A new occurrence of myrmekitic orthopyroxene-magnetite-ilmenite intergrowth from a thin ultramafic layer within a heterogeneous noritic rock from the Frederiksdal area, South Greenland, was investigated chemically and texturally. Compositionally, the intergrown ilmenite and orthopyroxene show the lowest recorded MgO content from pyroxene-oxide mineral intergrowths. The magnetite-ilmenite intergrowth has skeletal morphology, consisting of sets of thinly tabular plates parallel to the (111) planes of the spinel structure. The orthopyroxene-oxide intergrowth is considered to be the result of a simultaneous magmatic crystallization, that of the oxide minerals being faster.  相似文献

The applicability of the tungsten oxide denuder tube technique for the measurement of nitric acid in the rural troposphere was investigated. The technique is based on selective chemisorption of HNO3 from the gas stream, thermal desorption, conversion to NO, and analysis by NO–O3 chemiluminescence. Ammonia, which is also collected and desorbed as NH3 and NO, was separated from the HNO3-derived NO by linear temperature-programed thermal desorption. Possible interferences by NO2, HCN, PAN, and n-propyl nitrate (NPN) were tested and found to be significant under conditions found in the lower troposphere. Simultaneous ambient measurements of HNO3 were made with the tungsten oxide denuder tube and nylon filter methods at a rural site in the Colorado mountains (Niwot Ridge, CO). Nitric acid levels measured by the tungsten oxide denuder tube averaged a factor of 3 higher than levels measured by the nylon filter technique. Tests involving the placement of nylon materials in front of the tungsten oxide denuder tube show that there are species, as yet unidentified, present in the atmosphere that interfere with the measurement of HNO3 by the tungsten oxide technique.  相似文献

We have extended fission-track dating techniques to volcanic pyroclastic rocks, using quartz-bearing uranium-rich glass inclusions. We use both the glass itself and the surrounding quartz as track detectors, the latter having a much higher resetting temperature. We can thus derive the age of the last low-temperature thermal event, as well as that of the most recent deposition of quartz on the walls of the inclusions. This method has been applied to a Sardinian sample and to a Moroccan Precambrian sample.  相似文献

Studies of sediment cores from 12 acidic lakes in granitic, forested and uninhabited catchments in northern New England, U.S.A. produced diatom-inferred pH (IpH) 5.2 to 5.8 and alkalinity (Ialk) –12 to 31 µeq l–1, with slowly declining values at some lakes, for one to four centuries prior to logging. Increases of IpH (0.05 to 0.60) and Ialk (5 to 40 µeq l–1) correlate with logging in the catchments in the early-1800s to early-1900s. Recovery to pre-logging IpH and Ialk correlates with forest succession toward conifers, and is completed in the late-1800s to mid-1900s. Beginning at 1915–1920 (4 lakes), 1930–1950 (4 lakes) and 1965–1970 (4 lakes), IpH and Ialk start decreasing below pre-logging values due to atmospheric acidic deposition, leading to respective total decreases of 0.10 to 0.45 (X=0.25) and 5 to 25 µeq l–1 (X=15). Inputs of anthropogenic Pb, Zn, V, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and soot from the atmosphere are first detectable in early- to late-1800s sediment, and Cu in late-1800s sediment, increase rapidly in the late-1800s to mid-1900s, and level off or decrease since the 1960s — partly due to emission controls. Decreasing Ca, Mn, and possibly Zn relative to other metals and normalized to organic content, and increasing flux of Fe to the lakes, indicate soil and water acidification after 1900.This is the fourteenth of a series of papers to be published by this journal which is a contribution of the Paleoecological Investigation of Recent Lake Acidification (PIRLA) project. Cultural geography might benefit from consideration of radical behaviourism and from interpretation and application of the concepts of behaviour analysis. The basic concept is that of operant conditioning, referring to the environment reinforcing behaviours that are most adaptive and effective in achieving reinforcers and avoiding aversive stimuli. The concept of rule-governed behaviour facilitates incorporation of cognition into behaviour analyses, accommodating the fact that many consequences are delayed. These concepts are applied in an analysis of nineteenth-century Mormon settlement in the American West. This argument for an objectivist approach is laden with social scientific baggage not favoured in contemporary cultural geography.  相似文献

Remote sensing of the ice cover in Storfjorden (Svalbard) revealed the persistence and evolution of latent heat polynyas during the winter of 1997/98. Latent heat polynyas open mechanically under wind stress or ocean currents that transport the ice cover away. In the present work we used mathematical modelling to simulate the Storfjorden polynya size and geometry caused by wind stress, measured at the meteorological station on the island of Hopen in winter 1997/98. The dependence of the polynya outlines on the wind velocity is presented. Two approaches were used: quasi-static and dynamic. Quasi-static simulations are based on a time-independent, linear ice stress-strain relationship valid for the low strain rates only. Time dependence of the ice cover fracture is joined with stress-strain nonlinearity caused by ice delayed-elastic recovery and viscosity. Results are compared to satellite observations from the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) of ERS-2. The simulation results show that a northern wind opens a larger polynya (ca. 30%) than does a north-eastern wind with the same speed. The results also indicate that the bathymetry and geometry of the fjord might have a stronger influence on the polynya opening and development than the location of individual islands and reefs.  相似文献

40Ar/39Ar dating on muscovites, performed on leucogranitic intrusions of Charroux–Civray plutonic complex, points out the existence of two peraluminous magmatic activities, whose equivalents are known in the Limousin: (1) garnet-bearing leucogranitic veins at ca. 340 Ma; (2) a specialised leucogranite associated with W ± Sn deposits at ca 310 Ma. However, available 40Ar/39Ar data do not allow us to provide further data concerning the age and the geometry at depth of a large leucogranitic body identified by geophysics. To cite this article: P.
