GOCE gravitational gradients along the orbit   总被引:3,自引:3,他引:3  
GOCE is ESA’s gravity field mission and the first satellite ever that measures gravitational gradients in space, that is, the second spatial derivatives of the Earth’s gravitational potential. The goal is to determine the Earth’s mean gravitational field with unprecedented accuracy at spatial resolutions down to 100 km. GOCE carries a gravity gradiometer that allows deriving the gravitational gradients with very high precision to achieve this goal. There are two types of GOCE Level 2 gravitational gradients (GGs) along the orbit: the gravitational gradients in the gradiometer reference frame (GRF) and the gravitational gradients in the local north oriented frame (LNOF) derived from the GGs in the GRF by point-wise rotation. Because the V XX , V YY , V ZZ and V XZ are much more accurate than V XY and V YZ , and because the error of the accurate GGs increases for low frequencies, the rotation requires that part of the measured GG signal is replaced by model signal. However, the actual quality of the gradients in GRF and LNOF needs to be assessed. We analysed the outliers in the GGs, validated the GGs in the GRF using independent gravity field information and compared their assessed error with the requirements. In addition, we compared the GGs in the LNOF with state-of-the-art global gravity field models and determined the model contribution to the rotated GGs. We found that the percentage of detected outliers is below 0.1% for all GGs, and external gravity data confirm that the GG scale factors do not differ from one down to the 10−3 level. Furthermore, we found that the error of V XX and V YY is approximately at the level of the requirement on the gravitational gradient trace, whereas the V ZZ error is a factor of 2–3 above the requirement for higher frequencies. We show that the model contribution in the rotated GGs is 2–35% dependent on the gravitational gradient. Finally, we found that GOCE gravitational gradients and gradients derived from EIGEN-5C and EGM2008 are consistent over the oceans, but that over the continents the consistency may be less, especially in areas with poor terrestrial gravity data. All in all, our analyses show that the quality of the GOCE gravitational gradients is good and that with this type of data valuable new gravity field information is obtained.  相似文献

Oyster reefs provide structural habitat for resident crabs and fishes, most of which have planktonic larvae that are dependent upon transport/retention processes for successful settlement. High rates of freshwater inflow have the potential to disrupt these processes, creating spatial gaps between larval distribution and settlement habitat. To investigate whether inflow can impact subsequent recruitment to oyster reefs, densities of crab larvae and post-settlement juveniles and adults were compared in Estero Bay, Florida, over 22 months (2005–2006). Three species were selected for comparison: Petrolisthes armatus, Eurypanopeus depressus, and Rhithropanopeus harrisii. All are important members of oyster reef communities in Southwest Florida; all exhibit protracted spawning, with larvae present throughout the year; and each is distributed unevenly on reefs in different salinity regimes. Recruitment to oyster reefs was positively correlated with bay-wide larval supply at all five reefs examined. Species-specific larval connectivity to settlement sites was altered by inflow: where connectivity was enhanced by increased inflow, stock–recruitment curves were linear; where connectivity was reduced by high inflows, stock–recruitment curves were asymptotic at higher larval densities. Maximum recruit density varied by an order of magnitude among reefs. Although live oyster density was a good indicator of habitat quality in regard to crab density, it did not account for the high variability in recruit densities. Variation in recruit density at higher levels of larval supply may primarily be caused by inflow-induced variation in larval connectivity, creating an abiotic simulation of what has widely been regarded as density dependence in stock–recruitment curves.  相似文献

