New three-filter light curves of AG Per are given. These yield times of minimum light in accord with the known rate of apsidal rotation but do not improve that rate. Rockfalls into forests: Analysis and simulation of rockfall trajectories — considerations with respect to mountainous forests in Switzerland 总被引:3,自引:1,他引:2
Rockfalls are a major threat to settlements and transportation routes in many places. Although the general protective effect of forests against rockfalls is currently not questioned, little is known about the ideal properties of a forest stand that provides good protection. Therefore, in this study the question was assessed of how mountainous forests may influence rockfalls of single boulders. An actual rockfall trajectory was measured, recorded, analysed and simulated with a rockfall model. Rockfalls into different forest scenarios were also modelled for the site. Results showed that the actual rockfall event can be well simulated. Furthermore, a completely forested slope reduces velocity and energy of the falling blocks much better than a sparsely forested slope. For the profile discussed in this paper, the largest effect upon falling 3 m3 blocks was obtained with a high forest containing 350 trees per ha. Zusammenfassung. Beim Bau des neuen AlpTransit Lötschberg Basistunnels wurden unter murgangartig verschwemmten Ablagerungen der alten Bergsturzmasse des Kandertals Stillwasserablagerungen mit zahlreichen organischen Resten und Torflagen gefunden. Die 14C-datierten Resultate der Pollen, Makrorest-, Holz- und Holzkohleanalysen ermöglichten eine Rekonstruktion der lokalen bis regionalen Umweltgeschichte. Ein Gewässer, vermutlich ein kleiner See, begann beim Tellenfeld in Frutigen um 8800 kal. Jahre v. Chr. zu verlanden. In der näheren Umgebung wuchs von 8800 v. Chr. bis 8000 v. Chr. ein Föhrenwald (Pinus silvestris), der reichlich mit Hasel (Corylus avellana) und anderen wärmeliebenden Gehölzen (Ulmen, Linden, Eichen; Ulmus, Tilia, Quercus) und Birken (Betula) durchsetzt war. Diese für die Nordalpen sehr frühe Bedeutung der Hasel ist durch 14C-datierte Corylus-Nussfragmente (9310±50 14C BP, 8722–8337 v. Chr.) belegt. Nach 8500 v. Chr. drängte die Hasel die Waldföhre allmählich zurück. Auf Grund der paläoökologischen Resultate muss angenommen werden, dass die Wälder um 7600 v. Chr. durch ein katastrophales Ereignis stark gestört wurden. Als Reaktion darauf kam es zu einer starken Zunahme der Waldbrände und es breiteten sich zuerst Farne und Gräser sowie wenig später Waldföhren aus. Das Gewässer wurde um 7100 v. Chr. durch verschwemmtes Bergsturzmaterial zerstört. Der geomorphologische Befund deutet darauf hin, dass diese Ereignisse in engem Zusammenhang mit dem Hauptbergsturz im Kandertal stehen, der aussergewöhnliche Ausmasse hatte (ca. 800 Millionen m3). Die Zerstörung der lokalen ökosysteme als Folge des Bergsturzes um 7600–7100 v. Chr. fiel in ein frühes holozänes Wärme- und Sonneneinstrahlungsmaximum, in dem es, wie vorgängige Untersuchungen in den Alpen und in anderen Gebirgen belegen, zu überdurchschnittlich vielen Hanginstabilitäten kam.
During the construction of the new AlpTransit railway line wetland sediments containing numerous fossils and peat layers were found below rockfall masses transported by debris flows. Radiocarbon-dated results of pollen, macrofossils, wood, and charcoal along with radiocarbon dating analysis were used to reconstruct the environmental history of the site. The wetland, originally probably a small lake, started to accumulate sediments at about 8800 cal. yr BC at Frutigen Tellenfeld. A pine forest (Pinus silvestris) admixed with hazel (Corylus avellana), other thermophilous arboreal taxa (Ulmus, Tilia, Quercus) and birch (Betula) grew in the surroundings of the lake. This very early importance of hazel is documented by 14C-dated Corylus nut fragments (9310±50 14C yr BP, 8722–8337 yr BC). After 8500 BC hazel expanded on the costs of pine. The palaeo records suggest that the forests were severely disturbed by a catastrophic event at around 7600 BC. In response, forest fires strongly increased and ferns and grasses expanded and then pine stands established. At ca. 7100 BC the lake was abruptly destroyed by rockfall masses transported by a debris flow. The geomorphic situation suggests that these events were closely related with the main Kander valley rockfall, which had an exceptional size (800 millions m3). Local environmental catastrophes as a consequence of the rockfall at 7600–7100 BC occurred during an early Holocene thermal and solar irradiation maximum. As documented by previous investigations, this period was characterised by pronounced slope instabilities in the Alps and elsewhere.

