Abstract: The Karlapat bauxite deposit occurs in the Eastern Ghat Group of rocks in Orissa and has developed in the khondalites. Mineralogical and physical observations on bore hole samples reflect the presence of a maximum of six weathered zones from top to bottom. These zones are termed as topsoil, siliceous laterite, ferruginous laterite, bauxite, lithomarge and altered khondalite. Four-dimensional trend surface models are developed for the data of 45 and 36 bore holes from north and south blocks, respectively, on Al2O3 and SiO2 to delineate the zones of metallurgical grade bauxite (SiO25 % and Al2O340 %). The results indicate about 15 m thickness of bauxite in the north block while it could be up to 20 m thick in the south block, leaving about 10 m of lat-erites at the top of each block. High grade bauxite (>47 % Al2O3) is also encountered at specific locations.  相似文献

The authors have developed an efficient visualization system to gain insight into large collections of mineral elasticity data produced by an increasing number of both theoretical calculations and experiments. The system allows us to visualize multivariate elastic moduli (i.e., elastic constant tensors) and their variation with composition, pressure and temperature. Moreover, it supports visualization of elastic wave propagation in an anisotropic medium by rendering the wave velocity data, which are calculated as a function of propagation direction in a three-dimensional space. This paper describes the design, implementation and application of the visualization scheme we have developed for mineral elasticity. In particular, our scheme exploits a combination of parallel coordinates, star plot, scatter plot and polygon-surface rendering techniques, which are implemented using OpenGL, GLUI and C++. The result is a highly portable and flexible interactive visualization system. For illustration, the elastic properties of several important oxide and silicate minerals are successfully visualized as a function of pressure and temperature.Reviewed by: D. Yuen, G. 2008年5月12日汶川MS8.0地震主震发生后至2012年5月12日,我国地震台网在龙门山断裂区域内(102°E-105°E,30°N-34°N)共记录93837个地震事件,其中80995次事件含有深度信息.本文以台网地震目录为主要研究对象,分析了汶川地震余震序列的时空分布与演化特征.与构造活动密切相关的余震频次-震级关系变化显示,与主震断裂活动直接相关的余震活动在主震后4个月内基本结束.余震释放能量的空间分布及演化分析显示,在主震后6~24 h即有可能捕获未来余震区的大致展布乃至余震发展趋势.  相似文献

Our understanding of how grain boundaries (GBs) can dramatically influence key mineral properties such as creep and diffusion depends on knowledge of their detailed atomic and electronic structures. For this purpose, we simulate different types of tilt GBs, (0l1)/[100], (1l0)/[001] and (012)/[100] modeled with stepped and non-stepped surfaces in Mg2SiO4 forsterite using a first-principles approach based on density functional theory. Our results suggest that several configurations arising from Mg-terminated planes with tilt angles ranging from 16° to 67° are energetically competitive over the entire pressure regime (0–17 GPa) studied. At the ambient pressure, the predicted important features of the boundaries include distorted bonds (Si–O and Mg–O distances changed by 1 and 4 %, respectively), coordination defects (four and fivefold Mg–O coordination), and void spaces (0.2–0.9 × 10?10 m3/m2). Also, the interface induces splitting of electronic states from the conduction band and kinks at the top of the valence band. These structural and electronic features continue to exist at higher pressures. The formation enthalpy and excess volume for each boundary configuration studied were shown to systematically increase and decrease, respectively, with pressure. The predicted energy range (0.8–1.7 J/m2 at zero pressure) widens by a factor of two at 17 GPa (1.1–2.8 J/m2). The presence of low-density and structurally distorted regions imply that these GBs can serve as primary impurity segregation sites, fast diffusion pathways, and electron-trapped regions, which all are relevant for mantle rheology.  相似文献

Abstract: Ilmenite, hematite, garnet, monazite, zircon, rutile, magnetite, sillimanite, pyroxene and amphibole from the beach sands of Ekakula, Gahiramatha coast, Orissa, India are reported here for the first time. Their total concentration varies from 26. 4 to 100%. Ilmenite, monazite and zircon are between 100 and 300 um in size and are well rounded in shape. Ilmenite-hematite intergrowth is common. Ilmenite has 50. 02–54. 73% TiO2, 42. 42–46. 90% FeO (total Fe) and small amounts of Al, Mn, Mg, Ca, Ba, Si, V, Cr, and Zn. The bulk samples contain 10. 63–41. 42 % TiO2, 6. 15–26. 07 % FeO, 5. 86–16. 75 % Fe2O3, 7. 41–61. 74 % SiO2, 1. 39–12. 83% A12O3, 0. 32–4. 97% CaO, 0. 53–4. 24% P2O5, 0. 17–3. 27% MgO, 0. 15–2. 97% Na2O, 0. 07–2. 34% K2O, and 0. 05–0. 71% V2O5 together with appreciable amounts of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Y, U, Th, Zr, and trace amounts of Pb, Zn, Cu, Ni, Co, and Cr. Khondalite, charnockite, calc-silicate granulite, leptynite, migmatite, gneiss, basic granulite and pegmatite of the Eastern Ghats appear to be the major source for the above heavy mineral assemblages. The samples are amenable to gravity and magnetic methods of beneficiation.  相似文献

