New major and trace element data for 79 acid-intermediate charnockitic gneisses (the Tromøy gneisses) and 16 associated metabasites from the island of Tromøy show that this part of the 1200–900-m.y. Sveconorwegian zone is occupied by rocks of unusual composition. Overall values for K and Rb are the lowest yet reported for any granulites, and K/Rb ratios are very high. Cs and Th are also low and, abnormally for granulites, so are Ba, Sr and Zr. Ba/Sr ratios are similar to those in other suites, but K/Ba and K/Sr are higher. These features may partially be reflecting unusual pre-metamorphic lithologies, but it is considered more likely that they are largely the product of metamorphically induced depletion processes involving metasomatism. There is some indication that the Na2O/CaO and normative Ab/An ratios may also have been modified during metamorphism.Data for the presumed relatively immobile elements Cr, Co, Ni and V support an igneous origin for the Tromøy gneisses, but the presence of a paragneiss component cannot be ruled out. A characteristic of the gneisses is their high iron content, and spatial and temporal considerations point towards a genetic link with the iron-rich, intrusive rapakivi suites of Finland, Sweden and south Greenland. If the Tromøy gneisses do represent material of this type, it would seem to follow that potash fractionation has been extreme. 相似文献

Experimental determinations of the dry liquidus temperatures of two pantellerite, and two pantelleritic trachyte glasses in the pressure range 0–2 kilobars, show minima in the liquidus curves between 0.1 and 0.2 kb. The pantellerite minima are 830°–850° C; the trachyte minima are 920°–940° C. At pressures below the minima a separate vapour phase co-exists with liquid, at higher pressures the intrinsic volatiles are completely soluble in the liquid and the liquidus curves have a positivedT/dP. Similar results have been obtained from a range of other pantelleritic glasses, and together with consistent alkali feldspar compositions (from a wide range of experimental conditions) are indicative of a close approach to equilibrium. The form of the liquidus curves above the minima, if rellecting natural conditions, offers a ready explanation of the near-or super-liquidus aspect of many peralkaline lavas. The temperatures in these anhydrous experiments are 100°–150° C higher than those for similar compositions in the presence of excess water. (Also, in the presence of excess water, the crystallization sequences in the natural glasses are profoundly modified, with pyroxene appearing on the liquidus). At lower pressures, feldspar is the liquidus phase in the dry pantellerites, but is joined by quartz around 1 kb, and superseded by quartz at higher pressures. As pantellerites with quartz phenocrysts are uncommon, low pressure equilibration is perhaps normal in these magmas. Feidspar is the usual liquidus phase in the trachytes, except at very low pressures where it is preceded by iron oxide. Preliminary studies at 5 kb indicate that the pantelleritic and trachytic liquidus curves are converging (in the range 950°–1000° C). Crystallization sequences, and the forms and positions of the solidus curves are therefore of vital importance. Compositional heterogeneity (56–64 wt% SiO2 whole-rock) in samples of tephra and lava from the 1986 eruption of Augustine Volcano, Alaska, raises questions about the
physical nature of magma storage and interaction beneath this young and frequently active volcano. To determine conditions
of magma storage and evolutionary histories of compositionally distinct magmas, we investigate physical and chemical characteristics
of andesitic and dacitic magmas feeding the 1986 eruption. We calculate equilibrium temperatures and oxygen fugacities from
Fe-Ti oxide compositions and find a continuous range in temperature from 877 to 947°C and high oxygen fugacities (ΔNNO=1–2)
for all magmas. Melt inclusions in pyroxene phenocrysts analyzed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and electron probe
microanalysis are dacitic to rhyolitic and have water contents ranging from <1 to ∼7 wt%. Matrix glass compositions are rhyolitic
and remarkably similar (∼75.9–76.6 wt% SiO2) in all samples. All samples have ∼25% phenocrysts, but lower-silica samples have much higher microlite contents than higher-silica
samples. Continuous ranges in temperature and whole-rock composition, as well as linear trends in Harker diagrams and disequilibrium
mineral textures, indicate that the 1986 magmas are the product of mixing between dacitic magma and a hotter, more mafic magma.
The dacitic endmember is probably residual magma from the previous (1976) eruption of Augustine, and we interpret the mafic
endmember to have been intruded from depth. Mixing appears to have continued as magmas ascended towards the vent. We suggest
that the physical structure of the magma storage system beneath Augustine contributed to the sustained compositional heterogeneity
of this eruption, which is best explained by magma storage and interaction in a vertically extensive system of interconnected
dikes rather than a single coherent magma chamber and/or conduit. The typically short repose period (∼10 years) between Augustine's
recent eruptive pulses may also inhibit homogenization, as short repose periods and chemically heterogeneous magmas are observed
at several volcanoes in the Cook Inlet region of Alaska. 相似文献

