In this first part of the work, we develop macroscopic models for migration and diffusion–migration of ionic species in saturated porous media, based on periodic homogenization. The prior application is chloride transport in cementitious materials. The dimensional analysis of Nernst–Planck equation lets appear to dimensionless numbers characterizing the ionic transfer in the porous medium. Using experimental data obtained from electrodiffusion tests on cement‐based materials (Part II), these dimensionless numbers are linked to the perturbation parameter ?. For a strong imposed electrical field, the asymptotic expansion of Nernst–Planck equation leads to a macroscopic model where the migration is predominant. For a weak imposed electrical field or in natural diffusion, we obtain a macroscopic model coupling diffusion and migration at the same order. In both models, the expression of the homogenized diffusion tensor is identical and only involves the geometric properties of the material microstructure. We derive a compositional compressible two-phase, liquid and gas, flow model for numerical simulations of hydrogen migration
in deep geological repository for radioactive waste. This model includes capillary effects and the gas high diffusivity. Moreover,
it is written in variables (total hydrogen mass density and liquid pressure) chosen in order to be consistent with gas appearance
or disappearance. We discuss the well possedness of this model and give some computational evidences of its adequacy to simulate

At the top of the planetary boundary layer, the entrainment of air, which incorporates dry and warm air from the free troposphere
into the boundary layer, is a key process for exchanges with the free troposphere since it controls the growth of the boundary
layer. Here, we focus on the semi-arid boundary layer where the entrainment process is analyzed using aircraft observations
collected during the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis experiment and large-eddy simulations. The role of the entrainment
is specifically enhanced in this region where very large gradients at the planetary boundary-layer top can be found due to
the presence of the moist, cold monsoon flow on which the dry, warm Harmattan flow is superimposed. A first large-eddy simulation
is designed based on aircraft observations of 5 June 2006 during the transition period between dry conditions and the active
monsoon phase. The simulation reproduces the boundary-layer development and dynamics observed on this day. From this specific
case, sensitivity tests are carried out to cover a range of conditions observed during seven other flights made in the same
transition period in order to describe the entrainment processes in detail. The combination of large-eddy simulations and
observations allows us to test the parametrization of entrainment in a mixed-layer model with zero-order and first-order approximations
for the entrainment zone. The latter representation of the entrainment zone gives a better fit with the conditions encountered
in the Sahelian boundary layer during the transition period because large entrainment thicknesses are observed. The sensitivity
study also provides an opportunity to highlight the contribution of shear stress and scalar jumps at the top of the boundary
layer in the entrainment process, and to test a relevant parametrization published in the recent literature for a mixed-layer

Atoll lagoons display a high diversity of trophic states due mainly to their specific geomorphology, and probably to their level and mode of human exploitation. We investigated the functioning of the Ahe atoll lagoon, utilized for pearl oyster farming, through estimations of photosynthetic parameters (pulse amplitude modulation fluorometry) and primary production ((13)C incorporation) measurements of the size structured phytoplankton biomass (<2μm and >2μm). Spatial and temporal scales of variability were surveyed during four seasons, over 16months, at four sites within the lagoon. While primary production (P) was dominated by the picophytoplankton, its biomass specific primary productivity (P(B)) was lower than in other atoll lagoons. The variables size fraction of the phytoplankton, water temperature, season, the interaction term station*fraction and site, explained significantly the variance of the data set using redundancy analysis. No significant trends over depth were observed in the range of 0-20m. A clear spatial pattern was found which was persistent over the seasons: south and north sites were different from the two central stations for most of the measured variables. This pattern could possibly be explained by the existence of water cells showing different water residence time within the lagoon. Photoacclimation strategies of the two size fractions differed through their light saturation coefficient (higher for picophytoplankton), but not through their maximum photosynthetic capacity (ETR(max)). Positive linear relationships between photosynthetic parameters indicated that their dynamic was independent of light availability in this ecosystem, but most probably dependent on nutrient availability and/or rapid changes in the community structure. Spatial and temporal patterns of the measured processes are then further discussed in the context of nutrient availability and the possible role of cultured oysters in nutrient recycling. 相似文献

Copper is more toxic to all life stages of the copepod Tisbe than cadmium. The most sensitive life stage of Tisbe to both copper and cadmium is the one-day-old nauplius. The resistance of larval stages of Tisbe increases with age (one-day-old nauplii 48h mg Cu l?1. and 0.5384 mg Cd l?1, 0.3415 mg Cu l?1. and 0.645 mg Cd l?1. for five-days-old nauplii and 0.5289 mg Cu l?1. and 0.9061 mg Cd l?1. for ten-days-old nauplii. The two reproductive stages of Tisbe tested (females with ovigerous bands and females bearing the first ovigerous sac) demonstrated an increased sensitivity to metals and proved more sensitive than the ten-days-old copepodids (only females with ovigerous bands had a similar sensitivity to copper with the ten-days-old copepodids). 相似文献