Strain was estimated in a fold of Cambrian interlayered siltstones and pelites by determining the preferred orientation of chlorite grains with an X-ray goniometer. Strains so obtained and the postulate that continuity be preserved allowed unfolding of the fold and the determination of rigid body rotations that accompanied the strain. Petrologic investigation showed no sign of major differential volume changes in the siltstones, and this in conjunction with measured strains led to the conclusion that one of the silty layers making up the fold was not, originally, a bed of uniform thickness but a lenticular body, probably representing a single ripple on a ripple-marked tidal flat.Unfolding by piecemeal fitting of unstrained domains shows that none of the principal axes of strain lie consistently parallel to or at right angles to the fold axis. Rock material was displaced with components orthogonal to the profile plane as well as parallel to it. Strain due to compaction during an early history of increasing sediment overburden cannot be separated from strain during tectonic deformation. Its influence is most clearly seen in differential volume change between siltstones and pelites. Additional differential volume changes within pelite beds could have occurred at any time of the deformational history.A comparison of the orientation of strain and rotation axes in the two limbs of the fold, and also comparison of the same orientations in Eulerian coordinates (Cartesian coordinates in the observed fold) and in Lagrangean coordinates (Cartesian in the unfolded fold) make it probable that episodes of relatively uniform strain both preceded and followed the buckling episode that produced the sharp hinge in the competent silt-stone. The siltstone may have been less indurated and thus no more competent than the pelite during early deformation.  相似文献

The Archaean block of southern Greenland constitutes the core of the North Atlantic craton (NAC) and is host to a large number of Precambrian mafic intrusions and dyke swarms, many of which are regionally extensive but poorly dated. For southern West Greenland, we present a U–Pb zircon age of 2990 ± 13 Ma for the Amikoq mafic–ultramafic layered intrusion (Fiskefjord area) and four baddeleyite U–Pb ages of Precambrian dolerite dykes. Specifically, a dyke located SE of Ameralik Fjord is dated at 2499 ± 2 Ma, similar to a previously reported 40Ar/39Ar age of a dyke in the Kangâmiut area. For these and related intrusions of ca. 2.5 Ga age in southern West Greenland, we propose the name Kilaarsarfik dykes. Three WNW-trending dykes of the MD3 swarm yield ages of 2050 ± 2 Ma, 2041 ± 3 Ma and 2029 ± 3 Ma. A similar U–Pb baddeleyite age of 2045 ± 2 Ma is also presented for a SE-trending dolerite (Iglusuataliksuak dyke) in the Nain Province, the rifted western block of the NAC in Labrador. We speculate that the MD3 dykes and age-equivalent NNE-trending Kangâmiut dykes of southern West Greenland, together with the Iglusuataliksuak dyke (after closure of the Labrador Sea) represent components of a single, areally extensive, radiating swarm that signaled the arrival of a mantle plume centred on what is presently the western margin of the North Atlantic craton. Comparison of the magmatic ‘barcodes’ from the Nain and Greenland portions of the North Atlantic craton with the established record from the north-eastern Superior craton shows matches at 2500 Ma, 2214 Ma, 2050–2030 Ma and 1960–1950 Ma. We use these new age constraints, together with orientations of the dyke swarms, to offer a preliminary reconstruction of the North Atlantic craton near the north-eastern margin of the Superior craton during the latest Archaean and early Palaeoproterozoic, possibly with the Core Zone craton of eastern Canada intervening.  相似文献

