Stream temperature is an important property of water and affects most other water quality constituents. It is also a property which is very much influenced by exogenous factors like air temperature and stream flow. This study investigates long‐term trends in stream temperatures measured at various stream monitoring stations in Turkey to better understand links with climate change. It was found by statistical trend analysis that more streams have experienced decreasing trends than increasing ones. Moreover, stream temperatures show a rising tendency in most stations over Turkey. Flow‐adjusted temperatures were computed to eliminate flow dependency and these show more positive than negative trends. Management plans of streams and watersheds need to take this into account and incorporate the implications into plans. 相似文献
Izmir Bay is one of the most polluted estuaries in the whole Mediterranean Sea. The inner part of the Bay (Inner Bay) is heavily
affected by domestic and industrial discharge. As a result of these loads, strong eutrophication occurs in the Inner Bay,
which is temporally anaerobic. The ecologically sensitive approach of the local authorities during the last decade has given
rise to a wide variety of monitoring and research studies on this bay. On the other hand, the municipality of Izmir started
to operate wastewater treatment facilities since January 2000. The Institute of Marine Sciences and Technology — Izmir (IMST)
with its research vessel R/V K Piri Reis has been conducting an intensive monitoring program since 1988 and especially during
the recent few years. These investigations provide an opportunity for the evaluation of the performance of the wastewater
treatment plant in terms of the change in the optical properties of Izmir Bay water in a positive manner. The turbidity values
measured in these monitoring studies indicate that the values have changed drastically after January 2000. Their spatial variation
indicates that the values decrease from the Inner Bay towards the Aegean Sea. The turbidity (light transmission) values are
measured with an automatic CTD (conductivity, temperature and depth) system during each cruise. The seiche disc depth measurement
is carried out only occasionally. The accuracy of the seiche disc depth is dependent on certain daylight conditions and depends
on the operator. The seiche disc depth (Ds) is an important parameter to estimate primary production of organic matter (hereafter called production). A relation between
light transmission (turbidity) value and seiche disc depth (Ds) is found with very good agreement. The correlations are very high (approximately 0.94) with slight seasonal variation. 相似文献
The thermal strati?cation of the lakes impedes the transfer of atmospheric oxygen into the lower layers of the lake. In lakes which are af fected by diverse anthropogenic in?uences, the increasing organic matter amounts lead to a sharp decrease in hypolimnetic oxygen amounts, aided by thermal strati?cation, and anaerobic conditions arise. The determination of hypolimnetic oxygen demand(HOD) and areal hypolimnetic oxygen demand(AHOD) and their monitoring represent an integrated approach to investigate the oxygenation of lakes, the nutrient conditions, and the physicochemical dynamics. In this study, two lakes dif fering by size and af fected by dif ferent anthropogenic sources, are investigated in this respect. At?rst, bathymetric studies were conducted to determine the depth, surface area, and volume relationships. Then, based on monitoring studies conducted in 2013 and 2014, the thermal strati?cation dynamics and layer properties were established using the relative thermal resistance to mixing(RTRM) index based on temperature and density pro?les. Following this, the oxygen depletion rates were determined by oxygen and temperature pro?ling in the hypolimnion. For the years of 2013 and 2014, the AHOD values for the Borabey Pond which is far from anthropogenic in?uences, were found to be 0.848 and 0.569 g O 2/(m·d), respectively. The AHOD values for the Porsuk Reservoir which was overburdened for years by industrial and domestic pollution were found to be 4.263 and 5.099 g O 2/(m·d), larger than its counterpart by almost sevenfold. The HOD and AHOD monitoring can be considered to a valuable tool for assessing the ecological and chemical status of lakes within Annex 5 of the Water Framework Directive and as an integrated approach to assess and monitor the status of lakes. 相似文献
Time series analysis is an important issue in the earth science-related engineering applications such as hydrology, meteorology
and environmetrics. Inconsistency and nonhomogeneity that might arise in a time series yield segments with different statistical
characteristics. In this study, an algorithm based on the first order statistical moment (average) of a time series is developed
and applied on five time series with length ranging from 84 items to nearly 1,300. Comparison to the existing segmentation
algorithms proves the applicability and usefulness of the proposed algorithm in long hydrometeorological and geophysical time
series analysis. 相似文献
The Genç District is located on the Bingöl Seismic Gap (BSG) of the Eastern Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ) with its?~?34.000 residents. The Karl?ova Triple Junction, where the EAFZ, the North Anatolian Fault Zone, and the Varto Fault Zone meet, is only 80 km NE of the Genç District. To make an earthquake disaster damage prediction of the Genç District, carrying a high risk of disaster, we have (1) prepared a new geological map, and (2) conducted a single-station microtremor survey. We defined that three SW-NE trending active faults of the sinistral Genç Fault Zone are cutting through the District. We have obtained dominant period (T) as?<?0.2 s, the amplification factor (A) between 8 and 10, the average shear wave velocity for the first 30 m (Vs30) as?<?300 m/s, and the seismic vulnerability index (Kg) as?>?20, in the central part of the Genç District. We have also prepared damage prediction maps for three bedrock acceleration values (0.25, 0.50, 0.75 g). Our earthquake damage prediction scenarios evidenced that as the bedrock acceleration values increase, the area of soil plastic behavior expands linearly. Here we report that if the average expected peak ground acceleration value (0.55–0.625 g) is exceeded during an earthquake, significant damage would be inevitable for the central part of the Genç District where most of the schools, mosques, public buildings, and hospitals are settled-down.

The Kop ophiolite in NE Turkey is a fragment of Neo-Tethyan forearc. It can be mainly divided into a paleo-Moho transition zone(MTZ)in the North and a harzburgitic mantle sequence in the South.Dunites are predominant in the MTZ of the Kop ophiolite, and they are locally interlayered with chromitites and enclose minor bodies of harzburgites near the petrological Moho boundary.Large Fe isotopic variations were observed for magnesiochromite(-0.14‰to 0.06‰)and olivine(-0.12‰to 0.14‰)from the MTZ chromitites, dunites and harzburgites. In individual dunite samples, magnesiochromite usually has lighter Fe isotopic compositions than olivine, which was probably caused by subsolidus Mg-Fe exchange between the two mineral phases. Both magnesiochromite and olivine display an increasing trend ofδ56Fe along a profile from chromitite todunite. This trend reflects continuous fractional crystallization in a magma chamber, which resulted in heavier Fe isotopes concentrated in the evolved magmas. In each cumulative cycle of chromitite and dunite, dunite was formed from relatively evolved melts after massive precipitation of magnesiochromite.Mixing of more primitive and evolved melts in the magma chamber was a potential mechanism for triggering the crystallization of magnesiochromite, generating chromitite layers in the cumulate pile. Before mixing happened, the primitive melts had reacted with mantle harzburgites during their ascendance;whereas the evolved melts may lie on the olivine-chromite cotectic near the liquidus field of pyroxene.Variable degrees of magma mixing and differentiation are expected to generate melts with differentδ56Fe values, accounting for the Fe isotopic variations of the Kop MTZ. 相似文献
