The electrical conductivity and polarization properties of calcite single crystals with three orientations, namely, a (00.1) plane perpendicular to the crystallographic c axis (10.0) plane parallel to the crystallographic c axis, and a (10.4) cleavage plane, were studied by both complex impedance and thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) measurements. Conductivities for (00.1)-, (10.0)-, and (10.4)-oriented single calcite crystals at 400–600?°C were 1.16?×?10?7?–?1.05?×?10?5, 7.40?×?10?8?–?4.27?×?10?6, and 4.27?×?10?7?–?2.86?×?10?5 Ω?1 m?1, respectively, and the activation energies for conduction were 112, 103, and 101?kJ?mol?1, respectively. The TSDC spectra verified the electrical polarizability of calcite crystals. The activation energy for depolarization, estimated from TSDC spectra, of the (00.1)-, (10.0)-, and (10.4)-oriented calcite substrates were 112, 119, and 114?kJ?mol?1, respectively. Considering the correlation between the processes of conduction and electric polarization, we proposed the mechanisms of conduction and polarization in calcite on the assumption of oxide ion transport.  相似文献

Abstract: The adsorption of gold on iron(III) and aluminum hydroxides from solutions containing Au(III) complexes has been studied as a function of pH and chloride concentration at 30C. Iron(III) hydroxide was more effective in adsorbing gold from solution than aluminum hydroxide. However, both hydroxides controlled the behavior of Au(III) complex with very similar manner. The most effective gold adsorption occurred in aqueous solution with near neutral pH and low Cl concentration. In this solution condition, Au(III) complexes were mainly dissolved as AuCl2(OH)2- and AuCl(OH)3-, and the surface charge for both hydroxides was positive. In addition, the adsorbed Au(III) complexes were spontaneously reduced to elemental gold in spite of the absence of a specific reducing agent.
The results of this study suggest that adsorption and spontaneous reduction of gold complexes on the surface of hydrous metal oxides with positive charge play an important role in gold precipitation in subsurface environment.  相似文献

祁连山七一冰川观测结果表明, 2001/2002年度和 2002/2003 年度冰川物质平衡分别为-810mm和-316 mm水当量, 冰面出现显著的减薄状态. 和过去的观测结果相比较, 20 世纪 70 年代为较大的正平衡, 年平均为360 mm水当量; 80年代年平均为4 mm水当量, 基本接近零平衡状态. 到近两年亏损强烈, 为所有观测资料中负平衡值最大的年份, 零平衡线也达到最高位置. 物质平衡出现较大的负值和零平衡线位置升高的状况, 强烈反映了祁连山冰川对气候变暖过程的响应. 如果气候变暖趋势继续, 冰川物质平衡负值将增大、冰面减薄和雪线的升高, 冰川将继续呈现萎缩状态.  相似文献

Abstract   Both marine and terrigenous organic matter are deposited in shelf and continental slope environments. In the present study, the relationship between environmental changes in the Choshi area and the sedimentation of organic matter was examined. The sediments of the Choshi core were deposited on a shelf environment and their lithology and ichnofacies, as well as the composition of the contained kerogen (insoluble organic matter) indicate a shallowing upward succession. The organic matter preserved in the sediments is of both marine and terrigenous origin, on the basis of C/N ratios (5.90–9.45), δ13C values (−21.6‰−24.6‰) and kerogen microscopy. The total organic carbon (TOC) content (0.39–1.08%) of the sediments shows a positive correlation with the increase of terrigenous organic matter before 500 ka, but decreases (0.26–0.61%) after 500 ka as the shelf environment becomes shallower because of dilution, caused by the input of terrigenous inorganic clasts, and oxidation. The variation in TOC contents was thus influenced by the increasing sedimentation rate of terrigenous materials, including both organic and inorganic particles as the basin filled.  相似文献

Earthquake‐induced structural pounding frequently causes serious damage to buildings, particularly at the expansion joint (hereafter, EXPJ) between adjacent buildings. Because the EXPJ width in existing reinforced concrete buildings is usually very small, typically about 5 cm for school buildings in Japan, collision avoidance cannot be achieved by seismic retrofitting. This paper presents an experimental investigation into an effective method for reducing severe structural damage due to pounding at the EXPJ between narrowly separated buildings. The method involves inserting a shock‐absorbing material such as rubber into the EXPJ gap. The efficiency of the proposed method is evaluated by laboratory shaking tests using two model buildings. Furthermore, a lumped mass model is used to carry out a collision analysis in order to numerically investigate the influence of such a shock‐absorbing material. Both the numerical and experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The validity of the proposed method is also demonstrated by numerical simulation of adjacent 10‐story steel buildings with an EXPJ width of 5 cm. The force, acceleration and velocity produced by earthquake‐induced structural pounding are found to be remarkably mitigated by inserting a soft shock‐absorbing material into the EXPJ gap. In seismic risk assessment of structures, fragility functions are the probabilistic characterization of vulnerability at the component and/or structural level, expressing the probability of failure as a function of a ground motion intensity measure (IM). Fragility curves, in general, are structure- and site-specific, thus a comparison of fragility curves, then of vulnerability, is not straightforward across multiple structures. Also, it could be the case that hazard at a site of interest is not available for the IM originally considered in the fragility assessment. These situations require to convert fragility curves from an original IM to a target one. The present study addresses a hazard-consistent probabilistic framework for converting spectral acceleration-based IMs from an original IM to a target IM at a given site. In particular, three conversion cases, under different assumptions on the explanatory power of the involved IMs with respect to structural failure, are discussed: (a) a vector-valued IM consisting of the original and target IMs, magnitude, and source-to-site distance; (b) a vector-valued IM consisting of the original and target IMs; and (c) the original (scalar) IM only, assuming that structural response, given the IM, is statistically independent of the other ground motion variables. In this framework, the original fragility functions are characterized using the state-of-the-art methods in performance-based earthquake engineering, then the fragility curves as a function of the target IM are evaluated through applications of the probability calculus rules, ensuring consistency with the seismic hazard at the site of interest. The conversion strategy is illustrated through the applications to three-, six-, and nine-story Italian code-conforming reinforced concrete buildings designed for a high-hazard site in Italy. The study shows that, in most of the cases, the converted fragility curves have agreement with the reference curves directly developed in terms of the target IM. Cases in which least agreement was found are likely due to the models used to obtain the terms required by the conversion equations.  相似文献

