Trace element distribution in titanite overgrowths on rutile has been investigated experimentally at 600?°C, 400?MPa and fO2 near NiNiO buffer. Compositionally homogenous Cr- or Nb-doped synthetic rutile single crystals or Nb-containing natural rutile crystals were the source of Cr, Nb and Ti to synthesize titanite using the double-capsule technique. All element exchange with the source of Si, Ca and Al occurred via a NaCl–H2O fluid. Titanite forms quickly and exclusively around the rutile crystals. The titanite overgrowth separates rutile from the bulk fluid, and all elements from rutile dissolution have to pass through the titanite rim. Trace element concentrations in titanite show a considerable scatter in experiments with and without Al, although the average concentrations of Cr or Nb of titanite around compositionally homogeneous synthetic rutile approach the expected values for closed system conditions. Variability of Al with Cr or Nb in the titanite is not correlated. The Al zoning is irregular and patchy, and also the distribution of trace elements does not show systematic trends in the spatial distribution. In experiments using zoned natural rutile, the concentrations of Nb in titanite are related to the Nb zoning in rutile, but the contents also vary unsystematically. Under the controlled conditions of the experiment, the explanation for the strongly irregular spatial distribution is most likely due to variations in elemental concentrations during transport from the rutile along the titanite grain boundaries. The transport pathway is complex because grain boundary migration is important during titanite growth. Such irregular element distribution is also found in a natural sample of titanite overgrowth on rutile from an eclogite with retrograde overprint in the amphibolite facies. Transport of Ti and trace elements was focused on grain boundaries and shielded from the rutile as a source of these elements. We conclude that this type of zoning is not related to changes in P–T or composition in an open system, but solely controlled by transport in and through the titanite rim.  相似文献

From 14 deeps and other regions of the Red Sea totally 226 samples from 28 cores recovered during the VALDIVIA cruises (1971, 1972) were investigated according to their clay mineral content (<2μm resp. < 6.3 μm) after carbonate dissolution. Three facies groups are to distinguish:
  1. normal sediments: dominance of chlorite, kaolinite, illite, small amounts of smectite and sepiolite. Two palygorskite types are present only in a few samples.
  2. normal sediments with hydrothermal influence: clay mineral paragenesis similar like that of normal sediments; but increase of smectite and presence of goethite in each sample; partly small contents of talc.
  3. heavy metal deposits: dominance of iron-bearing smectite, partly with amorphous components resp. pure ore mineral assemblages with authigenic silicates (talc, quartz, opal, chrysotile, sepiolite, palygorskite, chlorite).
Crystallinity of the clay and ore minerals is independent from sedimentary overburden. Sepiolite shows in small amounts a wide distribution; palygorskite2 (d110=11.3 Å) yields locally an increased concentration in the range of pteropod layers cemented by aragonite. The environment of ore deposits is characterized by iron-bearing smectite besides the ore minerals.  相似文献

Studies combining sedimentological and biological evidence to reconstruct Holocene climate beyond the major changes, and especially seasonality, are rare in Europe, and are nearly completely absent in Germany. The present study tries to reconstruct changes of seasonality from evidence of annual algal successions within the framework of well-established pollen zonation and 14C-AMS dates from terrestrial plants. Laminated Holocene sediments in Lake Jues (10°20.7′ E, 51°39.3′ N, 241 m a.s.l.), located at the SW margin of the Harz Mountains, central Germany, were studied for sediment characteristics, pollen, diatoms and coccal green algae. An age model is based on 21 calibrated AMS radiocarbon dates from terrestrial plants. The sedimentary record covers the entire Holocene period. Trophic status and circulation/stagnation patterns of the lake were inferred from algal assemblages, the subannual structure of varves and the physico-chemical properties of the sediment. During the Holocene, mixing conditions alternated between di-, oligo- and meromictic depending on length and variability of spring and fall periods, and the stability of winter and summer weather. The trophic state was controlled by nutrient input, circulation patterns and the temperature-dependent rates of organic production and mineralization. Climate shifts, mainly in phase with those recorded from other European regions, are inferred from changing limnological conditions and terrestrial vegetation. Significant changes occurred at 11,600 cal. yr. BP (Preboreal warming), between 10,600 and 10,100 cal. yr. BP (Boreal cooling), and between 8,400 and 4,550 cal. yr. BP (warm and dry interval of the Atlantic). Since 4,550 cal. yr. BP the climate became gradually cooler, wetter and more oceanic. This trend was interrupted by warmer and dryer phases between 3,440 and 2,850 cal. yr. BP and, likely, between 2,500 and 2,250 cal. yr. BP.  相似文献

