Banded iron formation (BIF) comprising high grade iron ore are exposed in Gorumahisani‐Sulaipat‐Badampahar belt in the east of North Orissa Craton, India. The ores are multiply deformed and metamorphosed to amphibolite facies. The mineral assemblage in the BIF comprises grunerite, magnetite/martite/goethite and quartz. Relict carbonate phases are sometimes noticed within thick iron mesobands. Grunerite crystals exhibit needles to fibrous lamellae and platy form or often sheaf‐like aggregates in linear and radial arrangement. Accicular grunerite also occur within intergranular space of magnetite/martite. Grunerite needles/accicules show higher reflectivity in chert mesoband and matching reflectance with that of adjacent magnetite/martite in iron mesoband. Some grunerite lamellae sinter into micron size magnetite platelets. This grunerite has high ferrous oxide and cobalt oxide content but is low in Mg‐ and Mn‐oxide compared to the ones, reported from BIFs, of Western Australia, Nigeria, France, USA and Quebec. The protolith of this BIF is considered to be carbonate containing sediments, with high concentrations of Fe and Si but lower contents of cobalt and chromium ± Mg, Mn and Ni. During submarine weathering quartz, sheet silicate (greenalite) and Fe‐Co‐Cr (Mg‐Mn‐Ni)‐carbonate solid solution were formed. At the outset of the regional metamorphic episode grunerite, euhedral magnetite and recrystalized quartz were developed. Magnetite was grown at the expense of carbonate and later martitized under post‐metamorphic conditions. With the increasing grade of metamorphism greenalite transformed to grunerite. 相似文献

In this article, the potential of a binder developed by admixing fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) to stabilise expansive soils is evaluated. Laboratory tests included determination of free swell index, swell potential and swelling pressure tests of the soil/binder mixtures at different mixing ratio. The test results showed decrease in the swelling behaviour of the soil with increase in binder content. The percent swell–time relationship was observed to fit the hyperbolic curves enabling us to predict the ultimate percent swell from few initial test results. Addition of 1% of lime to the binder showed further improvement in reducing swelling. A good linear relationship is established between percent oedometer swell and modified free swell index (MFSI) for soil/binder mixtures without lime but the same has not been observed in the presence of lime. The compressibility characteristics of the soil/binder mixtures reduced nominally with increase in binder content but in the presence of lime, the compressibility reduced significantly. Binder used in this study has been found to be effective and economic to stabilise expansive soils with lesser amount of chemical additives such as lime. 相似文献

This paper presents the results of laboratory model tests carried out to develop an understanding of the behaviour of geocell-reinforced
soft clay foundations under circular loading. Natural silty clay was used in this study. The geocells were prepared using
biaxial polymer grid. The performance of the reinforced bed is quantified using non-dimensional factors i.e., Bearing capacity
improvement factor (If) and Percentage reduction in footing settlement (PRS). The test results demonstrate that the geocell mattress redistributes
the footing load over a wider area thereby improving the performance of the footing. The load carrying capacity of the clay
bed is increased by a factor of up to about 4.5 times that of unreinforced bed. From the pressure-settlement responses, it
is observed that the geocell-reinforced foundation bed behaves as a much stiffer system compared to the unreinforced case
indicating that a substantial reduction in footing settlement can be achieved by providing geocell reinforcement in the soft
clay bed. The maximum reduction in footing settlement obtained with the provision of geocell mattress of optimum size placed
close to the footing is around 90%. Further improvement in performance is obtained with provision of an additional planar
geogrid layer at the base of the geocell mattress. 相似文献

Rainfall intensities measured at a few stations in Kerala during 2001–2005 using a disdrometer were found to be in reasonable
agreement with the total rainfall measured using a manual rain gauge. The temporal distributions of rainfall intensity at
different places and during different months show that rainfall is of low intensity (< 10 mm/hr), 65% to 90% of the time.
This could be an indication of the relative prevalence of stratiform and cumuliform clouds. Rainfall was of intensity < 5
mm/hr for more than 95% of the time in Kochi in July 2002, which was a month seriously deficient in rainfall, indicating that
the deficiency was probably due to the relative absence of cumuliform clouds. Cumulative distribution graphs are also plotted
and fitted with the Weibull distribution. The fit parameters do not appear to have any consistent pattern. The higher intensities
also contributed significantly to total rainfall most of the time, except in Munnar (a hill station). In this analysis also,
the rainfall in Kochi in July 2002 was found to have less presence of high intensities. This supports the hypothesis that
the rainfall deficiency was probably caused by the absence of conditions that favoured the formation of cumuliform clouds. 相似文献

This research focuses on the application of three soft computing techniques including Minimax Probability Machine Regression(MPMR),Particle Swarm Optimization based Artificial Neural Network(ANN-PSO)and Particle Swarm Optimization based Adaptive Network Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS-PSO)to study the shallow foundation reliability based on settlement criteria.Soil is a heterogeneous medium and the involvement of its attributes for geotechnical behaviour in soil-foundation system makes the prediction of settlement of shallow a complex engineering problem.This study explores the feasibility of soft computing techniques against the deterministic approach.The settlement of shallow foundation depends on the parametersγ(unit weight),e0(void ratio)and CC(compression index).These soil parameters are taken as input variables while the settlement of shallow foundation as output.To assess the performance of models,different performance indices i.e.RMSE,VAF,R^2,Bias Factor,MAPE,LMI,U(95),RSR,NS,RPD,etc.were used.From the analysis of results,it was found that MPMR model outperformed PSO-ANFIS and PSO-ANN.Therefore,MPMR can be used as a reliable soft computing technique for non-linear problems for settlement of shallow foundations on soils. 相似文献

In an attempt to delineate heavy metal contamination precincts and to evaluate the extent and degree of toxic levels, besides
their possible sources, 38 water samples from Ankaleshwar Industrial Estate, south Gujarat, India were analyzed. By clutching
geochemical analyses and GIS-based colour composites areas depicting anomalously high concentration of heavy metals (Mo, Zn,
Pb, Ni, Co, Cd, etc.) in the groundwater were revealed. The multicomponent overlays in grey-scale facilitated in identifying
situates of heavy metal ‘hot spots’, and lateral protuberances of the contamination plume around defile stretch of the main
stream Amla Khadi flowing through the area. The multiple pollution plumes emerging from other parts of the area further coincide
with effluent laden streams and small channels indicating industrial establishments as major sources of groundwater contamination.
Influent nature of the streams, accelerated infiltration process, high mass influx and shallow groundwater table are the factors
conducive for easy access of heavy metals to the phreatic aquifers affecting over 20 km2 area. On the basis of P/U ratios (concentration of metals in polluted water to unpolluted water), geogenic and anthropogenic sources have been identified.
Very high levels of technogenic elements present in the ground water raise concerns about possible migration into food crops,
as the area is an important horticultural locale and is highly cultivated. 相似文献