By comparison with the general features of metamorphic soles (e.g. vertical and lateral extension, metamorphic grade and diagnostic mineral parageneses, deformation and dominant rock types), it is inferred that the amphibolites, metagabbros and hornblendites of the Wadi Um Ghalaga–Wadi Haimur area in the southern part of the Eastern Desert of Egypt represent the metamorphic sole of the Wadi Haimur ophiolite belt. The overlying ultramafic rocks represent overthrusted mantle peridotite. Mineral compositions and thermobarometric studies indicate that the rocks of the metamorphic sole record metamorphic conditions typical of such an environment. The highest P – T conditions ( c . 700 °C and 6.5–8.5 kbar) are preserved in clinopyroxene amphibolites and garnet amphibolites from the top of the metamorphic sole, which is exposed in the southern part of the study area. The massive amphibolites and metagabbros further north (Wadi Haimur) represent the basal parts of the sole and show the lowest P – T  conditions (450–620 °C and 4.7–7.8 kbar). The sole is the product of dynamothermal metamorphism associated with the tectonic displacement of ultramafic rocks. Heat was derived mainly from the hot overlying mantle peridotites, and an inverted P – T  gradient was caused by dynamic shearing during ophiolite emplacement. Sm/Nd dating of whole-rock–metamorphic mineral pairs yields similar ages of c . 630 Ma for clinopyroxene and hornblende, which is interpreted as a lower age limit for ophiolite formation and an upper age limit for metamorphism. A younger Sm/Nd age for a garnet-bearing rock ( c . 590 Ma) is interpreted as reflecting a meaningful cooling age close to the metamorphic peak. Hornblende K/Ar ages in the range 570–550 Ma may reflect thermal events during late orogenic granite magmatism.  相似文献

REE compositions of nine partially serpentinized Iherzolitic rocks from Liguria have been investigated: eight samples are from the Erro-Tobbio thrust sheet of the Gruppo di Voltri (western Liguria); one sample is from an allochthonous eastern Liguria mass within the External Ligurides. As previously described (Ernst and Piccardo, 1979, Geochim. Cosmochim. Acta43, 219–237), all specimens are spinel (±plagioclase) Iherzolites. They possess major element bulk rock chemistries which are more or less ‘primitive’ or only slightly depleted compared to estimated upper mantle compositions. Mineral chemistries, varying insignificantly from rock to rock, evidently reflect mantle equilibration in the range 1000–1150°C and 14–16 kbar; pervasive retrograde effects testify to later decompression at shallower levels characterized by temperatures exceeding a typical intraplate oceanic geothermal gradient.The investigated lherzolitic samples show concordant REE patterns, LREE-depleted with respect to chondrites. A wide range in values is observed among the LREE: the observed depletion of LREE in most of the samples is accompanied by a Ce-negative anomaly. Inasmuch as the analyzed samples have been affected to a variable extent by serpentinization, REE mobility during hydrous alteration is treated employing both a theoretical approach and natural evidence.Effects of partial melting prior to serpentinization (resulting chiefly in depletion in LREE) can be rationalized by postulating a two-times chondritic REE abundance in the original unaltered peridotitic material and by considering the HREE contents to have been unaffected by hydrous alteration. When comparison is made with REE compositions for residual material after different degrees of partial melting (computed using an equilibrium, non-modal partial melting model and selected REE partition values), the analyzed Ligurian samples show effects of incipient melting on only a small scale, i.e. 1–5%. Judging from their major and REE compositions, the investigated lherzolites cannot have produced substantial amounts of tholeiitic melt, hence they cannot have provided the primary magmas for the oceanic crustal sequences so widespread within the Northern Apennine and Gruppo di Voltri ophiolitic terranes.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Die früheren Angaben über die Pyroxenführung, besonders über den Gehalt an rhombischem Pyroxen, wurden in den Basalten der südwestlichen Ausläufer des Vogelsberges überprüft. Es kann in Abhängigkeit vom SiO2-Gehalt dieser Gesteine eine Beziehung über die Zusammensetzung der Basalte und die Art der auftretenden Pyroxene aufgestellt werden. Vereinfacht ergibt sich, daß die Olivinbasalte keinen rhombischen Pyroxen in der Grundmasse führen - abgesehen von den Olivinknollen - und die Gesteine mit Bronzitführung dem gabbrodioritischen bzw. dioritischen Magmentyp angehören. Daneben kommt Pigeonit in weiter Verbreitung vor. Diese Befunde unterstützen die Auffassung, daß die Olivinknollen der Basalte Reste von assimilierten Peridotiten sind. die dem basaltischen primären Magma zugefügt werden. Dadurch wird ein Hinweis auf den Ort der Bildung der basaltischen Magmen gegeben.  相似文献