Franz and Lucassen (2000) rise several important points, which are primarily related to the Puncoviscana belt role in northwestern Argentina. Their discussion consisted of three major overviews: (a) the Puncoviscana belt evolution related to the Proterozoic Rodinia fragmentation; (b) the geochemical data associated with volcanic rock interlayered in the Puncoviscana formation and (c) the central Andes residual gravity field interpretations. It will be shown in this reply that their claim against our interpretation is the consequence of an equivocal handling of the geological times, the tectonic episodes and the associated lithologies in the wide context of the Puncoviscana belt type paleogeographic connections. Some present geochronological data oldest that 1.1 to 0.9 Ga. are consistent with an autochthonous basement integrated by very ancient protoliths adjoins to the typical Grenville belt rocks before the Rodinia fragmentation. The autochthonous condition must be interpreted only as the Rodinia supercontinental reality, that after remains into the new Laurentia-Cabalonia-Pannotia continental units. In this context, the Theia, Candelaria, Iapetus and other proto-oceanic rifts begins an allochthonous reality for lot of the drifting crustal slivers during the Pannotian Cycle (Late Proterozoic - Early Paleozoic) in the break-up geotectonic times of the post-Rodinian supercontinent. The Puncoviscana geochemical interpretation presented in this reply shows an very clear plate tectonic evolution in various steps: (1) the proto-rift lineaments from the extensional regimen of the Candelaria triple point (tDM ~0.70 to 0.78 Ga.); (2) the passive continental margin sequences (700 to 600 Ma); and (3) the magmatic arc in the compressive regimen belonging to the Pampean orogeny (580 to 534 Ma). 相似文献

Although obvious in the field, the impact of road building on hydrology and gullying in Ethiopia has rarely been analysed. This study investigates how road building in the Ethiopian Highlands affects the gully erosion risk. The road between Makalle and Adwa in the highlands of Tigray (northern Ethiopia), built in 1993–1994, caused gullying at most of the culverts and other road drains. While damage by runoff to the road itself remains limited, off‐site effects are very important. Since the building of the road, nine new gullies were created immediately downslope of the studied road segment (6·5 km long) and seven other gullies at a distance between 100 and 500 m more downslope. The road induces a concentration of surface runoff, a diversion of concentrated runoff to other catchments, and an increase in catchment size, which are the main causes for gully development after road building. Topographic thresholds for gully formation are determined in terms of slope gradient of the soil surface at the gully head and catchment area. The influence of road building on both the variation of these thresholds and the modification of the drainage pattern is analysed. The slope gradient of the soil surface at the gully heads which were induced by the road varies between 0·06 and 0·42 m m?1 (average 0·15 m m?1), whereas gully heads without influence of the road have slope gradients between 0·09 and 0·52 m m?1 (average 0·25 m m?1). Road building disturbed the equilibrium in the study area but the lowering of topographic threshold values for gullying is not statistically significant. Increased gully erosion after road building has caused the loss of fertile soil and crop yield, a decrease of land holding size, and the creation of obstacles for tillage operations. Hence roads should be designed in a way that keeps runoff interception, concentration and deviation minimal. Techniques must be used to spread concentrated runoff in space and time and to increase its infiltration instead of directing it straight onto unprotected slopes. New high-resolution spectroscopic and medium-resolution spectropolarimetric data of the B[e] star HD 87643 are presented, complemented with optical broad- and narrow-band imaging. The spectrum of HD 87643 exhibits the hybrid characteristics well known to be representative of the group of B[e] stars; a fast wind with an expansion velocity in excess of 1000 km s−1 is measured in the hydrogen and helium lines, while a slower component is traced by lower excitation lines and forbidden lines. Clues to the geometry of the rapidly expanding circumstellar shell are provided by the startling polarization changes across Hα. Comparison with published schematic calculations indicates that the polarizing material is located in a slowly rotating, expanding disc structure. A hydrodynamical model is then presented, the results of which are consistent with the original two-wind concept for B[e] stars, and which exhibits kinematic properties that may well explain the observed spectral features in HD 87643. The model calculations use as input a B star undergoing mass loss, surrounded by an optically thick disc. The resulting configuration consists of a fast polar wind from the star and a slowly expanding disc wind. The model also predicts that the stellar wind at intermediate latitudes is slower and denser than in the polar region. 相似文献
