The Cu ore of Ifri is a chalcopyrite stockwork hosted by Cambrian formations and was until now interpreted as a syngenetic massive sulphide deposit. Textural studies highlight two generations of pyrite early (Py I) and late (Py II) with respect to the regional deformation. The chalcopyrite stockwork overprinted Py II, outlining the epigenetic nature of the Cu mineralization. Regarding the origin of Cu-depositing fluids, the presence in the stockwork paragenesis of an U, W, Sn association and preliminary Pb/Pb dating of a brannerite belonging to this association suggest a contribution of the Tichka granite. The presence in the French–Italian Alps of several springs characterized by a high sodium–chloride content, depleted in oxygen-18, tritium free and with low carbon-14 activity, is well known. The geological, hydrological, and geochemical studies in progress for the new high-speed railway tunnel crossing the French–Italian Alps, show, in the drilled boreholes at a mean elevation of 700 masl, the presence of brines. Brines appear to be the basis of the geological, structural, and hydrodynamic systems, and fill the largest faults and the main tectonic contacts. A statistical model for predicting the intensity of tropical cyclones in the Bay of Bengal has been proposed. The model is developed applying multiple linear regression technique. The model parameters are determined from the database of 62 cyclones that developed over the Bay of Bengal during the period 1981–2000. The parameters selected as predictors are: initial storm intensity, intensity changes during past 12 hours, storm motion speed, initial storm latitude position, vertical wind shear averaged along the storm track, vorticity at 850 hPa, Divergence at 200 hPa and sea surface temperature (SST). When the model is tested with the dependent samples of 62 cyclones, the forecast skill of the model for forecasts up to 72 hours is found to be reasonably good. The average absolute errors (AAE) are less than 10 knots for forecasts up to 36 hours and maximum forecast error of order 14 knots occurs at 60 hours and 72 hours. When the model is tested with the independent samples of 15 cyclones (during 2000 to 2007), the AAE is found to be less than 13 knots (ranging from 5.1 to 12.5 knots) for forecast up to 72 hours. The model is found to be superior to the empirical model proposed by Roy Bhowmik et al (2007) for the Bay of Bengal.  相似文献

World-class mineral systems, such as those found in the Archaean eastern Yilgarn Craton, are the product of enormous energy and mass-flux systems driven by lithospheric-scale processes. These processes can create big footprints or signatures in the lithosphere, which can be observed at a range of scales and via a variety of methods: including geophysics, isotopes, tectonostratigraphy and geochemistry. We use these datasets to describe both the architecture (structure) of world-class gold systems of the Yilgarn Craton and the signatures of their formation. By applying an understanding of the most critical elements of the process, and their signatures, new areas, especially undercover, may be targeted more predictably than before.  相似文献

Heat flow has been determined by combining temperature measurements in 7 boreholes with thermal conductivity measurements in the Upper Vindhyan sedimentary rocks of Shivpuri area, central India. The boreholes are distributed at 5 sites within an area of 15 × 10 km2; their depths range from 174 to 268 m. Geothermal gradients estimated from borehole temperature profiles vary from 8.0–12.7 mK m−1 in the sandstone-rich formations to 25.5–27.5 mK m−1 in the shale-rich formations, consistent with the contrast in thermal conductivities of the two rock types. Heat flow in the area ranges between 45 and 61 mW m−2, with a mean of 52±6 mW m−2. The heat flow values are similar to the >50 mW m−2 heat flow observed in other parts of the northern Indian shield. The heat flow determinations represent the steady-state heat flow because, the thermal transients associated with the initial rifting, convergence and sedimentation in the basin as well as the more recent Deccan volcanism that affected the region to the south of the basin would have decayed, and therefore, the heat flow is in equilibrium with the radiogenic heat production of the crust and the heat flow from the mantle. The present study reports the heat flow measurements from the western part of the Vindhyan basin and provides heat flow information for the Bundhelkhand craton for the first time. Radioelement (Th, U and K) abundances have been measured both in the sedimentary rocks exposed in the area as well as in the underlying basement granite-gneiss of Bundelkhand massif exposed in the adjacent area. Radioactive heat production, estimated from those abundances, indicate mean values of 0.3 μW m−3 for sandstone with inter-bands of shale and siltstone, 0.25 μW m−3 for sandstone with inter-bands siltstone, 0.6 μW m−3 for quartzose sandstone, and 2.7 μW m−3 for the basement granitoids. With a total sedimentary thickness not exceeding a few hundred metres in the area, the heat production of the sedimentary cover would be insignificant. The radioactive heat contribution from the basement granitoids in the upper crust is expected to be large, and together with the heat flow component from the mantle, would control the crustal thermal structure in the region.  相似文献

