Imposex and organotin (OT) tissue contamination of the netted whelk Nassarius reticulatus (L.) were assessed in the continental shelves around the main estuaries of the central coast of Portugal (Lisbon: Tagus estuary; Setúbal: Sado estuary) and the main coastal lagoon in the Southern of Portugal (Faro: Ria Formosa). Pollution levels were higher in areas of more intense boat traffic and shipyard activities and imposex showed a clear decreasing gradient from the estuaries to the offshore, in relation to a similar gradient of tissue contamination by tributyltin. Remarkably, imposex was extensively spread over the adjacent continental shelves of Tagus and Sado estuaries. The current work shows that TBT pollution is undoubtedly a matter of concern not only for the above estuaries where harbours are implanted but also for the adjacent continental shelves, regardless the massive dilution of contaminants that may occur in these deeper areas.  相似文献

We investigated systematically the micromechanics of compaction in two carbonates of porosity above 30%, Majella grainstone and Saint Maximin limestone. The composition, grain size and pore surface area of these rocks were determined. Hydrostatic compression experiments were performed under dry and wet conditions beyond the onset of grain crushing. A significant water weakening effect was observed in both rocks. A set of conventional triaxial experiments was also performed on both rocks under dry conditions at confining pressures ranging from 3 to 31 MPa. Microstructural observations were carried out on the deformed samples. The mechanical behavior of these high porosity carbonates is dominated by shear-enhanced compaction associated in most cases with strain hardening. Stress-induced cracking and grain crushing are the dominant micromechanisms of deformation in both rocks. In Majella grainstone, compactive shear bands appeared at low confinement, in qualitative agreement with the deformation bands observed in the field. At higher confining pressures, compaction localization was inhibited and homogeneous cataclastic flow developed. In Saint Maximin limestone, compaction localization was observed at all confining pressures. An increasing number of compactive shear bands at various orientations appeared with increasing strain. These new data suggest that compaction localization is important in the mechanical compaction of high porosity carbonates.  相似文献

The spatial–temporal variations of a dune system can be determined by using diverse ‘geomatic’ methodologies: geodesy, global positioning system (GPS) and photogrammetry. In the case of the Liencres dune system, a study will be carried out using the ‘close‐range’ photogrammetry technique and the topography technique (total station and GPS). In order to determine the dynamic of the dune system it is necessary to repeat the process of study after a specific interval of time. For this reason, three dimensional data should be available in two different time periods, between which the displacement of the object of analysis (the front portion of the dune) will be significant enough to evaluate its magnitude. This work analyses the viability of photogrammetry for the determination of the spatial–temporal changes of a coastal parabolic dune. Two factors have been analysed: first, the comparison of the photogrammetric results with the results obtained from topographic methods (total station and GPS), and second, the quantification of the displacement of the dune system. The analysis of the correspondence between the movement of different parts of the dune and the influence of the intensity and direction of the prevailing wind in the area is also desired. The dune advanced 12·15 ± 0·06 m (an average of 8·5 m/yr), and the partial implications for the dynamic of human modified processes on the natural park have been established. In the linear seismic design of buildings, the (deterministic) substructure method is a customary and efficient approach. However, the existence of spatial variability in the parameters of the mechanical model of the soil, as well as parametric errors, calls for the use of probabilistic approaches in order to provide a reliable design of the structure. The construction of probabilistic models of the soil impedance matrix provides a natural path to such approaches within the context of the substructure method. Two main techniques are described in this paper: a parametric one, typically using the stochastic finite element method, and a nonparametric one, which was introduced more recently. The latter is explored more specifically, and the possibilities it offers in terms of seismic design are presented. In particular, it is shown that it allows for the estimation of quantiles of the quantities of interest, rather than confidence intervals, which lead to highly conservative design. Seed germination was compared among wild, in situ-managed (wild plants let standing in areas cleared for agriculture), and cultivated populations of the columnar cacti Stenocereus pruinosus, Polaskia chichipe, Myrtillocactus schenckii, and Polaskia chende, species representing a gradient from higher to lower management intensity, respectively. We hypothesized that seeds from cultivated populations have higher water requirements to germinate than seeds of other populations, and that such difference is stronger in species more intensely managed. Germination was evaluated under water potential treatments at 0.0, ?0.2, and ?0.4 MPa. Interspecific differences were identified; germination rates markedly decreased in S. pruinosus and P. chichipe as water potential reduced. M. schenckii seeds germinated better at ?0.2 MPa, and seeds of P. chende in all treatments. Seed germination of wild and cultivated populations was similar in all cases and, therefore, at the population level domestication does not appear to have influenced variations in germination of the studied cacti species. However, experiments to test whether germination of seeds from plants with clear signs of domestication differs with seeds from other plants and their differential germination and seedling survival in wild, in situ-managed and cultivated environments could help to precise the influence of domestication on these plants.  相似文献

