Small basalt to dacite volcanic centers are distributed sparsely over the Bolivian Altiplano, behind the Andean volcanic front. Most are Pliocene to Recent in age, and are characterized by textural and mineralogical disequilibrium with abundant xenoliths and xenocrysts. True phenocrysts are rare in the more mafic samples. Compared with Recent volcanic rocks from Andean stratovolcanoes, the Bolivian centers overlap in major element trends. Incompatible element contents tend to be higher, particularly in the eastern Altiplano. The ranges of isotopic compositions reflect ubiquitous crustal contamination. Pb isotope compositions are dominated by Pb from isotopically heterogeneous basement, resulting in a wide scatter of data lying between inferred crustal compositions and showing little overlap with possible mantle sources in the region. Rocks sampled from the Bolivian Altiplano were probably derived from asthenospheric mantle and subjected to extensive open system differentiation during ascent through the 70 km thick crust of the region. Major element trends are largely controlled by the fractionating phase assemblage (olivine, clinopyroxene and amphibole). Trace element and isotope systematics, however, defy realistic attempts at modeling due to the geographic scatter of samples, the uniformity of compositions at a given center, and the heterogeneity of the contaminant. Nevertheless, there are first order systematic trace element variations that appear to relate to the geometry of the subduction zone. In particular, LIFE/HFSE (exemplified by Ba/Nb), and Zr/Nb ratios decrease from the arc front eastward into the Altiplano. These variations are not easily reconciled with control by crustal contamination alone. A model is proposed in which the asthenospheric source is fluxed by high Ba/Nb slab-derived fluid to induce melting. Beneath the arc, high fluid flux increases the Ba/Nb ratio of the asthenosphre and leads to high degrees of partial melting (high Zr/Nb). To the east, lower or no fluid flux leads to low Ba/Nb and low degrees of partial melting (low Zr/Nb). Melting in the back arc region of the Altiplano may be facilitated by lithospheric delamination that leads to decompression melting of counter-flowing asthenosphere. There is no unequivocal evidence that requires a significant role for the lithospheric mantle.  相似文献

A generic gravity source moment is an integral, over the source volume, of the product of the density distribution by a polynomia in the Cartesian coordinates of a point belonging to this volume. We obtained a formal expression for a generic moment in terms of integrals involving the gravity anomaly and the gravity potential. By analyzing the conditions under which this expression is valid, we conclude that, without usinga priori information regarding the sources, it is possible to determine, from the gravity anomaly, any moment or linear combination of moments whose associated polynomial has null Laplacian and depends only on the coordinates defining the measurement plane. Additionally, no moment whose associated polynomial has a nonnull laplacian can be determined without usinga priori information of the source.  相似文献

Precambrian emerald deposits of Brazil are found in a typical geologic setting with Archean basement and supracrustal, ultramafic, granitoid and rocks. Volcano-sedimentary series occur as imbricated structures or as bodies affected by complex folding and deformation. Emerald mineralization belongs to the classic biotite-schist deposit, which formed by the reaction of pegmatitic veins within ultrabasic rocks. At the same time, pegmatite-free emerald deposits linked to ductile shear zones are also known. Emerald formation is attributed to infiltrational metasomatic processes provoking a K-metasomatism of the ultrabasic rocks and also a desilication of the pegmatites. A new classification based on the geological setting, structural features, and ore paragenesis is proposed.  相似文献

