Fish discards and by-catch issues are highly topical subjects that are permanently under a social focus. Two main approaches are being considered to address this discard problem: reducing the by-catch and increasing by-catch utilization. Interest in increased by-catch valorization may arise from a greater demand for fish products, such as the development of new markets for previously discarded species, the use of low-value specimens for aquaculture or the creation of value-added fish products for the food, pharmaceutical or cosmetic industries. However, contaminants present in fish discards may be transferred to their valorized products, leading to possible long-term bioaccumulation and subsequent adverse health effects. In this valorization framework, the aim is to promote responsible and sustainable management of marine resources. The pollutant levels in catches from European fisheries and the best available decontamination techniques for marine valorized discards/by-products are compiled and analyzed in this work.  相似文献

We consider an expanding three-dimensional (3-D) piston as a driver of an MHD shock wave. It is assumed that the source-region surface accelerates over a certain time interval to achieve a particular maximum velocity. Such an expansion creates a large-amplitude wave in the ambient plasma. Owing to the nonlinear evolution of the wavefront, its profile steepens and after a certain time and distance a discontinuity forms, marking the onset of the shock formation. We investigate how the formation time and distance depend on the acceleration phase duration, the maximum expansion velocity (defining also acceleration), the Alfvén velocity (defining also Mach number), and the initial size of the piston. The model differs from the 1-D case, since in the 3-D evolution, a decrease of the wave amplitude with distance must be taken into account. We present basic results, focusing on the timing of the shock formation in the low- and high-plasma-beta environment. We find that the shock-formation time and the shock-formation distance are (1) approximately proportional to the acceleration phase duration; (2) shorter for a higher expansion velocity; (3) larger in a higher Alfvén speed environment; (4) only weakly dependent on the initial source size; (5) shorter for a stronger acceleration; and (6) shorter for a larger Alfvén Mach number of the source surface expansion. To create a shock causing a high-frequency type II burst and the Moreton wave, the source region expansion should, according to our results, achieve a velocity on the order of 1000 km?s?1 within a few minutes, in a low Alfvén velocity environment.  相似文献

In order to assess the response of benthic foraminifera to trace element pollution, a study of benthic foraminiferal assemblages was carried out into sediment samples collected from the Santa Gilla lagoon (Sardinia, Italy). The lagoon has been contaminated by industrial waste, mainly trace elements, as well as by agricultural and domestic effluent. The analysis of surficial sediment shows enrichment in trace elements, including Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn. Biotic and abiotic data, analyzed with multivariate techniques of statistical analysis, reveal a distinct separation of both the highly polluted and less polluted sampling sites. The innermost part of the lagoon, comprising the industrial complex at Macchiareddu, is exposed to a high load of trace elements which are probably enhanced by their accumulation in the finer sediment fraction. This area reveals lower diversity and higher percentages of abnormalities when compared to the outermost part of the lagoon.  相似文献

Ground and aeromagnetic data are combined to characterize the onshore and offshore magnetic properties of the central Philippines, whose tectonic setting is complicated by opposing subduction zones, large-scale strike-slip faulting and arc–continent collision. The striking difference between the magnetic signatures of the islands with established continental affinity and those of the islands belonging to the island arc terrane is observed. Negative magnetic anomalies are registered over the continental terrane, while positive magnetic anomalies are observed over the Philippine Mobile Belt. Several linear features in the magnetic anomaly map coincide with the trace of the Philippine Fault and its splays. Power spectral analysis of the magnetic data reveals that the Curie depth across the central Philippines varies. The deepest point of the magnetic crust is beneath Mindoro Island at 32 km. The Curie surface shallows toward the east: the Curie surface is 21 km deep between the islands of Sibuyan and Masbate, and 18 km deep at the junction of Buruanga Peninsula and Panay Island. The shallowest Curie surface (18 km) coincides with the boundary of the arc–continent collision, signifying the obduction of mantle rocks over the continental basement. Comparison of the calculated Curie depth with recent crustal thickness models reveals the same eastwards thinning trend and range of depths. The coincidence of the magnetic boundary and the density boundary may support the existence of a compositional boundary that reflects the crust–mantle interface.  相似文献

