The solar atmosphere displays a wide variety of dynamic phenomena driven by the interaction of magnetic fields and plasma.
In particular, plasma jets in the solar chromosphere and corona, coronal heating, solar flares and coronal mass ejections
all point to the presence of magnetic phenomena such as reconnection, flux cancellation, the formation of magnetic islands,
and plasmoids. While we can observe the signatures and gross features of such phenomena we cannot probe the essential physics
driving them, given the spatial resolution of current instrumentation. Flexible and well-controlled laboratory experiments,
scaled to solar parameters, open unique opportunities to reproduce the relevant unsteady phenomena under various simulated
solar conditions. The ability to carefully control these parameters in the laboratory allows one to diagnose the dynamical
processes which occur and to apply the knowledge gained to the understanding of similar processes on the Sun, in addition
directing future solar observations and models. This talk introduces the solar phenomena and reviews the contributions made

We present a direct comparison between two different techniques: time-distance helioseismology and a local correlation tracking
method for measuring mass flows in the solar photosphere and in a near-surface layer. We applied both methods to the same
dataset (MDI high-cadence Dopplergrams covering almost the entire Carrington rotation 1974) and compared the results. We found
that, after necessary corrections, the vector flow fields obtained by these techniques are very similar. The median difference
between directions of corresponding vectors is 24°, and the correlation coefficients of the results for mean zonal and meridional
flows are 0.98 and 0.88, respectively. The largest discrepancies are found in areas of small velocities where the inaccuracies
of the computed vectors play a significant role. The good agreement of these two methods increases confidence in the reliability

We investigate the possibility of explaining the observed ripples in the X-ray gas in the Perseus and Virgo clusters through
natural oscillations of a perturbed radio cocoon. Such a perturbation would result from an expanding overpressured cocoon
of radio plasma overshooting its pressure equilibrium point with the cluster gas. The oscillations are heavily acoustically
damped, and energy injection rates required to sustain them are consistent with observed AGN powers. Viscous dissipation of
sound waves generated by these oscillations heats the cluster gas. By comparing our model with observations in Perseus and
Virgo, we reproduce the observed ripple separations and amplitudes. Spitzer viscosity is largely sufficient in explaining
the gas density profile, suggesting that thermal conductivity is likely to be heavily suppressed. In the central regions,
viscous heating can suppress cooling flows on timescales exceeding the radio source lifetime. 相似文献

Strong (B?109 G) and superstrong (B?1014 G) magnetic fields profoundly affect many thermodynamic and kinetic characteristics of dense plasmas in neutron star envelopes. In particular, they produce strongly anisotropic thermal conductivity in the neutron star crust and modify the equation of state and radiative opacities in the atmosphere, which are major ingredients of the cooling theory and spectral atmosphere models. As a result, both the radiation spectrum and the thermal luminosity of a neutron star can be affected by the magnetic field. We briefly review these effects and demonstrate the influence of magnetic field strength on the thermal structure of an isolated neutron star, putting emphasis on the differences brought about by the superstrong fields and high temperatures of magnetars. For the latter objects, it is important to take proper account of a combined effect of the magnetic field on thermal conduction and neutrino emission at densities ρ?1010 g?cm?3. We show that the neutrino emission puts a B-dependent upper limit on the effective surface temperature of a cooling neutron star. 相似文献

