The three-dimensional flow of an electrically conducting and incompressible viscous fluid past a uniformly accelerated infinite vertical porous plate is studied in a rotating fluid. The flow is assumed to be at small magnetic Reynolds number so that the induced magnetic field is neglected. An exact solution has been obtained by defining a complex velocity with the help of the Laplace transform method for the Prandtl number equal to unity. The effects of rotation, magnetic and free-convection parameters are discussed for the whole problem. Also, the skin-friction components on the plate are discussed. 相似文献

The equilibrium structure and oscillations of a partially degenerate standard model in the presence of a poloidal magnetic field have been studied. The magnetic field in the interior has been matched with an outside dipole field. The effect of magnetic field on the various structural parameters, e.g., mass, central condensation, moment of inertia, and oblateness has been computed for different values of the central degeneracy of the model. We have also studied the effect of magnetic field on radial oscillations of the configuration. A variational formulation is used to compute the changes in the frequency of radial mode of oscillation. It has been shown that the changes in frequency computed for various models using a two-parameter eigenfunction are in fair agreement with the values obtained by using the exact eigenfunction. 相似文献

Fluxes have been computed for Fex (6374 Å) and Fe xiv (5303 Å) lines as a function of solar radii and at various coronal tempratures. The electron density derived from the white light corona during the total solar eclipse of 1980 were used in the computations. Fluxes in adjacent continua have also been computed. The computed ratios of line flux to the square of continuum flux at a coronal temperature of 1.6 × 106 K show a good fit with the observed values for Fex line. Further, radiative excitation seems to dominate over collisional excitation beyond 1.3 solar radius. 相似文献

Tidal effects of a Schmidt (1965) model galaxy on a typical globular cluster moving in an orbit along the axis of symmetry of the spheroid is studied under the impulsive approximation. Ann-body simulation is made for comparison. Results show that in both cases, a high concentration cluster gains enough energy to be totally dissolved within a distance of 2 kpc. Radar altimetry provides an important geophysical parameter, backscatter coefficient (σ0), which is useful in studying target surface characteristics. Ku-band (Oceansat-2 scatterometer- OSCAT) and Ka-band (SARAL-AltiKa altimeter) data are concurrently used to characterize polar surface features over the Antarctic region. Maximum-likelihood classification has been employed to classify combined data set (AltiKa and OSCAT) for discrimination among sea ice, open water, and ice sheet (interior and exterior). In this paper, adaptive control of low speed bio-robotic autonomous underwater vehicles (BAUVs) in the dive plane using dorsal fins is considered. It is assumed that the model parameters are completely unknown and only the depth of the vehicle is measured for feedback. Two dorsal fins are mounted in the horizontal plane on either side of the BAUV. The normal force produced by the fins, when cambered, is used for the maneuvering. The BAUV model considered here is non-minimum phase. An indirect adaptive control system is designed for the depth control using the dorsal fins. The control system consists of a gradient based identifier for online parameter estimation, an observer for state estimation, and an optimal controller. Simulation results are presented which show that the adaptive control system accomplishes precise depth control of the BAUV using dorsal fins in spite of large uncertainties in the system parameters. 相似文献

We have obtained the temporal correlation function, Q(t), from time sequences of Caii K filtergrams and Dopplergrams from Antarctica, Taiwan Oscillation Network (TON) and Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). Q(t) gives the time evolution of the pattern under examination, supergranulation in this case. It has been found that Q(t) shows oscillatory signals of both 5-min and long-term periods. The 5-min oscillations are suppressed by averaging the images over 10 min. An exponential decay curve which represents the lifetime trend of supergranules, is fitted to Q(t) and subtracted out. The Q(t) residuals thus obtained contain the oscillatory component and are then subjected to a periodogram analysis. Significant periodicities in the range of 1.4–10 hours have been noted. The causes of these oscillations are not fully known at present, but the instrumental and atmospheric factors can be ruled out, pointing to solar origin. Various possibilities are discussed. Some of the observed periodicities may be considered as probable candidates for long-term oscillations in the Sun, such as the elusive gravity modes. 相似文献

We present numerical simulations of kinetic Alfvén waves (KAWs) and inertial Alfvén waves (IAWs) applicable to the solar wind, the solar corona, and the auroral regions, respectively, leading to the formation of coherent magnetic structures when the nonlinearity arises from ponderomotive effects and Joule heating. The nonlinear dynamical equation satisfies the modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The effect of nonlinear coupling between the main KAW/IAW and the perturbation, producing filamentary structures of the magnetic field, has been studied. Scalings in the spectral index of the power spectrum at different times have been calculated. These filamentary structures can act as a source for particle acceleration by wave?–?particle interaction because the KAWs/IAWs are mixed modes and Landau damping is possible. 相似文献