Computer modelling techniques were employed to investigate the adsorption of a selection of organic surfactant molecules to a range of fluorapatite surfaces, and new interatomic potential models for the apatite/adsorbate interactions are presented. The adsorbates coordinate mainly to the surfaces through interaction between their oxygen (or nitrogen) atoms to surface calcium ions, followed by hydrogen-bonded interactions to surface oxygen ions and, to a much lesser extent, surface fluorides. Bridging between two surface calcium ions is the preferred mode of adsorption, when the geometry of the adsorbates allows it, and multiple interactions between surfaces and adsorbate molecules lead to the largest adsorption energies. All adsorbates containing carbonyl and hydroxy groups interact strongly with the surfaces, releasing energies between approximately 100 and 215 kJ mol−1, but methylamine containing only the –NH2 functional group adsorbs to the surfaces to a much lesser extent (25–95 kJ mol−1). Both hydroxy methanamide and hydroxy ethanal prefer to adsorb to some surfaces in an eclipsed conformation, which is a requisite for these functional groups. Sorption of the organic material by replacement of pre-adsorbed water at different surface features is calculated to be mainly exothermic for methanoic acid, hydroxy methanamide and hydroxy ethanal molecules, whereas methyl amine would not replace pre-adsorbed water at the fluorapatite surfaces. The efficacy of the surfactant molecules is calculated to be hydroxy aldehydes > alkyl hydroxamates > carboxylic acids ≫ alkyl amines. The results from this study suggest that computer simulations may provide a route to the identification or even design of particular organic surfactants for use in mineral separation by flotation. 相似文献

BVRI photometry of SS Cyg from the end of 1996 and the beginning of 1997 is presented. The star underwent an eruption around December 11. The amplitude of which was slightly bigger than those of observed earlier eruptions. We saw some indication of the future outburst in the decreasing of brightness in all colours by about 0.4 mag during the last two weeks before the event. The emission of the system moved strongly to the shorter wavelengths at outburst. Our multicolour data confirm the existence of a light variability with the orbital (spectroscopic) period at quiescence. Moreover we found for the first time that this variability exists also at outburst but its amplitude is 3–5 times smaller. Whereas the amplitudes of the orbital variability at quiescence decrease to the longer wavelengths, they increase at outburst to the longer wavelengths. The orbital folded curve at quiescence has two-wave shape and was fitted well by the different visibility of two diametrical opposite hot spots (210000 K) with angular size 100 on the magnetic poles of the white dwarf. An analogy between the two basic states of the U Gem-star SS Cyg, the polar AM Her and Z Cam-star RX And was found. 相似文献

The use of digital image analysis for the investigation of many natural phenomena is not novel. A vast amount of literature exists on its application to the study of a diversity of physical characteristics from many environments. The power of this tool is now being realised, however, in the study of sediments, from both marine and lacustrine environments. The advent of image processing applications for use in a personal computing environment, and the availability of high resolution digital video cameras, are serving to bring the technique to the desktops of many researchers. This paper will attempt to review those techniques which may be found useful by researchers contemplating the use of image analysis in this type of study, and in particular those who need to count laminations in order to construct a chronology, or to compile time series from lamina thickness or composition, for comparison with those derived from other datasets. Much of the information may be found already in print, but it derives from many disciplines, and does not seem to have been documented previously in this connection. 相似文献

Previous analyses of density intrusions indicate that only relatively thin intrusions are allowed, to satisfy a momentum balance at the current head. These constraints can be relaxed somewhat by various modifications to the basic theory, but are inconsistent with experimental observations indicating that intrusions occupying nearly the entire flow depth can be produced. An alternative theory of density current propagation does not possess these restrictions on intrusion layer thickness and provides a more satisfactory explanation of experimental observations.
