In the first part of this study, a series of stress-controlled hollow cylinder cyclic torsional triaxial shear tests were conducted on loose to medium dense saturated samples of clean Toyoura sand to investigate its liquefaction behavior. A uniform cyclic sinusoidal loading at a 0.1 Hz frequency was applied to air-pluviated samples where confining pressure and relative density was varied. Cyclic shear stress–strain changes, the number of cycles to reach liquefaction and pore pressure variations were recorded. Results indicate that the liquefaction resistances of uniform sands are significantly affected by the method of sample preparation and initial conditions. 相似文献
This paper presents the results of shaking table model tests which were carried out to investigate the pore water pressure
generation and related liquefaction mechanism in layered sand deposits. The experiments were performed on uniform sand columns,
silt interlayered sand columns and two layered sand columns deposited at various relative densities and subjected to different
input excitations. During the experiments excess pore water pressures were measured by pore pressure transducers installed
at three different depths and, surface settlements and thickness of water film developed under less permeable inclusions were
measured by a digital camera. The experimental results are discussed and compared to demonstrate the effects of relative density,
input acceleration and presence of a silt seam on the generation of excess pore water pressure in sand deposits subjected
to dynamic loading. The results showed that the presence of a less permeable silt interlayer within the sand deposit and existence
of a loose sand layer underlying dense sand deposits can have significant effect on the pore water pressure generation mechanism. 相似文献
Summary. Metallicity is a key parameter that controls many aspects in the formation and evolution of stars and galaxies. In this review
we focus on the metal deficient galaxies, in particular the most metal-poor ones, because they play a crucial r?le in the
cosmic scenery. We first set the stage by discussing the difficult problem of defining a global metallicity and how this quantity
can be measured for a given galaxy. The mechanisms that control the metallicity in a galaxy are reviewed in detail and involve
many aspects of modern astrophysics: galaxy formation and evolution, massive star formation, stellar winds, chemical yields,
outflows and inflows etc. Because metallicity roughly scales as the galactic mass, it is among the dwarfs that the most metal-poor
galaxies are found. The core of our paper reviews the considerable progress made in our understanding of the properties and
the physical processes that are at work in these objects. The question on how they are related and may evolve from one class
of objects to another is discussed. While discussing metal-poor galaxies in general, we present a more detailed discussion
of a few very metal-poor blue compact dwarf galaxies like IZw18. Although most of what is known relates to our local universe,
we show that it pertains to our quest for primeval galaxies and is connected to the question of the origin of structure in
the universe. We discuss what do QSO absorption lines and known distant galaxies tell us already? We illustrate the importance
of star-forming metal-poor galaxies for the determination of the primordial helium abundance, their use as distance indicator
and discuss the possibility to detect nearly metal-free galaxies at high redshift from Ly emission.

In this article, we document a detailed analytical characterisation of zircon M127, a homogeneous 12.7 carat gemstone from Ratnapura, Sri Lanka. Zircon M127 has TIMS‐determined mean U–Pb radiogenic isotopic ratios of 0.084743 ± 0.000027 for 206Pb/238U and 0.67676 ± 0.00023 for 207Pb/235U (weighted means, 2s uncertainties). Its 206Pb/238U age of 524.36 ± 0.16 Ma (95% confidence uncertainty) is concordant within the uncertainties of decay constants. The δ18O value (determined by laser fluorination) is 8.26 ± 0.06‰ VSMOW (2s), and the mean 176Hf/177Hf ratio (determined by solution ICP‐MS) is 0.282396 ± 0.000004 (2s). The SIMS‐determined δ7Li value is ?0.6 ± 0.9‰ (2s), with a mean mass fraction of 1.0 ± 0.1 μg g?1 Li (2s). Zircon M127 contains ~ 923 μg g?1 U. The moderate degree of radiation damage corresponds well with the time‐integrated self‐irradiation dose of 1.82 × 1018 alpha events per gram. This observation, and the (U–Th)/He age of 426 ± 7 Ma (2s), which is typical of unheated Sri Lankan zircon, enable us to exclude any thermal treatment. Zircon M127 is proposed as a reference material for the determination of zircon U–Pb ages by means of SIMS in combination with hafnium and stable isotope (oxygen and potentially also lithium) determination. 相似文献
New data from a geochemical, geochronological and isotopic study of the Late Precambrian Timna igneous complex suggest the formation of alkali granites from a LIL-enriched, mantle derived, sanukitoid-type monzodiorite (a silica oversaturated rock with Mg# >60). These data also provide new insights into the petrology, timing and regional tectonic control of the transition from the calc-alkaline to the alkaline magmatic activity in the northern Arabian-Nubian Shield (ANS) during the Late Precambrian.