Homogeneity, mass fractions of about forty trace elements and Sr isotope composition of Ca carbonate reference materials (RMs) between original and nano‐powdered pellets are compared. Our results using nanosecond and femtosecond LA‐(MC)‐ICP‐MS show that the nano‐pellets of the RMs MACS‐3NP, JCp‐1NP and JCt‐1NP are about a factor of 2–3 more homogeneous than the original samples MACS‐3, JCp‐1 and JCt‐1, and are therefore much more suitable for microanalytical purposes. With the exception of Si, the mass fractions of the synthetic RM MACS‐3 agree with its fine‐grained analogue MACS‐3NP. Very small, but significant, differences between original and nano‐pellets are observed in the RMs JCp‐1 and JCt‐1 for some trace elements with very low contents, indicating the need for re‐certification. Strontium mass fractions in the analysed RMs are high (1500–7000 mg kg?1), and their isotope compositions determined by LA‐MC‐ICP‐MS in the original and the nano‐pellets agree within uncertainty limits.  相似文献

In the Erlenbach stream, a pre‐alpine steep channel in Switzerland, sediment transport has been monitored for more than 25 years. Near the confluence with the main valley river, stream flow is monitored and sediment is collected in a retention basin with a capacity of about 2000 m3. The basin is surveyed at regular intervals and after large flood events. In addition, sediment transport has been continuously monitored with piezoelectric bedload impact and geophone sensors since 1986. In 2008–2009, the measuring system in the Erlenbach stream was enhanced by installing an automatic system to obtain bedload samples. Movable metal baskets are mounted on a rail at the downstream wall of the large check dam above the retention basin, and they can be moved automatically into the flow to take bedload transport samples. The wire mesh of the baskets has a spacing of 10 mm to sample all sediment particles coarser than this size (which is about the limiting grain size detected by the geophones). The upgraded measuring system permits to obtain bedload samples over short sampling periods and to measure the grain size distribution of the transported material and its variation over time and with discharge. The analysis of calibration relationships for the geophone measuring system confirms findings from very similar measurements which were performed until 1999 with piezoelectric bedload impact sensors; there is a linear relationship between impulse counts and bedload mass passing over the sensors. Findings from flume experiments are used to discuss the most important factors which affect the calibration of the geophone signal. The bedload transport rates as measured by the moving baskets are among the highest measured in natural streams, with values of the order of several kilograms per meter per second. The ICDP–USGS Eyreville drill cores in the Chesapeake Bay impact structure reached a total depth of 1766 m and comprise (from the bottom upwards) basement‐derived schists and granites/pegmatites, impact breccias, mostly poorly lithified gravelly sand and crystalline blocks, a granitic slab, sedimentary breccias, and postimpact sediments. The gravelly sand and crystalline block section forms an approximately 26 m thick interval that includes an amphibolite block and boulders of cataclastic gneiss and suevite. Three gravelly sands (basal, middle, and upper) are distinguished within this interval. The gravelly sands are poorly sorted, clast supported, and generally massive, but crude size‐sorting and subtle, discontinuous layers occur locally. Quartz and K‐feldspar are the main sand‐size minerals and smectite and kaolinite are the principal clay minerals. Other mineral grains occur only in accessory amounts and lithic clasts are sparse (only a few vol%). The gravelly sands are silica rich (~80 wt% SiO2). Trends with depth include a slight decrease in SiO2 and slight increase in Fe2O3. The basal gravelly sand (below the cataclasite boulder) has a lower SiO2 content, less K‐feldspar, and more mica than the higher sands, and it contains more lithic clasts and melt particles that are probably reworked from the underlying suevite. The middle gravelly sand (below the amphibolite block) is finer‐grained, contains more abundant clay minerals, and displays more variable chemical compositions than upper gravelly sand (above the block). Our mineralogical and geochemical results suggest that the gravelly sands are avalanche deposits derived probably from the nonmarine Potomac Formation in the lower part of the target sediment layer, in contrast to polymict diamictons higher in the core that have been interpreted as ocean‐resurge debris flows, which is in agreement with previous interpretations. The mineralogy and geochemistry of the gravelly sands are typical for a passive continental margin source. There is no discernible mixing with marine sediments (no glauconite or Paleogene marine microfossils noted) during the impact remobilization and redeposition. The unshocked amphibolite block and cataclasite boulder might have originated from the outer parts of the transient crater.  相似文献

