In this study, we implement Particle Filter (PF)-based assimilation algorithms to improve root-zone soil moisture (RZSM) estimates from a coupled SVAT-vegetation model during a growing season of sweet corn in North Central Florida. The results from four different PF algorithms were compared with those from the Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) when near-surface soil moisture was assimilated every 3 days using both synthetic and field observations. In the synthetic case, the PF algorithm with the best performance used residual resampling of the states and obtained resampled parameters from a uniform distribution and provided reductions of 76% in root mean square error (RMSE) over the openloop estimates. The EnKF provided the RZSM and parameter estimates that were closer to the truth than the PF with an 84% reduction in RMSE. When field observations were assimilated, the PF algorithm that maintained maximum parameter diversity offered the largest reduction of 16% in root mean square difference (RMSD) over the openloop estimates. Minimal differences were observed in the overall performance of the EnKF and PF using field observations since errors in model physics affected both the filters in a similar manner, with maximum reductions in RMSD compared to the openloop during the mid and reproductive stages. 相似文献
Quartz grains in hydrothermally altered granites from the Isle of Skye are highly heterogeneous and not equilibrated in oxygen
isotope ratio at the 20 μm scale. Ion microprobe analysis of one grain shows a gradient of 13‰ over 400 μm and a greater range
in δ18O than all quartz previously analyzed on the Isle of Skye. Other crystals from the same outcrop are homogeneous. Digitized
cathodoluminescence images reveal patterns of magmatic zoning and brittle fracturing not otherwise detectable. The ion probe
analysis correlates low δ18O values on a micro-scale to one set of healed cracks. Thus, quartz exchanges oxygen isotopes primarily by solution and reprecipitation
along fractures, in contrast to more reactive feldspar that appears to exchange from the grain boundary inward. Macroscopic
models of isotope exchange are not realistic for these rocks; the flow of hydrothermal fluids was heterogeneous, anisotropic
and crack controlled.

Dense sand-bentonite buffer (γd = 1.67Mg/m3) has been proposed in Canada as one of several barriers for isolating nuclear fuel waste. The buffer will be required to function under conditions of high total pressures and elevated temperatures approaching 100°C. Summary results are presented from two test programs: (1) isothermal consolidated undrained triaxial (CIU¯) tests; and (2) isothermal drained constant-p′ (CID) triaxial tests. Specimens were consolidated at effective stresses up to 9.0 MPa and temperatures up to 100°C.
The results indicate parallel hardening lines at systematically lower values of specific volume at elevated temperatures. In shear, increased temperatures produced lower values of maximum deviator stressqf, and higher pore water pressure changesΔuf. The net result is curved peak strength envelops in plots ofqf versuspf′ that are higher at elevated temperatures, even though the strengths,qf of individual specimens are lower. The critical state strength envelope is curved inq, p′-planes.
The effect of drained heating on buffer to 100°C is not marked. Compressibilities, stiffnesses, strengths, and pore water pressure generation are all affected, but none of the changes are great. 相似文献
ABSTRACT Understanding temporal patterns in restored environments is important for identifying potential barriers to recovery and improved management of degraded habitats. In this paper, we use temporal beta diversity analyses to compare invertebrate community recovery trajectories in three restored agricultural stream sites under different integrated catchment plans, a native forest reference site, and two unmodified pasture control stream sites over 24 years. The restored sites diverged from their initial community composition over time and became more similar to the reference site community, which was relatively stable over time. Variation partitioning showed that prior to restoration beta diversity was primarily associated with environmental and spatial drivers, whereas post-restoration beta diversity was more influenced by temporal and environmental drivers, including changes in substrate size, fine sediments, water clarity, and nutrients, as well as temperature and flow regime. Species’ contributions to beta diversity varied between sites and years, with sensitive EPT taxa contributing more in reference and control sites. However, contributions of some EPT species, particularly mayflies, increased in restored sites post-ICM. In summary, after nearly two decades of ICM, restored stream sites show recovery towards reference conditions, yet differences persist, indicating that rehabilitation may take longer, depending on the restoration goals. 相似文献
The GMRES approach is used to solve complex matrix solution arising from boundary element analysis of large offshore structures. This makes it possible to solve problems with large numbers of panels on a workstation with a much smaller memory than typical high performance computers. The speed of the solver is compatible with direct solvers when the enough RAM is available. Otherwise, an iteration procedure can be used. By using an out-of-core treatment, typical RAM requirement is reduced to a size approximately linearly proportional to the panel number n instead of being proportional to n2. The code is first verified with direct solver for cases with small number of panels. The applicability to large offshore structure of the model is demonstrated for a TLP case. 相似文献
We compare a variety of nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) extrapolation algorithms, including optimization, magneto-frictional,
and Grad – Rubin-like codes, applied to a solar-like reference model. The model used to test the algorithms includes realistic
photospheric Lorentz forces and a complex field including a weakly twisted, right helical flux bundle. The codes were applied
to both forced “photospheric” and more force-free “chromospheric” vector magnetic field boundary data derived from the model.
When applied to the chromospheric boundary data, the codes are able to recover the presence of the flux bundle and the field’s
free energy, though some details of the field connectivity are lost. When the codes are applied to the forced photospheric
boundary data, the reference model field is not well recovered, indicating that the combination of Lorentz forces and small
spatial scale structure at the photosphere severely impact the extrapolation of the field. Preprocessing of the forced photospheric
boundary does improve the extrapolations considerably for the layers above the chromosphere, but the extrapolations are sensitive
to the details of the numerical codes and neither the field connectivity nor the free magnetic energy in the full volume are
well recovered. The magnetic virial theorem gives a rapid measure of the total magnetic energy without extrapolation though,
like the NLFFF codes, it is sensitive to the Lorentz forces in the coronal volume. Both the magnetic virial theorem and the
Wiegelmann extrapolation, when applied to the preprocessed photospheric boundary, give a magnetic energy which is nearly equivalent
to the value derived from the chromospheric boundary, but both underestimate the free energy above the photosphere by at least
a factor of two. We discuss the interpretation of the preprocessed field in this context. When applying the NLFFF codes to
solar data, the problems associated with Lorentz forces present in the low solar atmosphere must be recognized: the various
codes will not necessarily converge to the correct, or even the same, solution.
On 07/07/2007, the NLFFF team was saddened by the news that Tom Metcalf had died as the result of an accident. We remain grateful
for having had the opportunity to benefit from his unwavering dedication to the problems encountered in attempting to understand
the Sun’s magnetic field; Tom had completed this paper several months before his death, leading the team through the many
steps described above. 相似文献
