The Willowbar, Oklahoma meteorite was found by Kendall Rhoton in December, 1971, lat 36° 44′ N.; long 102° 12′ W. It is a shocked brecciated L6 chondrite (Fa-24.3) with large black veins cutting areas of normal chondritic texture. It weighed 2.07 kg. 相似文献

Physical and chemical constraints for such different planetary objects as the Earth, the Moon and meteorite parent bodies can best be satisfied by thermal history models having high initial temperatures. On the basis of thermal calculations it is suggested that the evolution of the other terrestrial planets (Mars, Venus and Mercury) was also characterized by high initial temperatures. Under these conditions, melting and, consequently, fractionation would set in at an early stage. A modified periodic orbit of the third kind is introduced that is closely related to periodic orbits of the third kind as defined by Poincaré. It is shown that Pluto librates about the periodic orbit with apparent stability. This further explains the librational motion of the resonant argument of Pluto and the avoidance of a Pluto-Neptune close approach as found by Cohen and Hubbard and the long-term motion of Pluto and the librational motion of the perihelion as found by Williams and Benson. With libration about a periodic orbit, the numerical solution of Williams and Benson can be extrapolated to longer times in the past and future. 相似文献

The time dependences of the inertia tensor and of a dissipative torque caused by the nonleptonic weak interaction have been investigated for a certain class of pulsars with no solid core. Early in the life of the pulsar, the angular velocity vector is predicted to move with respect to fixed body axes in such a way that it becomes perpendicular to the magnetic dipole moment. During this motion, the solid outer shell suffers plastic deformation so that the dipole moment becomes approximately collinear with a principal axis. After 104 or 105 yr, the dissipative torque is negligibly small compared with the electromagnetic torque, the Euler equations are those for a simple rigid body, and alignment of spin and dipole moment occurs. If the dipole moment discussed by Lyneet al. (1975) is interpreted as being equal to the component perpendicular to the spin, its secular decay is a natural property of this model and is not a consequence of field decay through electrical resistivity. 相似文献

Fusion crusts form during the atmospheric entry heating of meteorites and preserve a record of the conditions that occurred during deceleration in the atmosphere. The fusion crust of the Winchcombe meteorite closely resembles that of other stony meteorites, and in particular CM2 chondrites, since it is dominated by olivine phenocrysts set in a glassy mesostasis with magnetite, and is highly vesicular. Dehydration cracks are unusually abundant in Winchcombe. Failure of this weak layer is an additional ablation mechanism to produce large numbers of particles during deceleration, consistent with the observation of pulses of plasma in videos of the Winchcombe fireball. Calving events might provide an observable phenomenon related to meteorites that are particularly susceptible to dehydration. Oscillatory zoning is observed within olivine phenocrysts in the fusion crust, in contrast to other meteorites, perhaps owing to temperature fluctuations resulting from calving events. Magnetite monolayers are found in the crust, and have also not been previously reported, and form discontinuous strata. These features grade into magnetite rims formed on the external surface of the crust and suggest the trapping of surface magnetite by collapse of melt. Magnetite monolayers may be a feature of meteorites that undergo significant degassing. Silicate warts with dendritic textures were observed and are suggested to be droplets ablated from another stone in the shower. They, therefore, represent the first evidence for intershower transfer of ablation materials and are consistent with the other evidence in the Winchcombe meteorite for unusually intense gas loss and ablation, despite its low entry velocity. 相似文献

New theoretical emission line ratios for the Be-sequence ions Mgix and Sixi are presented. A comparison with observational data for two solar flares and an active region loop obtained with the Harvard EUV spectrometer and NRL XUV spectroheliograph aboard Skylab reveals that these plasmas are in ionization equilibrium at coronal temperatures. The factors which affect fusion and evaporation of ice under a variety of Martian surface conditions are examined. It is found that a frost or ice deposit will pass through a transient liquid phase in temperate latitudes during summer, if the ice is partly or wholly dust covered. The barrier to free gaseous diffusion which the surface material presents is, under favorable (and definable) conditions, more than adequate to force the water to remain in the liquid state until its evaporation is complete. Furthermore, for a realistic range of regolith particle sizes and porosities, and depths of burial of the ice, the lifetime of the ice can be considerably longer than the duration of a single diurnal warming cycle. Current knowledge of the seosonal and diurnal behavior of the atmospheric vapor is summarized and discussed as it relates to the availability of surface ice at temperate latitudes. 相似文献

The continuum energy distribution of the emission line star X Per (O9.5III-V) has been obtained in the wavelength range 340–710 nm and has been compared with the energy distribution of Cam in the same wavelength range.