Le delta intérieur du fleuve Niger est une zone humide sahélienne dont l’inondation dépend de la pluviométrie des bassins supérieurs du fleuve Niger et de son principal affluent, le Bani. La crise climatique qui a débuté en 1970 a très peu influencé les dates de passage des maximums de crue sur le Niger amont et son principal défluent, le Diaka. L’influence par contre est très forte sur le Bani, à la confluence avec le Niger à Mopti et sur le delta aval avec des dates de passages des maximums plus précoces qu’auparavant. Cela est dû à la faiblesse des superficies inondées au cours des années sèches. Pendant les années humides, l’importance des débordements latéraux ralentit la propagation de la crue avec pour conséquence des dates de passages plus tardives des maximums. Par ailleurs pendant les années humides antérieures à 1970 l’importance des débordements latéraux conférait au delta amont un caractère d’autorégulation par écrêtage des crues au niveau de certaines station. 相似文献

This study was aimed at modeling, as realistically as possible, the dynamics and thermodynamics of the Iroise Sea by using
the Model for Applications at Regional Scale (MARS), a regional ocean 3D model. The horizontal resolution of the configuration
in use is 2 km with 30 vertical levels. The 3D model of the Iroise Sea is embedded in a larger model providing open boundary
conditions. As regards the atmospheric forcing, the originality of this study is to force the regional ocean model with the
high-resolution (6 km) regional meteorological model, Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF). In addition, as the air surface
temperature is highly sensitive to the sea surface temperature (SST), this regional meteorological model is improved by taking
into account a regional climatologic SST to compute meteorological parameters. By allowing a better coherence between the
SST and the temperature of the atmospheric boundary layer while giving a more realistic representation of heat fluxes exchanged
at the air/sea interface, this forcing constitutes a noticeable improvement of the Iroise Sea modeling. The different sensitivity
tests discussed here pinpoint the importance of entering, in WRF, SST data of sufficiently high quality before the computation
of meteorological forcing when the aim is a study of dynamics and thermodynamics far away from the coast. On the other hand,
when the target is the reproduction of coastal small-scale features in Iroise Sea modeling, the resolution of the meteorological
forcing and the quality of SST are both paramount. The simulation of reference was carried out throughout the Summer and Autumn
of year 2005 to allow comparisons with a campaign of surface current measurements by high-frequency radars conducted at the

AbstractThe Vakhsh and Pyandj rivers, main tributaries of the Amu Darya River in the mountainous region of the Pamir Alay, play an important role in the water resources of the Aral Sea basin (Central Asia). In this region, the glaciers and snow cover significantly influence the water cycle and flow regime, which could be strongly modified by climate change. The present study, part of a project funded by the European Commission, analyses the hydrological situation in six benchmark basins covering areas of between 1800 and 8400 km2, essentially located in Tajikistan, with a variety of topographical situations, precipitation amounts and glacierized areas. Four types of parameter are discussed: temperature, glaciation, snow cover and river flows. The study is based mainly on a long-time series that ended in the 1990s (with the collapse of the Soviet Union) and on field observations and data collection. In addition, a short, more recent period (May 2000 to May 2002) was examined to better understand the role of snow cover, using scarce monitored data and satellite information. The results confirm the overall homogeneous trend of temperature increase in the mountain range and its impacts on the surface water regime. Concerning the snow cover, significant differences are noted in the location, elevation, orientation and morphology of snow cover in the respective basins. The changes in the river flow regime are regulated by the combination of the snow cover dynamics and the increasing trend of the air temperature.

A country-scale (1:1,000,000) methodology has been developed for hydrogeologic mapping of hard-rock aquifers (granitic and metamorphic rocks) of the type that underlie a large part of the African continent. The method is based on quantifying the “useful thickness” and hydrodynamic properties of such aquifers and uses a recent conceptual model developed for this hydrogeologic context. This model links hydrodynamic parameters (transmissivity, storativity) to lithology and the geometry of the various layers constituting a weathering profile. The country-scale hydrogeological mapping was implemented in Burkina Faso, where a recent 1:1,000,000-scale digital geological map and a database of some 16,000 water wells were used to evaluate the methodology. 相似文献
