This work reports the results of an experimental programme aimed at investigating the in-plane behaviour of clay-brick masonry walls externally strengthened by carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips. Particularly, four different geometrical layouts were considered for the CFRP strips, though keeping unchanged the quantity of composites employed in each wall. Firstly, a preliminary experimental work was carried out on samples of the constitutive materials for quantifying their key mechanical properties and evaluating the bond behaviour of FRP strips on the masonry substrates. Then, eleven cyclic shear-compression tests were performed to observe the response of strengthened walls and the influence of the strengthening layouts under investigation. The proposed experimental report is intended as a contribution to the current state of knowledge about the behaviour of FRP-strengthened masonry walls: it is available to assess the accuracy and possibly improve the predictive capacity of design-oriented capacity models. Finally, the comparison of the reported experimental results with the predictions obtained by applying the analytical relationships proposed by a recently issued guideline for FRP strengthening of masonry structures is proposed.  相似文献

Structural aspects of humic substances (HSs) in marine waters of Engaño Bay (Atlantic Ocean) and water from the Chubut River (Patagonia, Argentina) were compared. The HSs were isolated, purified, and analyzed using a multiple-method approach for structural characterization: elemental analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance (13C and 1H NMR), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-visible absorption and fluorescence. Similarities between the marine and freshwater components were evaluated on the basis of N and O contents, H/C and C/N atomic ratios, infrared bands from nitrogen-containing and carboxylic groups, percentage of functional groups obtained from NMR spectra, spectral slope coefficient of absorption spectra, absorbance ratios at 250 and 365 nm (E 2/E 3), aromaticity, excitation–emission matrices and fluorescence quantum yield. Both the Engaño Bay and Chubut River waters have HSs that are mainly composed of fulvic acids (FAs); although they are very similar, they may be distinguished from one another. Similarities include the predominance of aliphatic carbon content (low aromatic content); however, the water bodies differed in their content of proteins and carboxylic acids. The Engaño Bay FAs have mainly an aquatic origin; although the Chubut River FAs suggest a similar aquagenic origin, there is also evidence of contributions from pedogenic FAs.  相似文献

The copper-rich, tourmaline-bearing Donoso breccia pipe is one among more than 15 different mineralized breccias in the giant (>50 million metric tonnes of copper) Miocene and Pliocene Río Blanco-Los Bronces copper deposit in the high Andes of central Chile. This breccia pipe, bracketed in age between 5.2 and 4.9 Ma, has dimensions of 500 by 700 m at the current surface 3,670 m above sea level. Its roots have yet to be encountered, and it is >300 m in diameter at the depth of the deepest drill holes. The Donoso breccia is, for the most part, monolithic, containing clasts of the equigranular quartz monzonite pluton which hosts the pipe. It is matrix supported, with between 5 and 25% of the total rock volume consisting of breccia-matrix minerals, which include tourmaline, quartz, chalcopyrite, pyrite, specularite, and lesser amounts of bornite and anhydrite. An open pit mine, centered on this breccia pipe, has a current production of 50,000 tonnes of ore per day at an average grade of 1.2% copper, and copper grade in the breccia matrix is significantly higher. Measured '18O for tourmaline and quartz from the matrix of the Donoso breccia at different levels of the pipe range from +6.9 to +12.0‰, and measured 'D in tourmaline ranges from -73 to -95‰. Temperatures of crystallization of these minerals, as determined by the highest homogenization temperatures of highly saline fluid inclusions, range from 400 to >690°C. When corrected for these temperatures, the stable isotope data indicate that fluids from which these breccia-matrix minerals precipitated were magmatic, with '18O between +5.6 to +9.1‰ and 'D between -51 to -80‰. These isotopic data preclude participation of a significant amount of meteoric water in the formation of the Donoso breccia. They support a model in which brecciation is caused by expansion of magmatic fluids exsolved from a cooling pluton, and breccia-matrix minerals, including copper sulfides, precipitated from the same magmatic fluids responsible for brecciation. Sericitic alteration of clasts in the breccia was also caused by these magmatic fluids. Different types of fluid inclusions imply that several different magmatic fluids were involved in formation of the Donoso breccia. These include high-temperature, highly saline, non-boiling fluids, trapped in inclusions that homogenize by halite dissolution, which probably exsolved from a magma cooling under relatively high (>1 kbar) lithostatic pressure conditions, consistent with geologic constraints. Other high-temperature, highly saline fluids are trapped in inclusions that homogenize by vapor-bubble disappearance and are spatially associated with vapor-rich inclusions, suggesting either phase separation (boiling) or simultaneous separation of immiscible brine and vapor from a magma cooling at lower hydrostatic pressure conditions. Both types of high-temperature, highly saline fluids circulated intermittently, as pressure fluctuated between lithostatic and hydrostatic conditions because of episodes of sealing and rebrecciation.  相似文献