Carbon isotope fractionation between coexisting calcite and graphite (C ) has been studied in metamorphosed limestones from three thermal aureoles around Cretaceous granitic bodies (i.e., Tanohata, Tono, and Senmaya aureoles) in the Kitakami Mountains, Northeast Japan. C in each aureole decreases toward the granitic bodies, and becomes virtually uniform near the sillimanite isograd for metapelites, although calcite has variable isotopic ratios reflecting the original sedimentary compositions. The relationships indicate that isotopic equilibrium has been attained in metamorphosed limestone of sillimanite grade. Estimated C at the sillimanite isograd is similar in the Tanohata and Tono aureoles, but different in the Senmaya aureole with smaller carbon isotopic fractionations. From the temperature dependence of C and the negative dP/dT of andalusite–sillimanite equilibrium, we conclude that the sillimanite isograd in the Senmaya aureole was under higher temperature and lower pressure than in the other two localities. Temperatures at the sillimanite isograd are estimated by using existing calibrations of carbon isotopic exchange between calcite and graphite, whereas pressures are estimated from carbon isotopic temperatures and the andalusite–sillimanite equilibrium (Holdaway and Mukhopadhyay 1993a). Consistency of the P–T estimates is examined in the light of phase equilibria in the pelitic system. The estimated pressures at the sillimanite isograd are at about 2.1–2.7(±0.2) kbar for the Tanohata and Tono aureoles and less than 1 kbar for the Senmaya aureole, respectively. Geobarometry of sillimanite isograd in thermal aureoles indicates a marked difference in the depth of solidification of upper crustal granitoids: the Senmaya pluton has intruded and solidified at a very shallow level of less than 4 km whereas the Tanohata and Tono plutons are more deep-seated (ca. 8–10 km). Star formation is a fundamental process that dominates the life-cycle of various matters in galaxies: Stars are formed in molecular clouds, and the formed stars often affect the surrounding materials strongly via their UV photons, stellar winds, and supernova explosions. It is therefore revealing the distribution and properties of molecular gas in a galaxy is crucial to investigate the star formation history and galaxy evolution. Recent progress in developing millimeter and sub-millimeter wave receiver systems has enabled us to rapidly increase our knowledge on molecular clouds. In this proceedings, the recent results from the surveys of the molecular clouds in the Milky Way and the Magellanic Clouds as well as the Galactic center as the most active regions in the Milky Way are presented. The high sensitivity with unrivaled high resolution of ALMA will play a key role in detecting denser gas that is tightly connected to star formation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

For dynamically consistent, high-resolution, yet cost-effective regional oceanic downscaling modelling, an empirical three-dimensional (3D) density estimate based on publicly available datasets is utilized for the Regional Oceanic Modeling System (ROMS) with simple data assimilation (i.e., TS nudging, where TS stands for temperature and salinity). We rely on a method built upon the two-layer model to reconstruct a mesoscale 3D temperature and salinity field, referred to as Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT)-TS, using near real-time altimeter-derived dynamic height along with Argo float profiling data. The TUMSAT-TS is first validated using in situ hydrographic data, then is implemented in the Japan Coastal Ocean Predictability Experiment (JCOPE2)-ROMS downscaling system for the Kuroshio region off Japan. We explore the usability of TUMSAT-TS by carrying out three comparative simulations with temperature and salinity nudging towards the (i) TUMSAT-TS and (ii) JCOPE2-TS fields, and (iii) without the nudging. Whereas the unassimilated case fails to properly account for the Kuroshio, both datasets individually are found to help reproduce the mesoscale variability of the Kuroshio, as well as its transient paths, volume transport, associated kinetic energy (KE) and eddy KE, and seasonally varying stratification.  相似文献

Abstract: The gold content in siliceous deposits formed from geothermal waters at the Hatchobaru geothermal power station in central Kyushu, Japan, was determined by inductively coupled plasma quadrupole mass spectrometry (ICP–MS). It ranges from 1.3 to 4.6 mg/kg. The highest gold content was obtained from the siliceous deposit formed from acidic waters. In this siliceous deposit, hydrous iron(III) oxide of amorphous state is a major constituent, suggesting that hydrous iron(III) oxide might play an important role when gold is concentrated into siliceous deposits formed from acidic and iron-rich geothermal waters.  相似文献