Summary This study is aimed to qualitatively analyze the impact of remote sources on air pollution in the Metropolitan Area of S?o Paulo (MASP). Air-mass back trajectories from June to August of 1999 were calculated using a three-dimensional kinematic trajectory model and grouped into trajectory clusters. Correlations of individual trajectory clusters with O3, CO and PM10 concentrations were determined. In this model, trajectories were obtained using the means of the three wind velocity components (U, V and W). The three-dimensional wind field was derived from the Regional Atmospheric Modeling System, and downscaling was employed. Coarse and fine nested grids (64-km and 16-km horizontal resolution, respectively) were used. Every 12 h (at 00 and 12 UTC), a back-trajectory ensemble, using the 64-km grid, was calculated for five defined endpoints at intervals of 0.5° N, S, E and W of the MASP (λ = 23° 33′S, ϕ = 46° 45′W), that last endpoint being centered in the MASP. To analyze cluster trajectories, the five trajectory ensembles from each day were allocated into one of four clusters (northeast, southeast, southwest or northwest quadrant) based on the origin of the trajectory over 4 days. Days on which all five trajectories originated from the same quadrant were classified as “core” days. Core day concentrations of CO, O3 and PM10 during the study period were evaluated. The results show that, during the study period, air-mass back trajectories in the MASP originated from all four quadrants: northeast (32%), southeast (12%), southwest (19%) and northwest (37%). Our analysis of back-trajectory clusters in the MASP suggests a transport to ambient air of O3 precursors and O3 from the northeast region, which is associated with agricultural activities involving biomass burning.  相似文献

In the Cubatão region, southern Brazil, sediments are transported by several rivers from the Serra do Mar Ridge into the Santos estuary. Fertilizer plants have been operating along the margins of one of these rivers (Mogi River) producing a large volume of phosphogypsum, which is stockpiled in nearby areas. Surface sediments of the Mogi River were sampled upstream and downstream in relation to the point where the effluents of the phosphogypsum piles flow into the drainage system. In the vicinity of this point one sediment core was collected. Results show that REE, Ba, Zr and Th concentrations in the non-contaminated sediments are of the same order as those present in the upper continental crust. The contaminated samples present a composition affected by that of the phosphogypsum, marked by a higher concentration of these elements and a stronger degree of REE fractionation. These phosphogypsum characteristics are inherited from the Catalão igneous phosphate ore and were moderately modified by the industrial process of phosphoric acid production. The phosphogypsum signal decreases rapidly downstream, pointing to a limited area of influence of the stacks. The deepest sediments of the core are also free of contamination, representing a time interval prior to the deposition of phosphogypsum wastes on the banks of the estuary.  相似文献

Oxygen atoms within fossil wood provide high-resolution records of climate change, particularly for the Quaternary. However, current analysis methods of fossil cellulose do not differentiate between different positions of the oxygen atoms. Here, we propose a refinement to tree-cellulose paleoclimatology modeling, using the cellulose-derived compound phenylglucosazone as the isotopic substrate. Stem samples from trees were collected at northern latitudes as low as 24°37′N and as high as 69°00′N. We extracted stem water and cellulose from each stem sample and analyzed them for their 18O content. In addition, we derived the cellulose to phenylglucosazone, a compound which lacks the oxygen attached to the second carbon of the cellulose-glucose moieties. Oxygen isotope analysis of phenylglucosazone allowed us to calculate the 18O content of the oxygen attached to the second carbon of the cellulose-glucose moieties. By way of these analyses, we tested two hypotheses: first, that the 18O content of the oxygen attached to second carbon will more closely reflect the 18O content of the stem water, and will not resemble the 18O content of either cellulose or its derivative phenylglucosazone. Second, tree-ring models that incorporate the variable oxygen isotope fractionation shown here and elsewhere are more accurate than those that do not. Our first hypothesis was rejected on the basis that the oxygen isotope ratios of the oxygen attached to the second carbon of the glucose moieties had a noisy isotopic signal with a large standard deviation and gave the poorest correlation with the oxygen isotope ratios of stem water. Related to this isotopic noise, we observed that the correlation between oxygen isotope ratios of phenylglucosazone with both stem water and relative humidity were higher than those observed for cellulose. Our hypothesis about tree-ring models which account for changes in the oxygen isotopic fractionation during cellulose synthesis was consistent only for the 18O content of phenylglucosazone. We showed that the tree-ring model based on the 18O content of phenylglucosazone was an improvement over existing models that are based on whole cellulose. Additionally, this approach may be used in other cellulose based archives such as peat deposits and lacustrine sediments.  相似文献
