This article describes a novel approach for finding similar trajectories, using trajectory segmentation based on movement parameters (MPs) such as speed, acceleration, or direction. First, a segmentation technique is applied to decompose trajectories into a set of segments with homogeneous characteristics with respect to a particular MP. Each segment is assigned to a movement parameter class (MPC), representing the behavior of the MP. Accordingly, the segmentation procedure transforms a trajectory to a sequence of class labels, that is, a symbolic representation. A modified version of edit distance called normalized weighted edit distance (NWED) is introduced as a similarity measure between different sequences. As an application, we demonstrate how the method can be employed to cluster trajectories. The performance of the approach is assessed in two case studies using real movement datasets from two different application domains, namely, North Atlantic Hurricane trajectories and GPS tracks of couriers in London. Three different experiments have been conducted that respond to different facets of the proposed techniques and that compare our NWED measure to a related method.  相似文献

For years, severe rockburst problems at the Lucky Friday mine in northern Idaho have been a persistent safety hazard and an impediment to production. An MP250 based microseismic monitoring system, which uses simple voltage threshold picking of first arrivals, has been used in this mine since 1973 to provide source locations and energy estimates of seismic events. Recently, interest has been expressed in developing a whole waveform microseismic monitoring system for the mine to provide more accurate source locations and information about source characteristics. For this study, we have developed a prototype whole-waveform microseismic monitoring system based on a 80386 computer equipped with a 50 kHz analog-digital convertor board. The software developed includes a data collection program, a data analysis program, and an event detection program. Whole-waveform data collected and analyzed using this system during a three-day test have been employed to investigate sources of error in the hypocenter location process and to develop an automatic phase picker appropriate for microseismic events.Comparison of hypocenter estimates produced by the MP250 system to those produced by the whole-waveform system shows that significant timing errors are common in the MP250 system and that these errors caused a large part of the scatter evident in the daily activity plots produced at the mine. Simulations and analysis of blast data show that analytical control over the solutions is strongly influenced by the array geometry. Within the geophone array, large errors in the velocity model or moderate timing errors may result in small changes in the solution, but outside the array, the solution is very sensitive to small changes in the data.Our whole-waveform detection program picks event onset times and determines event durations by analysis of a segmented envelope function (SEF) derived from the microseismic signal. The detection program has been tested by comparing its arrival time picks to those generated by human analysis of the data set. The program picked 87% of the channels that were picked by hand with a standard error of 0.75 milliseconds. Source locations calculated using times provided by our entire waveform detection program were similar to those calculated using hand-picked arrival times. In particular, they show far less scatter than source locations calculated using arrival times based on simple voltage threshold picking of first arrivals.  相似文献

The skeletal banding observed in vertical cross-sections of two species of coral,Montastrea annularis from Jamaica andDiploria labrynthiformis from Bermuda, has been confirmed to be annual by ingrowth of228Th towards radioactive equilibrium with228Ra taken up from seawater. In addition the Bermuda coral is shown to have incorporated210Pb at essentially constant specific activity over at least the last thirty years.The individual annual patterns of growth banding in a suite of specimens ofD. Labrynthiformis from Bermuda are shown to be correlative. The mass of CaCO3 accumulated each year is positively correlated with the band width for the corresponding year.  相似文献

In this paper, we examine the development and implementation of new technical systems designed to more effectively manage and produce driving, drivers and driving spaces. These new systems change the governmentality of automobilities by altering the relationship between driver, vehicle and transport infrastructure and produce new subjects and spaces. They do this principally through the process of automation, creating a system of regulation that we term ‘automated management’. Automated management consists of two interlocking sets of regulatory technologies: automated surveillance that seeks to enforce more effective (self)disciplining and capture systems that actively reshape activity. We argue that these work together to alter the automobilities landscape creating new socio-spatial arrangements with respect to access, movement, flow, and behaviour. Some of these arrangements are benign and empowering to individuals, others enhance the power of state and corporations. We illustrate our argument with examples predominately drawn from the UK, though the technologies we discuss are increasingly being developed and implemented throughout Western countries and beyond.  相似文献

This paper documents and assesses emerging efforts to resist and subvert deep-seated and long-held governmental secrecy over geographical spaces of military/security activities and other sites deemed sensitive by the state. It explores tensions in new web-served mapping and high-resolution imagery of these sites, which view them though ‘pin holes’ of publicly available data. These ‘counter-mappings’ focus attention on the significance of sites that are either buried unnoticed in seamless global image coverage, or else censored on official mapping. Some reveal a tenaciously anti-hegemonic and oppositional discourse, others a more playful set of cultural practices, one that ridicules as much as directly resists. We situate these newly witnessed secret sites in contemporary visual culture, exploring the spectacular and Debordian possibilities of resistance that they offer, and evaluate the significance and ironies of these diverse imaging practices.  相似文献

The origin of δ13C variations within the skeletons of zooxanthellate scleractinian corals is still a matter of considerable debate. In particular, the role respired CO2 plays in controlling the eventual δ13C of the skeleton remains unclear. In this study, the temporal variability of the δ13C of respired CO2 produced by Montastraea faveolata has been measured at approximately monthly intervals over a 1-year period. In these experiments, three corals maintained on a platform at 8 m depth near Molasses Reef in the Florida Keys were incubated in closed chambers for 24-h periods and samples of the incubation water analyzed for the δ13C of the dissolved inorganic carbon (ΣCO2) at ∼3-h intervals. Throughout the incubation, the concentration of O2 was measured continuously within the chamber. Our results show that during daylight, the δ13C of the ΣCO2 in the incubation water becomes enriched in 13C as a result of fractionation during the fixation of C by photosynthesis, whereas at night the δ13C of the ΣCO2 becomes more negative. The δ13C of the respiratory CO2 ranges from −9‰ in the late spring to values as low as −17‰ in the autumn. The lighter values are significantly more negative than those reported by previous workers for coral tissue and zooxanthellae. An explanation for this discrepancy may be that the corals respire a significant proportion of isotopically negative substances, such as lipids, which are known to have values up to 10‰ lighter compared to the bulk δ13C of the tissue. The clear seasonal cycle in the δ13C of the respiratory CO2 suggests that there is also seasonal variability in either the δ13C of the coral tissue or the type and/or amount of organic material being respired. A similar temporal pattern and magnitude of change was observed in the δ13C of the coral tissue samples collected from a nearby reef at monthly intervals between 1995 and 1997. These patterns are similar in timing to the δ13C measured in the coral skeletons. We have also calculated an annual mean value for the fractionation factor between dissolved CO2 in the external environment and photosynthate fixed by the zooxanthellae of 1.0121 (±0.003). This value is inversely correlated with the ratio of photosynthesis to respiration (P/R) of the entire organism and shows the highest values during the summer months.  相似文献

There is long-standing scientific interest in understanding purposeful movement by animals and humans. Traditionally, collecting data on individual moving entities was difficult and time-consuming, limiting scientific progress. The growth of location-aware and other geospatial technologies for capturing, managing and analyzing moving objects data are shattering these limitations, leading to revolutions in animal movement ecology and human mobility science. Despite parallel transitions towards massive individual-level data collected automatically via sensors, there is little scientific cross-fertilization across the animal and human divide. There are potential synergies from converging these separate domains towards an integrated science of movement. This paper discusses the data-driven revolutions in the animal movement ecology and human mobility science, their contrasting worldviews and, as examples of complementarity, transdisciplinary questions that span both fields. We also identify research challenges that should be met to develop an integrated science of movement trajectories.  相似文献