Part I: Chemical and structural effects of cation-exchange Attempts were made to prepare, by appropriate exchange methods, homoionic samples of phillipsite, gismondite, harmotome, chabazite and gmelinite containing Ba, Ca, K, Na or Li-ions. Powdered natural samples were used as starting material. All samples were analysed chemically before and after the cation exchange. The results of the analyses demonstrated clearly that the „exchange capacity“ depends on the method used, the structure of the zeolite and the nature of the cation involved in the exchange. The analyses also disclosed the important fact that the ratio in Mole % of the sum of exchangeable cations: Al2O3 of the natural and of the exchanged samples is generally <1, and can be as low as 0.74. Examples are presented where cation exchange results in a substantial change in the framework structure. Part II: Dehydration behavior and structural changes at elevated temperatures Samples of the natural zeolites mentioned above, and of some of their cation exchange products were dehydrated in air of controlled humidity up to 600° C. The slopes of the weight loss curves of chabazite and gmelinite are continuous, whereas those of phillipsite, gismondite, and harmotome show a discontinuity between 90–190° C, indicating the existence of two discrete hydrated phases for each of these zeolites. High temperature x-ray studies of powdered samples confirmed this result. The high temperature hydrates of phillipsite, gismondite, and harmotome persist reversibly up to approximately 230° C. At higher temperatures, new probably anhydrous phases form. Gmelinite, at 240° C, transforms irreversibly to anhydrous gmelinite which is stable up to >700° C. The transition was studied by single crystal techniques. The chabazite structure remains intact up to >700° C. The absolute water content and the dehydration behavoir of the zeolites investigated are primarily dependent on the nature of the exchange cation. The structural changes at elevated temperatures are determined by the silica alumina framework. Part III: Hydrothermal stability* and interconversions The stability of phillipsite, gismondite, harmotome, chabazite, gmelinite, their exchange products, and of the synthetic Linde zeolites Faujasite and Type A was studied in the temperature range between 150° and 350° C at a constant pressure of 1000 atm of H2O. Between 180° and 260° C all examined Sodium and Calcium zeolites were metastable with respect to analcite (wairakite**). Phillipsite and sodium-rich zeolites generally converted to analcite (wairakite) directly. Caex-chabazite and Caex-gmelinite formed phillipsite, whereas Ca-gismondite and Ca-Type A formed natrolite as intermediate phases. Li-gmelinite converted to bikitaite***. (This represents the first successful preparation of natrolite and bikitaite. Attempts starting from gels or glasses have been unsuccessful so far.) Ba-gmelinite converted to harmotome at 250° C. This transformation was studied microscopically and by single crystal x-ray techniques. The transformations that take place on hydrothermal treatment as well as on low temperature cation exchange of zeolites (see Part I) indicate that, unlike the conditions prevailing in clays, the type of cation and the ratio of cations in the exchange positions have an important influence on the structure of the silicaalumina-oxygen framework. This explains two phenomena: The lack of solid solution between two potential end members of a solid solution series (for instance phillipsite-gismondite), and the large number of different zeolites in nature, where a great variety in the ratios of available alkali and alkaline earths ions must be expected. Any classification of zeolites becomes still more difficult in view of the fact that conversions among different groups (chabazite → phillipsite) and different structures (three-dimensional framework → fibre) take place relatively easily. The most generally used method for estimating the basin-wide sequence and scaling of first and last occurrences, based on their occurrence in local sections, is Shaw’s graphic correlation method. The key step in this method is the determination of the line of correlation (LOC), which represents the best estimate of the correlation between two local sections, or between a local section and a composite standard. In general, available techniques for fitting the LOC for multiple sections are tedious, subjective, or computationally expensive. A new method employing genetic algorithms can dramatically reduce the effort involved in determining the LOC and produces stable biostratigraphic correlations and composite range charts objectively and efficiently. Genetic algorithms are an artificial intelligence technique that excels in locating the optimum solution from a large number of alternative choices. In the case of the LOC, the alternative choices are the number of line segments comprising the complete line and the positions of each segment’s beginning and end points. For a given number of segments, a wide range of alternative LOCs can be rapidly evaluated and a potential optimum fit determined. It is also possible to estimate the point when no further refinement of the fit by adding line segments is necessary. Genetic algorithms can also be applied to other methods for quantitative biostratigraphy.  相似文献