Abstract— We have analyzed the chemically and isotopically well‐characterized insoluble organic matter (IOM) extracted from 51 unequilibrated chondrites (8 CR, 9 CM, 1 CI, 3 ungrouped C, 9 CO, 9 CV, 10 ordinary, 1 CB and 1 E chondrites) using confocal imaging Raman spectroscopy. The average Raman properties of the IOM, as parameterized by the peak characteristics of the so‐called D and G bands, which originate from aromatic C rings, show systematic trends that are correlated with meteorite (sub‐) classification and IOM chemical compositions. Processes that affect the Raman and chemical properties of the IOM, such as thermal metamorphism experienced on the parent bodies, terrestrial weathering and amorphization due to irradiation in space, have been identified. We established separate sequences of metamorphism for ordinary, CO, oxidized, and reduced CV chondrites. Several spectra from the most primitive chondrites reveal the presence of organic matter that has been amorphized. This amorphization, usually the result of sputtering processes or UV or particle irradiation, could have occurred during the formation of the organic material in interstellar or protoplanetary ices or, less likely, on the surface of the parent bodies or during the transport of the meteorites to Earth. D band widths and peak metamorphic temperatures are strongly correlated, allowing for a straightforward estimation of these temperatures. 相似文献

We present a general recipe for constructing N -body realizations of galaxies comprising near spherical and disc components. First, an exact spherical distribution function for the spheroids (halo and bulge) is determined, such that it is in equilibrium with the gravitational monopole of the disc components. Second, an N -body realization of this model is adapted to the full disc potential by growing the latter adiabatically from its monopole. Finally, the disc is sampled with particles drawn from an appropriate distribution function, avoiding local-Maxwellian approximations. We performed test simulations and find that the halo and bulge radial density profile very closely match their target model, while they become slightly oblate due to the added disc gravity. Our findings suggest that vertical thickening of the initially thin disc is caused predominantly by spiral and bar instabilities, which also result in a radial re-distribution of matter, rather than scattering off interloping massive halo particles. 相似文献

We study active region NOAA 9684 (N06L285) which produced an X1.0/3B flare on November 4, 2001 associated with a fast CME
(1810 km s−1) and the largest proton event (31 700 pfu) in cycle 23. SOHO/MDI continuum image data show that a large leading sunspot rotated
counter-clockwise around its umbral center for at least 4 days prior to the flare. Moreover, it is found from SOHO/MDI 96
m line-of-sight magnetograms that the systematic tilt angle of the bipolar active region, a proxy for writhe of magnetic fluxtubes,
changed from a positive value to a negative one. This signifies a counter-clockwise rotation of the spot-group as a whole.
Using vector magnetograms from Huairou Solar Observing Station (HSOS), we find that the twist of the active region magnetic
fields is dominantly left handed (αbest = −0.03), and that the vertical current and current helicity are predominantly negative, and mostly distributed within the
positive rotating sunspot. The active region exhibits a narrow inverse S-shaped Hα filament and soft X-ray sigmoid distributed along the magnetic neutral line. The portion of the filament which is most closely
associated with the rotating sunspot disappeared on November 4, and the corresponding portion of the sigmoid was observed
to erupt, producing the flare and initiating the fast CME and proton event. These results imply that the sunspot rotation
is a primary driver of helicity production and injection into the corona. We suggest that the observed active region dynamics
and subsequent filament and sigmoid eruption are driven by a kink instability which occurred due to a large amount of the

Four similar sponges of different colors, all unknown to science, were collected in submarine caves of New Caledonia. We aimed at determining whether the four chromotypes represented different species or phenotypic variations of a unique new species. We used an integrative taxonomic approach combining morphologic, molecular and metabolomic analyses. The main traits that define these specimens are a skeleton made of monolophose, trilophose and tetralophose calthrops only, high chemical diversity and a high abundance and diversity of prokaryotic symbionts. The symbiotic community includes two unique prokaryote morphotypes, which are described for the first time in Homoscleromorpha, and appeared to be vertically transmitted. Although several features slightly differ among chromotypes, the most parsimonious conclusion was to propose a single new species Plakina kanaky sp. nov. Our phylogenetic analysis indicated the paraphyly of the Plakina genus, with P. kanaky sp. nov. belonging to a clade that includes Plakina jani and Plakina trilopha. The present work demonstrates that integrative taxonomy should be used in order to revise the entire Plakinidae family and especially the non‐monophyletic genus Plakina. 相似文献