Sediment loads have been measured in six Swiss mountain torrents over several decades. Most of these torrent catchments are situated in the prealpine belt. They have catchment areas of between 0·5 and 1·7 km2. Bedslopes at the measuring sites vary between 5 and 17 per cent, and peak discharges up to 12 m3 s−1 have been recorded. Geophone sensors installed in the Erlenbach stream allow bedload transport activity to be monitored and sediment volumes associated with each flood event to be determined. A detailed analysis of the measurements in this stream results in an empirical equation in which the sediment load per flood event is expressed as a function of the effective runoff volume (discharges above the threshold for bedload motion) and of the normalized peak discharge. For the total of 143 investigated flood events in the Erlenbach stream, the deviation of the predicted from the measured value is within a factor of two for more than two-thirds of all events. A distinction can be made between summer and winter events in analysing the bedload transport events. The summer events, mainly caused by thunderstorms, transport comparatively larger sediment loads than the winter events. For the other investigated streams, the periods of the deposited sediment volume surveys cover in general several flood events. An analysis is performed analogous to that for the Erlenbach stream. The sediment loads show a similar dependency on the two factors effective runoff volume and normalized peak discharge. However, the exponents of these factors in the power law expressions differ from stream to stream. A comparison of the investigated stream shows that some of the variation can be explained by considering the bedslope above the measuring site. The inclusion of a bedslope factor is in agreement with laboratory investigations on bedload transport. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

本文着重分析中国和北非沙漠地区沙、尘搬运输送的动力学机制,作者根据野外观察和观测数据,依持续时间和强度为标尺,对风进行了系统的描述和分类.导言部分首先阐述了造成沙漠地表温度差异的主要因素.一个至关重要的要素就是物质的热传导性.例如,坚硬的岩石表面的加热往往没有在松散的沙质表面的快,但在胶结紧实的岩石上,阳光加热可以影响到表面下lm深,而在松散的河流和风成砂上只可达30cma的深度.正是由于这种差异,在很小的范围内,裸露的基岩和沙面上的温度可以有20℃的区别,这种温差难免会导致空气的运动.由于沙面上的空气增温而向上运动,在垂直方向上形成一个"气泵”,而在水平方向上则形成小的锋面.当沙质表面范围较大时,则会产生干绝热对流过程,有时这个过程极为强烈,导致了携带沙、尘的"气尾”.这就是笔者所说的第1类起沙扬尘风.例如,沙漠地区的小"龙卷风”就属于这类.由坡面倾向、地表起伏和积云阴影等造成的增温差异都会形成这类沙尘的运动过程.文章中阐述到干绝热对流时,选用利比亚Hon-Graben,美国PanamitValley及北非的萨赫勒地区的例子.第2类沙尘现象是指增温面积较大时形成积云,干绝热对流十分强烈,对流过程上升到云层,起沙扬尘的面积之大已可以称为沙尘暴.文中叙述的例子是库尔勒和嘎顺诺尔的沙尘天气.文中划分的第3至第5类现象都与雷雨天气所诱发的气流运动直接相关.第3类指的是由单个雷雨气团造成的,第4类是由多个雷雨气团造成的,而第5类则是由大的雷雨天气所造成的.就沙尘暴的影响范围而言,第1至第4类只导致沙尘在就地或小范围内的移动,而第5类则会导致远距离甚至全球尺度上的沙尘输送.笔者所说的第6类沙尘搬运的形式是指沙尘随锋面的运动,诱发因子在北非是南下的极地气团,而在西非是西南季风.第7类沙尘运动则是由全球性的信风和西风天气体系所造成的.但在第4类以上,很难区分不同类型沙尘暴的诱发要素,原因是在信风和西风的锋面上常伴随出现多个或较大的雷雨气团.从沙尘天气过程的强度来讲,主要是第5至第7类会在区域地貌上留下烙印.低等类型的沙尘输送虽然通过对地表物质的搬运也会造就沙丘和风蚀地形,但其形态都很小.只有较大的天气系统才能塑造有主导地位的地貌形态.这种形态被J.Hovermann和H.Hagedorn定义为风营力地形,其在北非的分布上线可达海拔l000m,在垂直带上与其它地貌形态相间.在撒哈拉地区风地形仅出现在一个地貌带上.而在中国风营力地形则分布于3个高度范围的台阶上,其垂直带的形态变化类同于撒哈拉地区.在低台阶上分布上线为1800m,在中台阶上分布范围为2800~3200m,而在高台阶上则出现在4300~4900m的高度作者简介:DieterJakel男60岁教授地理学专业2000-10-25收稿范围内.但就垂直带谱、地貌过程和天气系统而言,中国和北非则不尽相同.  相似文献

