Major and minor element and radiochemical data are examined for a set of phosphorite concretions and other phosphatic material from the Namibian Shelf. The concretions were separated on a morphological basis from grab samples taken in a transect of shallowing depth over the diatomaceous ooze belt. Compositional data indicate that the samples are fairly pure carbonate-fluorapatite, and trend towards a maximum 32% P2O5 content. A range of compositional variability similar to other samples from the Namibian Shelf is observed.Radiochemical systematics confirm that pelletal phosphorite and glauconitized pelletal phosphorite from depths > 170 m are at radioactive equilibrium, and are therefore old and reworked. The concretions, collected from depths shallower than 78 m, are entirely Recent, with maximum ages in the range 500–3800 years. They may be much younger. Despite distinct textural and small compositional differences, similar ages are found for separates from the same grab. Samples of fish scales and an unidentified high-magnesian phosphate mineral are also shown to have incorporated uranium recently. 相似文献

In the present study an attempt has been made in order to evaluate the weathering and erosional status of a part of the Konkan coast stretching between Mumbai and Rajpuri, using IRS-IB, LISS-II data supported by spectral reflectance and thin section study of the rock samples collected from the coastal plains. The study revealed that extensive erosion has been taking place in few pockets along the Konkan Coastal plain, which is evidenced by the presence of more weathered rocks in the coastal plains as compared to that of the hinterland, siltation of the coastal wetlands due to the deposition of eroded materials and high-suspended sediments in the coastal water. The thin section study of the basaltic rock samples collected from the coast also shows evidence of physical and chemical weathering. The lineaments of the coastal tract are found to exist in clusters mostly trending towards NNE—SSW and a few N—S trending, this supports the presence of a N-S trending fault parallel to the Konkan coast along the Western Ghats. West coast of India is a narrow and linear, a portion from Bombay to Goa in this track is known as Konkan coast. Remotely Sensed geocoded data from IRS-1B has the potentiality in identification of localized patches of change in environmental parameters, which includes changes in lineament pattern, vegetation anomaly, rock debris and occurrence of landslides. Ground protuberances in this terrain are important surface manifestations of probable seismic activity. In these areas quaquaversal drainage pattern is inferred. Landslides are also expected in places near NH-17 (National Highway — 17) which may affect the socio-economic scenario of area. Alternate highway alignment is planned based on least hazard potentiality of the terrain. Weathered Basalts inferred, near the bank of Amba river, were not recommended for tunnel construction. Anomalous clay patches need more care for road construction. Inferred joints, fractures and faults were found in some places which were marked as hazardous locations. Some areas were marked hazardous for road construction due to the presence of palaeochannels but the same were marked as potential areas for ground water exploration. 相似文献

In jigging, amplitude and frequency of pulsation, and feed characteristics are the most important process parameters. Effects of these parameters on particle segregation during jigging are studied and explained through experimental as well as numerical means by drawing parallel to liquid/solid fluidization process. This is permissible because jigging could also be viewed as a repetitive process of fluidization and defluidization. Unlike a normal fluidization process, in jigging, particle segregation takes place under rapid rate of change of water velocity. The rate of change of water velocity is decided by the maximum water velocity of the jig cycle, which in turn is controlled primarily by the amplitude. Experimental evidence of the role of maximum water velocity on jigging is given. Next, the feed to the jig that varies in both size and density is conceived as a mixture of many density variant binary systems. This way, the effect of feed characteristic is conveniently analyzed through several indicators of the binary feed namely size ratio, volume fraction, and particle size. Finally, the effect of frequency is studied by considering the particles in the jig bed analogous to tuned mass dampers. The problem of electromagnetic radiation from electric and magnetic line sources interacting with a moving magnetoplasma slab backed by a finitely conducting medium is treated. The local magnetostatic field is aligned parallel with the line source and is perpendicular to the direction of slab motion. For the configuration, theE andH modes are excited independently by a magnetic and an electric line source respectively. Expressions for the far zone radiation fields and the radiation pattern have been obtained for both the line sources. It is found that the radiation due to an electric line source is not affected by the presence of a static magnetic field and the motion of the slab medium. Numerical results for the radiation pattern referring to both the line sources have been presented for a wide range of parameters characterizing the finite magnetostatic field, the conductivity of the medium backing the plasma, the thickness of the slab and the location of the line source. 相似文献

Here we report the spectral characteristics of the high and low states of the pulsar 4U 0114 + 65 and examine the change in
the parameters of the spectral model. A power law and a photoelectric absorption by material along the line of sight together
with a high energy cut-off suffice to describe the continuum spectrum in both the states. A fluorescence iron line at ∼6.4
keV is present in the high as well as in the low state, though it is less intense in the latter. The photon index, cut-off
energy and e-folding energy values hardly show any discernible change over the states. We compare these spectral characteristics
as observed with ASCA with those of other satellites. We also compare the spectral characteristics of 4U 0114 + 650 with other

We report here results from detailed timing and spectral studies of the high mass X-ray binary pulsar 4U 1538-52 over several
binary periods using observations made with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) and BeppoSAX satellites. Pulse timing analysis
with the 2003 RXTE data over two binary orbits confirms an eccentric orbit of the system. Combining the orbitial parameters
determined from this observation with the earlier measurements we did not find any evidence of orbital decay in this X-ray
binary. We have carried out orbital phase resolved spectroscopy to measure changes in the spectral parameters with orbital
phase, particularly the absorption column density and the iron line flux. The RXTE-PCA spectra in the 3–20 keV energy range
were fitted ∼6.4 keV, whereas the BeppoSAX spectra needed only a power law and Gaussian emission line at ∼6.4 keV in the restricted
energy range of 0.3–10.0 keV. An absorption along the line of sight was included for both the RXTE and BeppoSAX data. The
variation of the free spectral parameters over the binary orbit was investigated and we found that the variation of the column
density of absorbing material in the line of sight with orbital phase is in reasonable agreement with a simple model of a
spherically symmetric stellar wind from the companion star. 相似文献