Hani rice terraces system is one of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) pilot sites selected by FAO. Soil nutrients are an important symbol of soil fertility, and play an important role in the sustainable utilization of land. Based on geo-statistics and GIS, the spatial variation of pH, organic matter, total nitrogen, alkaline hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus and available potassium in the soil in Yisa (a town in Honghe County, Yunnan Province) was studied. The results show that the spatial variability of pH, organic matter, total nitrogen, alkaline hydrolyzable nitrogen and available potassium exhibited medium spatial variability, and the coefficients of variation are 12.54%, 40.14%, 40.00%, 34.89%, and 40.00% respectively. Available phosphorus exhibited strong spatial variability, and the coefficient of variation is 102.13%. The spatial variation of pH, organic matter, total nitrogen, alkaline hydrolyzable nitrogen and available potassium fit the index mode, however, the spatial variation of available phosphorus fits the spherical model. Total nitrogen, available phosphorus and available potassium were greatly affected by soil structural factors, while pH, organic matter and alkaline hydrolyzable nitrogen were affected by both structural and random factors. The spatial distribution of soil nutrients in Yisa was intuitively characterized by Kriging interpolation. It is very important to understand the spatial distribution of soil nutrients, which will provide the guidance for adjusting agricultural management measures such as fertilization.  相似文献

Land use changes in mountainous regions were greatly enhanced as the rapid development of economy due to the expanded population in developing countries. Acting geographically as the basic unit of mountainous regions, valleys are the primary sites of economic activities. Therefore optimization of land use policy in valleys is of critical important to the sustainable development in mountainous regions. On the basis of land use data in 1995 and 2012, this study explored the changes of land use according to the assessment of varied topographic factors (i.e., altitude and slope) in typical valleys of the Beijing mountainous regions, China. Our results showed that the valley is an efficiently geographical unit to evaluate land use changes in mountainous regions. We also found that major land use changes in mountainous regions of Beijing from 1995 to 2012 were the dramatic losses of grassland to the cultivated and construction lands, while most of these changes took place at the altitude of 0-400m and the slope of 6-15°. Considering the ever increasing economic development in Beijing mountainous regions, the increases of the construction and cultivated lands are inevitable, however, the great changes at a steeper slope imply the need to tailor land use structure coming into line with topographic factors, and suggesting ecological barriers and water conservation must be exercised in the developments of these areas.  相似文献

In Nepal, nearly half of the total land is covered by forest, which holds a potentially important position in promoting rural livelihoods and in alleviating rural poverty. The rural landscape that encompasses an agrarian economy, a fragile ecology, and a complex and differentiated society is changing rapidly in Nepal today. Although poverty alleviation has been one of the top priorities for national development since 1976, poverty still remains widespread, persistent and it is also an acute problem in Nepal, where people are in a state of deprivation with regard to incomes, clothing, housing, healthcare, education, sanitary facilities and human rights. Thus, Nepal is considered as one of the poorest countries in South-Asia, with 25.2% people living below the poverty line. The objective of this study was to assess changes in poverty of forest users brought on by the community forestry program, in order to analyze the level of participation in community forestry management activities. For this study, Bajhang district was chosen as the study site, which is one of the poorest and most remote districts in the country of Nepal. Different Participatory Rural Appraisal methods such as face-to face interviews, focus group discussions and key informants’ interviews including secondary data were used to gather information. The findings showed that the forest users’ participation in meetings, discussion and other activities, like community forestry management or silvicultural operation related to community forestry, was high. The assessment found that 42.3%, 32.6% and 25.1% of respondents strongly agreed, agreed and were neutral, respectively, towards the idea that poverty reduction from community forests had occurred. The results showed almost all the respondents were depended upon agriculture and/or forest resources for their livelihoods. Different ecosystem services such as ethnomedicines, aesthetic value and ecotourism, control of soil erosion/land-slides, water recharge and soil fertility have increased due to the decomposition of leaf litter. This was apparent from the formulation of community forests. Poverty in rural areas of the country is still higher than in urban areas and the incidence of poverty is the highest in the Far western Province where this research was conducted, Therefore, the government, policy makers and other stakeholders should work hand-in-hand to effectively reduce the poverty that persists in Nepal.  相似文献

We perform first principles molecular dynamics simulations of Mg2SiO4 liquid and crystalline forsterite. On compression by a factor of two, we find that the Grüneisen parameter of the liquid increases linearly from 0.6 to 1.2. Comparison of liquid and forsterite equations of state reveals a temperature-dependent density crossover at pressures of ∼12-17 GPa. Along the melting curve, which we calculate by integration of the Clapeyron equation, the density crossover occurs within the forsterite stability field at P = 13 GPa and T = 2550 K. The melting curve obtained from the root mean-square atomic displacement in forsterite using the Lindemann law fails to match experimental or calculated melting curves. We attribute this failure to the liquid structure that differs significantly from that of forsterite, and which changes markedly upon compression, with increases in the degree of polymerization and coordination. The mean Si coordination increases from 4 in the uncompressed system to 6 upon twofold compression. The self-diffusion coefficients increase with temperature and decrease monotonically with pressure, and are well described by the Arrhenian relation. We compare our equation of state to the available highpressure shock wave data for forsterite and wadsleyite. Our theoretical liquid Hugoniot is consistent with partial melting along the forsterite Hugoniot at pressures 150-170 GPa, and complete melting at 170 GPa. The wadsleyite Hugoniot is likely sub-liquidus at the highest experimental pressure to date (200 GPa).  相似文献
