Lithofacies zoning is described for the first time for the Neo- and Eopleistocene of the Bering Sea. Four lithofacies sedimentation zones are distinguished: (I) terrigenous; (II) siliceous–terrigenous; (III) siliceous, and (IV) volcanoterrigenous ones. Corresponding maps were treated using Ronov volumetric method to quantify sedimentation parameters for distinguished lithofacies zones (subzones) and types of Pleistocene sediments. It was revealed that terrigenous sediments predominate over other sediments. Accumulation of the terrigenous sediments was more intense (by 1.4 times) in the Neopleistocene than in the Eopleistocene. The sedimentation rate of siliceous sediments of the Bowers Ridge in the Eopleistocene was two times higher than in the Neopleistocene. 相似文献

Microseismic systems at five mines in the Sudbury Basin provide the basic data for Falconbridge Limited's rockburst research. Daily and long-term analysis of this data as well as underground observations have confirmed the fault-slip mechanism at three mines. A detailed analysis of the complete history of Falconbridge Mine is being conducted and Distinct Element numerical models are being used to simulate both the stick-slip behaviour of faults and the dynamic effects of the induced vibrations on rock and backfill. The Dynamical Attitude Model (DAM) is a simulation package developed to achieve a detailed understanding of the Gaia spacecraft attitude. It takes into account external physical effects and considers internal hardware components controlling the satellite. The main goal of the Gaia mission is to obtain extremely accurate astrometry, and this necessitates a good knowledge of Gaia’s behaviour as a spinning rigid body under the influence of various perturbations. For the first time, minor cyclicity is described from some limestones in the lower part of the Brigantian (D2) succession of the Mold district North Wales which can be traced throughout the area enabling a detailed correlation to be established. The minor cyclicity may have been caused by eustatic sea-level fluctuations. Periods of emergence associated with each regressive phase are demonstrated by the presence of subaerial features and terrestrial deposits. The lateral persistence of the cycles is confirmed by comparison with established faunal and lithological horizons. Correlation with other cyclic Brigantian strata in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Bristol is briefly discussed. The Asbian/Brigantian (D1/D2) boundary in North Wales is described and distinctive faunal and lithological changes similar to those in the area of the stratotype in north England have been recorded. 相似文献

Comprehensive distribution patterns of physical and chemical characteristics have been obtained from a series of cruises in Liverpool Bay. The marked feature of these distributions was their temporal variability, suggesting that the surface residual circulation is also temporally variable. A thick (200 m) rock salt mass covering Late Archean granitoids was exposed for the first time in the Early Proterozoic volcanogenic-sedimentary
formations in the Onega trough of the east Baltic Shield by the Onega parametric well. The mineral composition of salts, their
geochemical features, and the isotopic composition of carbonate carbon and oxygen have been studied. After fluid inclusions
present in salts, their metamorphism temperature and isotopic composition of helium and argon were determined. The obtained
results give evidence of the fact that rock salts and magnesites associated with them were formed in an evaporate basin with
participation of deep crustal processes. The age of the underlying granitoids (2.716 ± 9 Ma) is determined using the Pb—Pb

The coal-bearing sediments and coal seams of the Karoo Basin, Southern Africa are described and discussed. The Karoo Basin is bounded on its southern margin by the Cape Fold Belt, onlaps onto the Kaapvaal Craton in the north and is classified as a foreland basin. Coal seams are present within the Early Permian Vryheid Formation and the Triassic Molteno Formation.The peats of the Vryheid Formation accumulated within swamps in a cool temperate climatic regime. Lower and upper delta plain, back-barrier and fluvial environments were associated with peat formation. Thick, laterally extensive coal seams have preferentially accumulated in fluvial environments. The coals are in general inertinite-rich and high in ash. However, increasing vitrinite and decreasing ash contents within seams occur from west to east across the coalfields. The Triassic Molteno coal seams accumulated with aerially restricted swamps in fluvial environments. These Molteno coals are thin, laterally impersistent, vitrinite-rich and shaly, and formed under a warm temperate climatic regime.Palaeoclimate, depositional systems, differential subsidence and basin tectonics influence to varying degrees, the maceral content, thickness and lateral extent of coal seams. However, the geographic position of peat-forming swamps within a foreland basin, coupled with basin tectonics and differential subsidence are envisaged as the primary controls on coal parameters. The Permian coals are situated in proximal positions on the passive margin of the foreland basin. Here, subsidence was limited which enhanced oxidation of organic matter and hence the formation of inertinitic coals. The coals in this tectonic setting are thick and laterally extensive. The Triassci coals are situated within the tectonically active foreland basin margin. Rapid subsidence and sedimentation rates occurred during peat formation which resulted in the preservation of thin, laterally impersistent, high ash, vitrinite-rich, shaly coals. 相似文献

Diverses formes de cette équation sont mentionnées. La première de ces formes est celle d'un bilan qui permet de définir le transport et le taux de production de la rotationnelle absolue de l'air. De la forme particulière de ce transport, il résulte que ce bilan se réduit à un bilan dans un espace à deux dimensions. Deux exemples illustrent les formules générales, le premier, en coordonnées sphériques (, ,r), le second, en coordonnées (, , ) où est un scalaire quelconque (pression atmosphérique, température potentielle, ...). Une autre forme de l'équation fondamentale est celle qui donne le taux d'accroissement individuel d'une composante de la rotationnelle absolue. Cette forme conduit à l'équation d'Ertel. En terminant, l'auteur généralise l'invariant d'Ertel-Rossby.
Summary Having recalled some results of the tensor analysis and the equations of atmospheric motion in general coordinates, the writer establishes the fundamental equation of the absolute vorticity. Different forms of this equation are mentioned. One of these is the equation of balance from which it is possible to deduce the definition of transport and production of vorticity. It is shown that the equation of balance of the absolute vorticity may be reduced to an equation of balance in two-dimensional space. Two examples illustrate the general equations and formulas: the first example, in spherical coordinates (, ,r), the second one in the coordinates (, , ) where is an arbitrary single-valued scalar quantity (pressure, potentiel temperature, ...). Another form of the absolute vorticity equation expresses the individual change of an arbitrary component of the absolute vorticity. This form leads toErtel's equation. Finally, the writer generalizes theErtel-Rossby invariant.
Zusammenfassung Nach einer Rekapitulation einiger Resultate der Tensorrechnung und der atmosphärischen Bewegungsgleichungen in generalisierten Koordinaten wird die absolute Wirbelgleichung aufgestellt und es werden verschiedene Formen dieser Gleichung erwähnt. Eine derselben ist die Bilanzformel, aus der die Definition des Wirbeltransports und der Anteil der Wirbelbildung abgeleitet werden können. Es wird gezeigt, daß die Bilanzgleichung des absoluten Wirbels auf eine Bilanzgleichung im zweidimensionalen Raum reduziert werden kann. Die allgemeinen Formeln werden durch zwei Beispiele erläutert: das erste in Kugelkoordinaten (, ,r), das zweite in den Koordinaten (, , ), wo eine beliebige skalare Größe (luftdruck, potentielle Temperatur usw.) darstellt. Eine andere Form der absoluten Wirbelgleichung gibt die individuelle Zunahme einer beliebigen Komponente der absoluten Wirbelstärke wieder; diese Form führt zurErtelschen Gleichung.
