The evaluation of seismic site response in the urban area of Catania was tackled by selecting test areas having peculiar lithological
and structural features, potentially favourable to large local amplifications of ground motion. The two selected areas are
located in the historical downtown and in the northern part of Catania where the presence of a fault is evident. Site response
was evaluated using spectral ratio technique taking the horizontal- to-vertical component ratio of ambient noise. Inferences
from microtremor measurements are compared with results from synthetic accelerograms and response spectra computed at all
drillings available for this area. Such method is particularly suitable in urban areas where the nature of the outcropping
geological units is masked by city growth and anthropic intervention on the surface geology. The microtremor H/V spectral
ratios evaluated at soft sites located within the downtown profile tend to be smaller than that usually reported in the literature
for such soils. A tendency for amplifications to peaks near 2 Hz is observed only in some sites located on recent alluvial
deposits. Evidences for amplifications of site effects (frequency range 4–8 Hz) were observed in the sampling sites located
on the fault, with a rapid decrease of spectral amplitude just a few tenths of metres away from the discontinuity. Numerical
simulations evidenced the importance of geolithological features at depth levels even greater than 20–30 m. Besides this,
the results strongly confirm the importance of the subsurface geological conditions, in the estimate of seismic hazard at

High precision center-limb spectrograms of the K i resonance doublet line at λ 7699 Å were used to study the line formation and to determine the abundance of potassium in the solar atmosphere. The LTE assumption is not valid for these lines. Synthetic profiles computed in NLTE reproduce very well the observed center-limb line behaviour and yield log? In order to test the hypothesis of ionized polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as possible carriers of the UIR bands, we realized a computational exploration on selected PAHs of small dimension in order to identify which changes ionization would induce on their IR spectra. In this study we performed ab initio calculations of the spectra of neutral and positively ionized naphthalene, anthracene, and pyrene. The results are significantly important. The frequencies in the cations are slightly shifted with respect to the neutral species, but no general conclusion can be reached from the three molecules considered. By contrast, the relative intensities of most vibrations are strongly affected by ionization, leading to a much better agreement between the calculated CH/CC vibration intensity ratios and those deduced from observations. 相似文献

Astrometric observations of microlensing events can be used to obtain important information about lenses. During these events, the shift of the position of the multiple image centroid with respect to the source star location can be measured. This effect, which is expected to occur on scales from micro-arcseconds to milli-arcseconds, depends on the lens-source-observer system physical parameters. Here, we consider the astrometric and photometric observations by space and ground-based telescopes of microlensing events towards the Galactic bulge caused by free floating planets (FFPs). We show that the efficiency of astrometric signal on photometrically detected microlensing events tends to increase for higher FFP masses in our Galaxy. In addition, we estimate that during five years of the Gaia observations, about a dozen of microlensing events caused by FFPs are expected to be detectable. 相似文献

In this paper we present the observational campaign carried out at ESO NTT and VLT in April and May 2006 to investigate the nature and the structure of the near-Earth object (144898) 2004 VD17. In spite of a great quantity of dynamical information, according to which it will have a close approach with the Earth in the next century, the physical properties of this asteroid are largely unknown. We performed visible and near-infrared photometry and spectroscopy, as well as polarimetric observations. Polarimetric and spectroscopic data allowed us to classify 2004 VD17 as an E-type asteroid. A good agreement was also found with the spectrum of the aubrite meteorite Mayo Belwa. On the basis of the polarimetric albedo (pv=0.45) and of photometric data, we estimated a diameter of about 320 m and a rotational period of about 2 h. The analysis of the results obtained by our complete survey have shown that (144898) 2004 VD17 is a peculiar NEO, since it is close to the breakup limits for fast rotator asteroids, as defined by Pravec and Harris [Pravec, P., Harris, A.W., 2000. We argue that the temperature of the stellar phase is likely a monotically decreasing function of radius in the central regions
of elliptical galaxies with cusps. We show that it requires the presence of a central mass concentration. An estimate of its
minimum mass based on few parameters is given. This lower bound is consistent with current mass values of the central objects
in galaxies derived from detailed models.