Equilibrium boron isotopic fractionations between trigonal B(OH)3 and tetragonal B(OH)4 aqueous species have been calculated at high P-T conditions using measured vibrational spectra (Raman and IR) and force-field modeling to compute reduced partition function ratios for B-isotopic exchange following Urey’s theory. The calculated isotopic fractionation factor at 300 K, α3/4 = 1.0176(2), is slightly lower than the formerly calculated value of α3/4 = 1.0193 (Kakihana and Kotaka, 1977), due to differences in the determined vibrational frequencies. The effect of pressure on α3/4 up to 10 GPa and 723 K is shown to be negligible relative to temperature or speciation (pH) effects. Implications for the interpretation of boron fractionation in experimental and natural systems are discussed. We also show that the relationship between seawater-mineral B isotope fractionation and pH can be expressed using two variables, α3/4 on one hand, and the pKa of the boric acid-borate equilibrium on the other hand. This latter value is given by the equilibrium of boron species in water for the carbonate-water exchange, but could be governed by mineral surface properties in the case of clays. This may allow defining intrinsic paleo-pHmeters from B isotope fractionation between carbonate and authigenic minerals. Finally, it is shown that fractionation of boron isotopes can be rationalized in terms of the changes in 1) coordination of B from trigonal to tetrahedral in both fluids and minerals; and 2) the ligand nature around B from OH in the fluid and some hydrous minerals to non-hydrogenated O in many minerals. Relationships are established that allow predicting the isotopic fractionation factor of B between minerals and fluid.  相似文献

A novel approach is proposed for evaluating regional climate models based on the comparison of empirical relationships among model outcome variables. The approach is actually a quantitative adaptation of the method for evaluating global climate models proposed by Betts (Bull Am Meteorol Soc 85:1673–1688, 2004). Three selected relationships among different magnitudes involved in water and energy land surface budgets are firstly established using daily re-analysis data. The selected relationships are obtained for an area encompassing two river basins in the southern Iberian Peninsula corresponding to 2 months, representative of dry and wet seasons. The same corresponding relations are also computed for each of the thirteen regional simulations of the ENSEMBLES project over the same area. The usage of a metric based on the Hellinger coefficient allows a quantitative estimation of how well models are performing in simulating the relations among surface magnitudes. Finally, a series of six rankings of the thirteen regional climate models participating in the ENSEMBLES project is obtained based on their ability to simulate such surface processes.  相似文献

The model of Paillard and Parrenin (Earth Planet Sci Lett 227:263–271, 2004) was modified to obtain a closer fit to δ18O and CO2 time series for the last 800 kyr. The model performance can be improved if its CO2 sensitivity to I65 insolation is eliminated and if different response times are assumed for ablation/accumulation of ice. Correlations between simulated and experimental time series for CO2 and ice volume V increase from 0.59 and 0.63 to 0.79 and 0.88, respectively. According to these models, terminations are produced by I65 amplification through CO2-T and T-CO2 feedbacks, in synergy with an extra CO2 contribution from the deep ocean. This contribution is strongly dependent on ice-sheet extent and ice volume (or alternatively, CO2 concentration, which is a good proxy of Antarctic temperature) but is insensitive to Southern Ocean (SO) insolation on 21 February (I60). Change of deep SO state may be the “order parameter” for nonlinear deglacial changes. According to these models, 100 kyr periodicity of glacial cycles arises from the characteristic time of Antarctic ice sheet advance to the continental slope.  相似文献
