The effects of pressure and oxygen fugacity (fO2) on trace element partitioning between pargasitic amphibole and alkali-basaltic melts have been determined at pressures from 1.5 to 2.5 GPa and oxygen fugacities at 2 log units above and below the nickel–nickel oxide buffer. Amphibole crystallization experiments were performed in a piston cylinder apparatus and partition coefficients between amphibole and quenched melt of large-ion-lithophile elements (LILE: Rb, Sr, Ba), high-field-strength elements (HFSE: Zr, Nb, Ta, Hf, U, Th) and rare-earth elements (REE: La to Lu; +Y) were measured with a LASER ablation inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometer. Increasing pressure from 1.5 to 2.5 GPa at similar temperatures and approximately constant fO2 increases D Rb but decreases D Zr and D Hf and D REE (D La, D Ce, D Pr). An empirical relationship was observed between D Zr and (Ti/Al)M2 in the amphibole, which can be described by:
Increasing the fO2 by ∼4 log units (∼NNO–2.0 to ∼NNO+2.2) at similar temperatures and constant pressure increases D Ba and D Nd but decreases D Ti. An increase in pressure or fO2 decreases the maximum partition coefficient (D o ), the Young's modulus (E) and the optimum ionic radius (r o ) of the A-, M2- and M4-lattice sites. The calculated r o values from the monovalent cations (Na, K, Rb) in the A site and the quadrivalent cations (Ti, Hf, Zr) in the M2 lattice sites suggests that amphiboles crystallized from alkaline basalt material have smaller 〈A-O〉 and 〈M2-O〉, mean bond-lengths than those formed from pargasitic materials at identical pressures and fO2's. The measured partition coefficients were used to calculate trace element concentrations in melts formed by partial melting of amphibole-bearing peridotite. This modeling demonstrates those changes in either the pressure or fO2 of melting can exert a significant effect on Rb/HFSE ratios in the melts and thus help explain the wide variations of these ratios sometimes observed in basaltic rock suites. Fracture interaction mechanisms and reactivation of natural discontinuities under fluid pressurization conditions can represent critical issues in risk assessment of caprock integrity. A field injection test, carried out in a damage fault zone at the decameter scale, i.e., mesoscale, has been studied using a distinct element model. Given the complex structural nature of the damage fault zone hydraulically loaded, the contribution of fracture sets on the bulk permeability has been investigated. It has been shown that their orientation for a given in situ stress field plays a major role. Based on these results, a simpler model with a fluid-driven fracture intersecting a second fracture has been set up to perform a sensitivity analysis. It is in presence of a minimum differential stress value with a minimum angle with the maximum principal stress that the second fracture could be both, hydraulically and mechanically reactivated. Results also showed that in the vicinity of the fluid-driven fracture, a natural fracture will offer contrasted hydromechanical responses on each side of the intersection depending on the stress conditions and its orientation with respect to the stress field. In this case, we show that a hydromechanical decoupling can occur along the same plane. These results provide insights into fracture-controlled permeability of fault zones depending on the properties of the fractures and their hydromechanical interactions for a given in situ stress field.

This study seeks to gauge how far China’s container-related dynamics between 1990 and 2005 fit into the wider perspective about transport and development within developing countries. In particular, attention is focussed on the role of specific modes to determine the extent of the penetration of containers within China. Before addressing these key issues extant models relating to an understanding of port and transport evolution in less-developed countries are recalled, synthesized and used as a base upon which an appropriate review of China’s case can be conducted. Applying them to China’s northern, central and southern port ranges not only helps assess the efficacy of these models but also highlights the contribution of individual modes.

Metamorphic study on Triassic schists in the internal zone of the Indo-Burma range, essentially based on chlorite–mica equilibrium in metapelites, allows a PT path to be quantified. During the prograde metamorphism, the geothermic gradient evolves from that of a ‘normal’ crust (30 °C km?1) to that of a thickened crust (18 °C km?1). The peak conditions are around 8 kbar and 450 °C. This thickening (25–30 km) is probably made in a wedge set up between the Late Cretaceous and the Eocene, in front of the obduction. The obtained cold retrograde path requires a mechanism allowing thermal re-equilibration, implying slow exhumation. It occurred along a shear zone that put into contact the micaschists of the core with the Triassic schists of the roof. To cite this article: A. Socquet et al., C. R. The computation on a relatively short time of a quantity, related to the largest Lyapunov Characteristic Exponent, called Fast Lyapunov Indicator allows to discriminate between ordered and weak chaotic motion and also, under certain conditions, between resonant and non resonant regular orbits. The aim of this paper is to study numerically the relationship between the Fast Lyapunov Indicator values and the order of periodic orbits. Using the two-dimensional standard map as a model problem we have found that the Fast Lyapunov Indicator increases as the logarithm of the order of periodic orbits up to a given order. For higher order the Fast Lyapunov Indicator grows linearly with the order of the periodic orbits. We provide a simple model to explain the relationship that we have found between the values of the Fast Lyapunov Indicator, the order of the periodic orbits and also the minimum number of iterations needed to obtain the Fast Lyapunov Indicator values.  相似文献

