We describe the first results of our observations of the exceptionally bright optical afterglow from the cosmic gamma-ray burst (GRB) of March 29, 2003 (030329), with the 1.5-m Russian-Turkish telescope (RTT150) installed at the TUBITAK National Observatory (Turkey) at Mount Bakyrlytepe. RTT150 was one of the first medium-class telescopes pointed at the afterglow. The observations began as early as about six hours after the GRB. During the first five hours of our observations, the BV RI flux fell off exactly as a power law with the same slope ?1.19±0.01. Subsequently, in all of the BV RI bands, we observed the same increase in the power-law slope of the light curve to a value that was later recorded during the observations at observatories in the western hemisphere. The break in the power-law light curve occurs at t ? t 0 ≈ 0.57 days (13.5 h) and lasts for about 0.2 days. Apart from this smooth decrease in the flux, the afterglow exhibited no flux variability. The upper limits on the variability are 10–1% on time scales of 0.1–1000 s, respectively. The BV RI spectral flux distribution during the first night of our observations closely corresponds to a power-law spectrum with a spectral index α=0.66±0.01. The change in the power-law slope of the light curve at the end of our observations is probably attributable to the deceleration of the ultrarelativistic jet to a gamma factor when its structural features begin to show up in the light curve. The radio, optical, and X-ray broadband spectrum is consistent with the assumption about the synchrotron radiation of the ultrarelativistic jet. This unique object continues to be observed with RTT150.  相似文献

We used bottomside ground observations and topside sounding data from the Intercosmos-19 satellite to study a Travelling Ionospheric Disturbance (TID) that occurred in response to Large-Scale Internal Gravity Wave (LSIGW) propagation during a substorm on November 30, 1979. We built a global scheme for the wavelike ionospheric variations during this medium substorm (AEmax ~800 nT). The area where the TID was observed looks like a wedge since it covers the nighttime hours at subauroral latitudes but contracts to a ~02 h local sector at low latitudes. The ionospheric response is strongly asymmetric because the wedge area and the TID amplitude are larger in the winter hemisphere than in the summer hemisphere. Clear evidence was obtained indicating that the more powerful TID from the Northern (winter) hemisphere propagated across the equator into the low latitude Southern (summer) hemisphere. Intercosmos-19 observations show that the disturbance covers the entire thickness of the topside ionosphere, from hmF2 up to at least the 1000 km satellite altitude at post-midnight local times. F-layer lifting reached ~200 km, Ne increases in the topside ionosphere by up to a factor of ~1.9 and variations in NmF2 of both signs were observed. Assumptions are made concerning the reason for the IGW effect at high altitudes in the topside ionosphere. The relationship between TID parameters and source characteristics determined from a global network of magnetometers are studied. The role of the dayside cusp in the generation of the TID in the daytime ionosphere is discussed. The magnetospheric electric field effects are distinguished from IGW effects.  相似文献

A mathematical model has been proposed for describing quasi-stationary atmospheric electric fields with approximate, but fairly accurate allowance for ionospheric conductivity. It is shown that some well-known models of electric field penetration from the Earth into the ionosphere have been deemed inadequate, though they work well in the atmosphere below 50 km. In these models, the arbitrarily specified boundary condition in the upper boundary of the atmosphere omits the existing good conductor or adds not existent conductor. The maximum possible field in our model is far less than in models where ionospheric conductivity is not taken into account, but vastly larger than in models based on the approximation with infinite Pedersen conductivity in the upper ionosphere.  相似文献

Computer modelling is used to investigate the possibility of determining ionospheric parameters from slightly oblique ionospheric soundings, using absorption data for decametric radio waves of different polarization. It is shown that with mean square measurement errors of 0.5 dB, and using regularization algorithms to solve the inverse problems, electron collision frequency profiles can be obtained for the night F-region with errors of less than 30%. Both temperatures of electrons and neutrals are also determined to within 10%.  相似文献

Our observations with the 1.5-m Russian-Turkish Telescope (RTT150) in October 2005 as part of the program for identifying ROSAT X-ray sources revealed deep eclipses in the cataclysmic variable 1RXS J020929.0+283243 in Triangulum. We determined the orbital period of the binary (96.26 min) and the range of its magnitude variations . Due to the favorable geometry (the orbital inclination is close to 90°), the light curve exhibits eclipses of the white dwarf by the secondary component and eclipses of the hot spot by the white dwarf itself.  相似文献
