the limited number of velocity determinations reported in the ARTEMIS-I catalog. We now determine the propagation velocity of 79 % of detected CMEs instead of 30 % in the previous version. A final major improvement is the estimation of the mass and kinetic energy of all CMEs for which we could determine the velocity, that is ≈?13?000 CMEs until December 2010. Individual comparisons of velocity determination of 23 CMEs for which a full three-dimensional kinematical solution has been published indicate that ARTEMIS-II performs extremely well except at the highest velocities, an intrinsic limitation of our method. Finally, individual comparisons of mass determination of seven CMEs for which a robust solution has been obtained from stereographic observations demonstrate the quality of the ARTEMIS-II results.  相似文献

Early Palaeozoic bimodal rift-related magmatism is widespread throughout much of the Variscides of Europe. It is traceable from the Polish Sudetes to NW Iberia. Granitic plutonism generally predates Cambro–Ordovician bimodal magmatism. In the N Bohemian Massif this early Palaeozoic granitic plutonism was generated by partial melting of Cadomian basement, whereas contemporaneous alkali granites with a mantle component are typical of the NW Iberian Massif. Silurian-Devonian mafic magmatism in the N Bohemian Massif, Massif Central and NW Iberian Massif is partly preserved as obducted ophiolites. Compositional diversity displayed by Cambro-Ordovician mafic magmatism can be accounted for by interaction between a spreading centre and an upwelling mantle plume. This indicates that combined tensional forces and mantle plume convection assisted the early Palaeozoic dispersal of terranes from the N Gondwana margin. Continued fragmentation resulted in development of an archipelago of related terranes separated by a network of seaways and formation of oceanic crust.  相似文献

Abstract— Elemental composition and composition ratios derived from gamma‐ray measurements collected by the NEAR‐Shoemaker spacecraft while on the surface of 433 Eros are reported. Performance of the gamma‐ray spectrometer (GRS) during cruise and orbit is reviewed. The best gamma‐ray data were collected on the surface of Eros after the spacecraft's controlled descent on 2001 February 12. Methods used in spectral analysis, to convert peak areas to incident photons, and photons to elemental composition are described in some detail. The elemental abundance of K and the Mg/Si, Fe/Si, Si/O and Fe/O abundance ratios were determined. The Mg/Si and Si/O ratios and the K abundance are roughly chondritic, but the Fe/Si and Fe/O ratios are low compared to expected chondritic values. Three possible explanations for the apparent Fe depletion are considered.  相似文献

Resin rodlets, sclerenchyma strands and woody splinters, which are collectively called rodlets, were studied by chemical, optical petrographic, and scanning-electron microscopic (SEM) techniques. A study was made of such rodlets from the bituminous coal beds of the central Appalachian basin (Pennsylvanian; Upper Carboniferous) of the United States. Comparisons were made with rodlets from coal beds of the Illinois basin, the Southern Anthracite Field of Pennsylvania, the St. Rose coal field of Nova Scotia, and European and other coal fields. In order to determine their physical and chemical properties, a detailed study was made of the rodlets from the Pomeroy coal bed (high volatile A bituminous coal; Monongahela Formation; Upper Pennsylvanian) of Kanawha County, West Virginia. The origin of the rodlets was determined by a comparative analysis of a medullosan (seed fern) stem from the Herrin (No. 6) coal bed (high volatile C bituminous coal; Carbondale Formation) from Washington County, Illinois. Rodlets are commonly concentrated in fusain or carbominerite layers or lenses in bituminous coal beds of the central Appalachian basin. Most of the rodlets examined in our study were probably derived from medullosan seed ferns. The three types of rodlets are distinguished on the basis of cellularity, morphology and fracture.The resin rodlets studied by us are noncellular and appear to be similar in properties and origin to those found in coal beds of the Middle and Upper Pennsylvanian of the Illinois basin. The resin rodlets extracted from the Pomeroy coal bed exhibit high relief and high reflectance when polished and viewed in reflected light; they are opaque in transmitted light. In cross section, the resin rodlets are oval to round and have diameters ranging from 60 to 450 μm. Many are solid, but some have vesicles, canals or cavities, which are commonly filled with clay, probably kaolinite. Typically, they have distinct fracture patterns (“kerfs”) in longitudinal and cross sections and many are characterized by dense (probably oxidized) rims. The orientation and amounts of void space and mineralization of resin rodlets in coal have resulted in much confusion in their recognition and classification. The resin rodlets are petrographically recognized as sclerotinites of the inertinite maceral group. We here propose that resin rodlets be assigned to the maceral variety of sclerotinites termed “resino-sclerotinite” because of their presumable resinous origin. Other investigators have confused some fusinitized resin rodlets with fungal masses, which have different morphological properties and which probably have different chemical properties. We here propose that such fungal masses be assigned to the maceral variety of sclerotinites termed “fungo-sclerotinite.”The sclerenchyma strands examined in our study are cellular, thick-walled, and crescent-shaped in cross section. They exhibit high reflectance and high relief and belong to semifusinite and fusinite of the inertinite maceral group. Sclerenchyma strands are commonly associated with resin canals in Medullosa and related seed-fern genera, which are common in coal balls of the Illinois basin. We here propose adoption of the maceral varietal terms “sclerenchymo-fusinite” and “sclerenchymo-semifusinite” for these bodies.The woody splinters in the Pomeroy coal bed are cellular and thin-walled and have scattered pits as much as a few microns in diameter. They are dark brown to black in transmitted light and commonly have a lower reflectance than the resino-sclerotinite and sclerenchymo-fusinite of the Pomeroy coal. The woody splinters belong to semifusinite and fusinite of the inertinite maceral group. The maceral varietal terms “xylemo-semifusinite” and “xylemo-fusinite” are here proposed for these bodies.Elemental chemical data for the resin rodlets of the Pomeroy coal bed of the central Appalachian basin indicate that resin rodlets have significantly lower atomic H/C and O/C ratios than do sclerenchyma strands and woody splinters. The lower atomic H/C and O/C ratios of the resin rodlets correlate with the highest reflectance. In the coal ball medullosan seed-fern stem from the Herrin (No. 6) coal bed of the Illinois basin, the reflectances of the resin rodlets, woody splinters and sclerenchyma strands are similar and comparable to those of associated vitrinite in the coal ball stem and in the attached coal. However, resin rodlets and sclerenchyma strands in the attached coal have significantly higher reflectances, similar to those of the Pomeroy coal.  相似文献