A quasi-synoptic survey of a eulerian small grid was carried out twice during mid-spring 2002 in the Gulf of Lions, NW Mediterranean Sea. Analysis of hydrological core parameters reveal for the first time, in the region of freshwater influence (ROFI) of the Rhone River, the presence of low-salinity water (LSW) lenses. The present work details the biogeochemical and ecological functioning of the two LSW lenses from a combined analysis of nutrients and organic matter content, taxonomic assemblages of phytoplankton, primary productivity measurements and nitrogen regeneration fluxes. During the first survey, the lens observed is only detached in part from the Rhone River plume and is considered as a juvenile lens. In contrast, the second lens is totally detached from the plume forming a confined 3D structure with a large vertical development and is considered as having a more advanced maturity. A second survey, 4 days later, provided the opportunity to propose a complete sequence of ecological functioning of the LSW lenses, from their formation to a late stage of maturity just before dispersion. Nitrate contents and dissolved organic matter remain in high concentrations during the juvenile stages while the little available phosphate is rapidly exhausted. In such, an unbalanced-nutrient environment picoplankton appear to out-compete bacterioplankton for phosphate and other resources such as ammonium. In turn, the dominance of such prokaryotic assemblages could have involved the rapid development of microzooplankton. The sudden increase in phosphate observed in a more advanced stage of lens maturity is attributed to intense P-regeneration driven by the large abundance of microzooplankton. This top-down control does not seem to enable the prokaryotic assemblages to bloom again but the high concentrations of phosphate and nitrate favour the development of larger phytoplankton. These autotrophic communities rapidly exhaust nutrients and then decline in the confined ecosystem of the LSW lens that subsequently evolves towards oligotrophic conditions. In the observed last stage, small-sized phytoplankton again dominates the microbial assemblages and the trophic regime is mainly based on regenerated production. The long lifetime of the LSW lens compared to that of the Rhone River plume enables a deep transformation of the initial characteristics of the Rhone River freshwaters both in terms of nutrients balance and microbial food webs, especially through trophic cascading effects. Hence, we show that the LSW lenses have the potential to transfer nutrients and organic matter offshore but the nature (inorganic vs. organic) of the dominant compound exported will depend on the maturity of the lens at the time of its dispersion.  相似文献

Since the eruption which affected Quito in AD 1660, Guagua Pichincha has been considered a hazardous volcano. Based on field studies and twenty 14C dates, this paper discusses the eruptive activity of this volcano, especially that of the last 2000 years. Three major Plinian eruptions with substantial pumice discharge occurred in the 1st century, the 10th century, and in AD 1660. The ages of organic paleosols and charcoal from block-and-ash flow and fallout deposits indicate that these eruptions occurred near the end of 100 to 200 year-long cycles of discontinuous activity which was comprised of dome growth episodes and minor pumice fallouts. The first cycle took place from ~ AD 1 to 140. The second one developed during the 9th and 10th centuries, lasted 150–180 yr, and included the largest Plinian event, with a VEI of 5. The third, historic cycle, about 200 yr in duration, includes pyroclastic episodes around AD 1450 and AD 1500, explosive activity between AD 1566 and AD 1582, possible precursors of the 1660 eruption in the early decades of the 17th century, and finally the 1660 eruption (VEI 4). A fourth event probably occurred around AD 500, but its authenticity requires confirmation. The Plinian events occurred at the end of these cycles which were separated by repose periods of at least 300 yr. Older volcanic activity of similar type occurred between ~ 4000 and ~ 3000 yr BP.  相似文献
