ABSTRACTThe aim of this paper is to estimate the effect that climate change will have on groundwater recharge at the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. The groundwater recharge is calculated from a monthly water balance model considering eight methods of potential and actual evapotranspiration. Historical data from 1961–2000 and climate model outputs from five downscaled general circulation models in the near horizon (2015–2039), with representative concentration pathway (RCP) 4.5 and 8.5 are used. The results estimate a recharge of 118 ± 33 mm·year–1 (around 10% of precipitation) in the historical period. Considering the uncertainty from GCMs under different RCP and evapotranspiration scenarios, our monthly water balance model estimates a groundwater recharge of 92 ± 40 mm·year–1 (RCP4.5) and 94 ± 38 mm·year–1 (RCP8.5) which represent a reduction of 23% and 20%, respectively, a result that threatens the socio-ecological balance of the region. 相似文献

Because of rapid forcing by varying cloud and sky conditions, turbulence time series collected in the atmospheric surface
layer over land may often be nonstationary. The meteorological community, however, has no consensus definition of what nonstationarity
is and, thus, no consensus method for how to identify it. This study, therefore, adopts definitions for first-order and second-order
stationarity taken from the time series analysis literature and implements new analysis techniques and probabilistic tests
to quantify first-order and second-order nonstationarity. First-order nonstationarity manifests as a change in the series
mean; second-order nonstationarity, as a change in the variance. The analysis identifies nonstationarity in surface-level
turbulent temperature and water vapour series collected during two sample days with solar forcing influenced by cirrus and
cirrostratus clouds, but that nonstationarity is not as severe as expected despite the rapid thermal forcing by these clouds.
On the other hand, even with negligible cloud forcing, both sample days exhibited severe nonstationarity at night. 相似文献

We present a numerical scheme for the evolution of an accretion disc through a dwarf nova outburst. We introduce a time-varying artificial viscosity into an existing smoothed particle hydrodynamics code optimized for two- and three-dimensional simulations of accretion discs. The technique gives rise to coherent outbursts and can easily be adapted to include a complete treatment of thermodynamics. We apply a two-dimensional isothermal scheme to the system SS Cygni, and present a wide range of observationally testable results. 相似文献

The solubility of Tio2 in phlogopites has been experimentally determined in the system K2Mg6Al2Si6O20(OH)4-K2Mg4TiAl2Si6O20(OH)4-K2Mg5TiAl4Si4O20(OH)4 between 825–1300°C and 10–30 kbar under vapour absent conditions. Starting compositions lie along the join K2Mg6Al2Si6O20(OH)4-K2Mg4.5TiAl3Si5O20(OH)4 which represents a combination of the Mg[VI]2Si[IV] = Ti[VI]2Al[VI] and substitution mechanisms for Ti in phlogopites. The results of the experiments indicate a systematic increase in solubility of Ti with increasing temperature and decreasing pressure for given bulk Tio2 content. Under isobaric conditions high temperature Ti-saturated phlogopite breaks down to Ti-deficient phlogopite + rutile + vapour. Mass balance calculations suggest that the vapour phase may contain K2O dissolved in H2O and that the reaction is controlled by the vapour phase. Analyses of phlogopites coexisting with rutile and vapour can be represented in terms of the end-member components phlogopite [K2Mg6Al2Si6O20(OH)4], eastonite [K2Mg5Al4Si5O20(OH)4], an octahedral site deficient Ti-phlogopite (Ti-OSD) of composition K2(Mg4Ti□)Al2Si6)O20(OH)4, and Ti-eastonite [K2Mg5TiAl4Si4O20(OH)4]. With decreasing amounts of Ti in these phlogopites there is a decrease in the Ti-eastonite component and increase in the eastonite component.The general equation for the breakdown of Ti-phlogopite solid solution to Ti-free phlogopite + rutile + vapour is: 14 Ti-eastonite + 7 Ti-OSD ? 16 eastonite + 3 phlogopite + 21 rutile + 4 H2O + 2 K2O. Lack of knowledge of H2O and K2O activities in the vapour phase does not permit evaluation of thermodynamic constants for this reaction. The Ti solubility in phlogopites and hence its potential as a geothermobarometer under lower crustal to upper mantle conditions is likely controlled by common mantle minerals such as forsterite. 相似文献

A mixing model for high structural state ternary feldspars in the NaAlSi3O8–KAlSi3O8–CaAl2Si2O8 system is presented based exclusively on calorimetric and volumetric measurements. Comparisons with existing mixing models,
which are based on phase-equilibrium experiments, reveal distinct differences. The incorporation of K into Ca-rich plagioclase
and of Ca into K-rich alkali feldspar is more strongly limited by our calorimetry-based model, whereas the stability field
of Na-rich feldspars is broadened. Natural feldspar assemblages from well-studied magmatic and high-grade metamorphic rocks
(i.e. a teschenite sill in Scotland, the Klokken syenogabbro in Greenland, and a granulite-facies metapelite in Sri Lanka)
were used to test the mixing models. It was found that the new model largely eliminates discrepancies between observed and
predicted feldspar compositions that were present in earlier attempts. The reasons for the problems associated with phase-equilibrium

Abstract Small amplitude two-dimensional Boussinesq convection in a plane layer with stress-free boundaries rotating uniformly about the vertical is studied. A horizontally unbounded layer is modelled by periodic boundary conditions. When the centrifugal force is balanced by an appropriate pressure gradient the resulting equations are translation invariant, and overstable convection can take the form of travelling waves. In the Prandtl number regime 0.53 < [sgrave] < 0.68 such solutions are preferred over the more usual standing waves. We consider the minimum mass planet, as a function of radius, that is capable of opening a gap in an α-accretion disc. We estimate that a half-Jupiter mass planet can open a gap in a disc with accretion rate for viscosity parameter α= 0.01 , and solar mass and luminosity. The minimum mass is approximately proportional to . This estimate can be used to rule out the presence of massive planets in gapless accretion discs. We identify two radii at which an inwardly migrating planet may become able to open a gap and so slow its migration; the radius at which the heating from viscous dissipation is similar to that from stellar radiation in a flared disc, and the radius at which the disc becomes optically thin in a self-shadowed disc. In the inner portions of the disc, we find that the minimum planet mass required to open a gap is only weakly dependent on radius. If a migrating planet is unable to open a gap by the time it reaches either of the transition radii, then it is likely to be lost on to the star. If a gap-opening planet cuts off disc accretion allowing the formation of a central hole or clearing in the disc then we would estimate that the clearing radius would approximately be proportional to the stellar mass. 相似文献