Ion microprobe (SHRIMP) dating was carried out on different zircon domains from metamorphic rocks of the HP-HT terrane of central Rhodope, northern Greece, to constrain the timing of prograde and retrograde stages within a single tectono-metamorphic cycle. A well determined P-T-t(relative) path for the metamorphic rocks of this terrane was used as a petrological basis for the geochronological investigations. Ion microprobe work was assisted by cathodoluminescence (CL) images of the zircon crystals. The geochronological results revealed that Hercynian continental crust was subducted during the Eocene. Several stages of the Eocene tectono-metamorphic cycle – including both the prograde and retrograde parts of the P-T path above ca 300 °C, 0.3 GPa – were dated using zircons from the following rock types: (1) A deformed quartz vein probably formed at ca 300 °C, 0.3 GPa. Zircons in this vein precipitated from a hydrothermal fluid; they yielded an age of 45.3 ± 0.9 Ma which corresponds to the time of a low-T prograde stage of metamorphism. (2) In kyanite eclogites, zircons were entirely reset during eclogite-facies metamorphism. Resetting was very probably enhanced by the presence of fluids derived by H2O liberating reactions close to the P-peak. They yielded an age of 42.2 ± 0.9 Ma. (3) Orthogneisses surrounding the kyanite eclogites contained zircons with magmatic oscillatory zoned cores, which yielded Hercynian ages of 294 ± 8 Ma (age of granitic protolith formation), whereas CL-bright, metamorphic rims yielded, like the eclogite zircons, ages of 42.0 ± 1.1 Ma. Therefore, both the eclogites and orthogneisses are interpreted to have approached maximum depth at around 42 Ma. (4) In a leucosome of a migmatized orthogneiss, oscillatory zoned zircons yielded an age of 40.0 ± 1.0 Ma. At this time the rocks reached maximum temperatures during early decompression. (5) A late pegmatite crosscutting the schistosity of amphibolites contained oscillatory zoned zircons that yielded a crystallization age of 36.1 ± 1.2 Ma. Thus, the whole tectono-metamorphic cycle above ca 300 °C, 0.3 GPa lasted from 45.3 ± 0.9 Ma to 36.1 ± 1.2 Ma, that is 9.2 Ma with an extreme error value of 2.1 Ma. Based on combined SHRIMP and petrological data, the average rates of heating and burial during subduction (above ca 300 °C, 0.3 GPa) are >94 °C/Ma and >15 mm/a, respectively. Rates of cooling and exhumation (also above 300 °C, 0.3 GPa) are calculated to be >128° C/Ma and >7.7 mm/a. The Eocene age of metamorphism in central Rhodope implies that the terrane of, at least, central Rhodope and the Cyclades very probably was part of the same continental crust.