In a previous work [Guzzo et al. DCDS B 5, 687–698 (2005)] we have provided numerical evidence of global diffusion occurring in slightly perturbed integrable Hamiltonian systems and symplectic maps. We have shown that even if a system is sufficiently close to be integrable, global diffusion occurs on a set with peculiar topology, the so-called Arnold web, and is qualitatively different from Chirikov diffusion, occurring in more perturbed systems. In the present work we study in more detail the chaotic behaviour of a set of 90 orbits which diffuse on the Arnold web. We find that the largest Lyapunov exponent does not seem to converge for the individual orbits while the mean Lyapunov exponent on the set of 90 orbits does converge. In other words, a kind of average mixing characterizes the diffusion. Moreover, the Local Lyapunov Characteristic Numbers (LLCNs), on individual orbits appear to reflect the different zones of the Arnold web revealed by the Fast Lyapunov Indicator. Finally, using the LLCNs we study the ergodicity of the chaotic part of the Arnold web.  相似文献

Measurements of the polarisation state of the atmosphere were performed at Tenerife in June–July 1997, in the framework of ACE‐2 (second Aerosol Characterization Experiment), by 2 ground‐based instruments: RefPol (a LOA prototype) which took measurements at 445, 665, 870, 1610 nm in the solar principal plane; and an automatic CIMEL (CE 318) sun/sky‐photometer which measured polarised radiation at 870 nm in the same observational geometry. Measurements acquired during the campaign, as well as AERONET (AErosol RObotic NETwork) measurements acquired at the sites of Cape Verde and M'Bour, are processed with an algorithm determining the polarised single‐scattering sky‐radiance due to aerosols, directly proportional to the aerosol polarised phase function (representing the probability to scatter polarised radiation in the direction of the scattering angle). A good correlation between the Ångström exponent α, representing the spectral dependence of the extinction measurements, and the polarised phase function is observed on each set of data. The uncertainty of retrievals at 445 nm makes the determination of the spectral dependence of polarisation inconclusive but does not prevent confirming the dependence of the aerosol polarised phase function on α, at all wavelengths. An Ångström exponent of 1 corresponds to a polarised phase function of around 0.1 (±0.04), at 870 nm and at a scattering angle of 60°. For α between 0 and 0.4, the average value of the polarised phase function is 0.05. The correlation shows that polarisation is more sensitive to small particles than to large particles. The discrepancy between retrievals and Mie calculations from an AERONET size distribution, inverted from Izaña measurements acquired during a dust event, suggests the presence of small particles, not detected by total sky‐radiance measurements.  相似文献

Abstract— It is now established that a large extraterrestrial object hit the Earth at the end of the Cretaceous period, about 65 Ma ago. We have investigated Re‐Os, Hf‐W, and Mn‐Cr isotope systems in sediments from the Cretaceous and the Paleogene in order to characterize the type of impactor. Within the Cretaceous‐Tertiary (K‐T) boundary layer, extraterrestrial material is mixed with terrestrial material, causing a dilution of the extraterrestrial isotope signature that is difficult to quantify. A phase essentially composed of Ni‐rich spinel, formed in the atmosphere mainly from melted projectile material, is likely to contain the extraterrestrial isotopic signature of the impactor. We show that the analysis of spinel is indeed the best approach to determine the initial isotope composition of the impactor, and that W and Cr isotopes confirm that the projectile was a carbonaceous chondrite.  相似文献

The study of the stochasticity of the asteroid belt requires the analysis of a large number of orbits. We detect the dynamical character of a set of 5 400 asteroids using the Fast Lyapunov Indicator, a method of analysis closely related to the computation of the Lyapunov Characteristic Exponents, but cheaper in computational time. For both regular and chaotic orbits we try to associate the motion to the underlying resonances network. For it we consider different methods of classification of rational numbers proposed by number theory, and we choose the one which seems to be strictly related to the dynamical behaviour of a system. We have dated by the K/Ar method the oldest volcanic formations known in the Azores archipelago. The results show a development of this oceanic island system from 5.5 m.y. to the present day.The age pattern is not compatible with a simple migration over a small fixed hot spot, but, plotting tectonic directions which control the volcanism versus age and distance to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, a simple relationship seems to appear showing an anisotropic but fixed distribution of stress orientation at least for the last 0.7 m.y.  相似文献