Ilmenite has played an important role in the petrogenesis of lunar high-Ti picritic magmas, and armalcolite is another high-Ti oxide that was first discovered on the moon. In this study, we examined the thermodynamic stability of ilmenite and armalcolite in the context of lunar cumulate mantle overturn. Two starting compositions were explored, an ilmenite-bearing dunite (olivine + ilmenite) and an ilmenite-bearing harzburgite (olivine + orthopyroxene + ilmenite). Experiments were conducted using a 19.05 mm piston-cylinder apparatus at temperatures of 1235-1475 °C and pressures of 1-2 GPa. In runs with the ilmenite-bearing dunite mixture, ilmenite is stable in the subsolidus assemblage at least up to 1450 °C and 2 GPa. In runs with the ilmenite-bearing harzburgite starting mixture, ilmenite is stable at pressures greater than 1.4 GPa, and armalcolite is stable at lower pressures. Solidi for both starting compositions were determined, and the phase boundary between ilmenite- and armalcolite-bearing harzburgite was shown to have little dependence on temperature. During lunar cumulate overturn, sinking ilmenite formed near the end of lunar magma ocean solidification transforms into armalcolite when in contact with harzburgite cumulates at depths of less than 280 km in the lunar mantle. Inefficient overturn could leave isolated, inhomogeneously distributed pockets of armalcolite-bearing harzburgite in the upper lunar mantle, underlain by an ilmenite-bearing lower lunar mantle. These high-Ti oxide-bearing harzburgitic pockets can serve as potential sources for the generation of high-Ti magmas through partial melting or through assimilation of high-Ti minerals during transport of low-Ti picritic magmas in the lunar mantle.FeO-MgO exchange between olivine and either ilmenite or armalcolite was also examined in this study. We found the FeO-MgO distribution coefficient to be effectively independent of temperature for the pressures, temperatures, and compositions explored, with an average value of 0.179 ± 0.008 for olivine/ilmenite and 0.319 ± 0.021 for olivine/armalcolite. Given the bulk composition of an overturned lunar cumulate mantle, our measured FeO-MgO distribution coefficients can be used to estimate the Mg# of coexisting minerals in armalcolite- or ilmenite-bearing harzburgite and dunite in the overturned lunar mantle. Finally, the transformation from ilmenite-bearing harzburgite to armalcolite-bearing harzburgite results in a density increase of up to 2%. Large armalcolite-bearing cumulate bodies in the upper lunar mantle may be detectable in future lunar geophysical experiments.  相似文献

The Amnay Ophiolitic Complex in Mindoro, the Philippines, is considered an emplaced Cenozoic South China Sea oceanic lithosphere as a result of the collision between the Palawan microcontinental block and the Philippine mobile belt. Middle Oligocene sedimentary rocks intercalated with dominantly MORB-like pillow lavas and volcanic flows suggest the generation of this ophiolite complex in an intermediate spreading ridge within a back-arc basin setting. The volcanic rock suite geochemistry also manifests a slab component suggesting that it is a supra-subduction zone ophiolite. Petrography of the gabbros shows a plagioclase-clinopyroxene crystallization order consistent with a back-arc basin setting. Spinel and pyroxene geochemistry shows that the lherzolites and aluminous-spinel harzburgites are products of low degrees of partial melting. The chromitites hosted by the harzburgites could have not been associated with the MORB-like volcanic suites, gabbros, lherzolites and aluminous-spinel harzburgites. The chromitites are products of mantle sources that have undergone higher degrees of partial melting that would have involved the presence of water. The study of this ophiolitic complex gives us a glimpse of the characteristics of the South China Sea.  相似文献