Spinifex-textured sills (i.e., veins) characterized by komatiitic magmas that have intruded their own volcanic-piles have long been recognized. For instance, in the early 1970s, Pyke and coworkers, in their classic work at Pyke Hill in Munro Township, noted that not all spinifex-bearing ultramafic rocks formed as lava flows, rather some were clearly emplaced as small dikes and sills. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain spinifex-textured sills: intrusion into a cold host, filter pressing, or drainage of residual liquid. However, these do not satisfactorily explain the phenomenon. Field and petrographic observations at Pyke Hill and Serpentine Mountain demonstrate that spinifex-bearing komatiite sills and dikes were emplaced during channel inflation processes when new magma was intruded into a cooler, semi-consolidated but permeable cumulate material. Komatiitic liquids were intruded into the olivine cumulate rocks near the boundary between the spinifex and the cumulate zones of well-organized to organized komatiite flows. Spinifex-textured sills are generally tabular in morphology, stacked one above another, with curviplanar contacts sub-parallel to stratigraphy. Some sills exhibit complex digitated apophyses. Thinner sills typically have a random olivine spinifex texture similar, though generally composed of coarser crystals, to that of komatiite lava flows. Thicker sills exhibit more complex organization of their constituent crystals characterized by zones of random olivine spinifex, overlying zones of organized coarse spinifex crystals similar to those found in lava flows. They have striking coarse dendritic spinifex zones composed of very large olivine crystals, up to several centimetres long and up to 1 cm wide that are not observed in lava flows. Typically, at the sill margins, the cumulate material of the host flow is composed of euhedral to subhedral olivine crystals that are larger than those distal to the contact. Many of these margin-crystals have either concentric overgrowth shells or dendritic olivine overgrowths that grew from the cumulate-sill contact toward the sill interior. The dendrites grew on pre-existing olivine cumulate at the contact in response to a sharp temperature gradient imposed by the intrusion of hot material, whereas the concentric overgrowths formed as new melt percolated into the unconsolidated groundmass of the host-flow cumulate material. Spinifex-textured sills and dikes occur in well-organized to organized flows that are interpreted to have formed by “breakouts” above and peripheral to lava pathways (channels/conduits) as a result of inflation that accompanied voluminous komatiitic eruptions responsible for the construction and channelization of komatiitic flow fields. The spinifex-textured dikes and sills represent komatiitic lava that was originally emplaced into the channel roof during periods of episodic inflation that resulted in lava breakouts and was subsequently trapped in the “roof rocks” during periods of channel deflation. Accordingly, the occurrence of spinifex-textured sills and dikes may indicate proximity to, and aid in the identification and delineation of lava channel-ways that could potentially host Ni–Cu–(PGE) mineralization within komatiitic lava flow-fields.  相似文献

Omai is a high tonnage, low-grade, world-class gold deposit located in the Paleoproterozoic Guiana Shield. It is the second most important gold deposit in the Guiana Shield (after Las Cristinas, Venezuela), and one of the largest in South America (4.0 million oz.). Sm-Nd and Sr isotope data are presented for host rocks and for scheelite from auriferous quartz-carbonate-scheelite-sulfide-telluride veins from the Omai deposit. Gold-bearing veins are hosted by the Paleoproterozoic Barama-Mazaruni Supergroup, a greenstone belt sequence consisting of mafic volcanic rocks interbedded with sedimentary rocks that are intruded by quartz-feldspar porphyry and rhyolite dikes. This lithologic sequence was folded and metamorphosed to lower greenschist facies during the Paleoproterozoic Trans-Amazonian orogeny. The volcano-sedimentary unit was intruded by a post-tectonic quartz monzodiorite-diorite-hornblendite stock. Initial Nd isotope ratios for the Omai volcanic rocks range from ɛNd=+2.1 to +4.2. These values suggest that this part of the Guiana Shield was a site of new crust formation during the Paleoproterozoic and was not contaminated by older (Archean), reworked continental crust. Initial Nd isotope ratios for the Omai stock range between +0.5 and +2.3, which suggest limited contamination with previously formed continental crust. Although the Nd isotopic ratios of gold-related scheelites overlap with those of the host rocks, particularly the tholeiitic basalts at the interpreted time of vein emplacement, the lack of both isotopic mixing and significant Nd movement during the hydrothermal process suggest that the Nd isotope composition can be used to determine the isotopic characteristics of the ore fluid source area. At Omai, the ore fluid is largely derived from a radiogenic Nd source, represented by mantle or lower crustal reservoirs. Strontium isotope ratios for the scheelites cluster tightly between 0.7019 and 0.7021. The Sr isotope data suggest that unlike Nd, Sr was significantly mobile during the hydrothermal process. The fluids responsible for the Omai deposit may have picked up Sr along the flow path. The constant low Sr isotope values of scheelites probably reflect the key role that the local tholeiitic basalts played as the main source of Sr in the fluids.