The Timna alkali granite was formed by fractional crystallization from the monzodioritic magma in a quasi-stratified magmatic cell which formed 610 Ma ago in the 625 Ma old calc-alkaline, porphyritic granite crust. These monzodiorites are mantle-derived, as demonstrated by their high Mg# (63), Cr (230 ppm), and Ni (120 ppm). They are characterized by initial 87Sr/86Sr of 0.7034, ε-Nd (610 Ma) = +3.4, and are enriched in K2O (2.9%), Sr (840 ppm), Ba (1290 ppm) and LREE [(La/Lu)n= 10–25]. The chemical characteristics and REE patterns of the monzodiorites and andesitic dykes of Timna are very similar to Dokhan andesites from northeastern Egypt and the Archean sanukitoids from Canada. The isotopic, geochemical and geochronologic data all indicate that Timna monzodiorites are comagmatic with the alkali granite. The alkali granite is a typical post-orogenic, borderline A-type granite. It is enriched in potassium (K2O=4.68–6.64%), has a negative europium anomaly (Eu/Eu*=0.058–0.38) and ε-Nd (610 Ma) of +3.9. The calc-alkaline granite is a typical I-type granite with a small positive europium anomaly (Eu/Eu*=1.02–1.16). Its age and the Sr, Nd and Pb isotopic characteristics with ε-Nd (625 Ma) of +5.6 to +5.9 are significantly different from these of the alkali granite and monzodiorites, and indicate little interaction with the monzodiorite during the formation of the alkali granite.
The alkali granites are correlative with the post-collisional extensional granites in Jordan and Egypt while the porphyritic granites can be correlated with the late orogenic types. Crustal thickening associated with orogenic compression resulted in crustal anatexis to form the I-type granitic rocks, whereas crustal thinning associated with extension allowed LIL-enriched mantle melts to rise very near to the surface, where space was available for these to pond and fractionate to alkali granite. 相似文献
At the Kristineberg mine, northern Sweden, sulphidic mine tailings were remediated in an 8-year pilot-scale experiment using sewage sludge to evaluate its applicability as a sealing layer in a composite dry cover. Sediment, leachate water, and pore gas geochemistry were collected in the aim of determining if the sludge was an effective barrier material to mitigate acid rock drainage (ARD) formation. The sludge was an effective barrier to oxygen influx as it formed both a physical obstruction and functioned as an organic reactive barrier to prevent oxygen to the underlying tailings. Sulphide oxidation and consequential ARD formation did not occur. Sludge-borne trace elements accumulated in a reductive, alkaline environment in the underlying tailings, resulting in an effluent drainage geochemistry of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn below 10 μg/L, high alkalinity (810 mg/L) and low sulphate (38 mg/L). In contrast, the uncovered reference tailings received a 0.35-m deep oxidation front and typical ARD, with dissolved concentrations of Cd, Zn and sulphate, 20.8 μg/L, 16,100 μg/L and 1,390 mg/L, respectively. Organic matter degradation in the sludge may be a limiting factor to the function of the sealing layer over time as 85 % loss of the organic fraction occurred over the 8-year experimental period due to aerobic and anaerobic degradation. Though the cover may function in the short to medium term (100 years), it is unlikely to meet the demands of a long-term remedial solution. 相似文献
Summary ?A code for the simulation of atmospheric flows in 3D is presented. The underlying mathematical model is fully compressible,
it takes gravity into account but Coriolis forces, turbulence and viscosity are neglected. The general numerical code consists
of a finite volume discretization on unstructured hexahedral grids in 3D. The code is presently being investigated on applications
to the calculation of atmospheric gravity waves on a mesh which has a structured type and is locally refined near the orography.
We develop two schemes, the main difference between them lies in the different discretizations for the mass fluxes. We show
that both schemes resolve typical structures of gravity waves in potential flow, linear hydrostatic motion and nonlinear non-hydrostatic
regime. We compare advantages and disadvantages of the developed schemes.

Single zircon ages determined by ion microprobe (SHRIMP II) for granitoid gneisses from the southern slope of the Baga Bogd
massif (Gobi-Altai, southern Mongolia) reveal several episodes of zircon growth, ranging from late Palaeoproterozoic to late
Cambrian. The oldest events are documented by a zircon crystallization age for a gneiss protolith at 1519 ± 11 Ma and by a
xenocrystic zircon from a dark grey augen-gneiss yielding an age of c. 1701 Ma. Discrete igneous events are recorded in granite-gneisses
with protolith emplacement ages of 983 ± 6, 956 ± 3 and 954 ± 8 Ma. These ages provide the first record of early Neoproterozoic
magmatic activity in this region. A much younger and discrete magmatic event is recorded by several dioritic to granitic orthogneisses
which are tectonically interlayered with the older gneisses and have protolith emplacement ages between 502 and 498 Ma. These
late Cambrian granitoids of calc-alkaline affinity are likely to have been emplaced along an active continental margin and
suggest that the Baga Bogd Precambrian crustal fragment was either docked against the southward (present-day coordinates)
growing margin of the CAOB or was a large enough crustal entity to develop an arc along its margin. We speculate that the
Precambrian gneisses of this massif may be part of a crustal fragment rifted off the Tarim Craton. 相似文献
The Epupa Metamorphic Complex constitutes the southwestern margin of the Congo Craton and is exposed in a hilly to mountainous terrain of northwestern Namibia, bordering the Kunene River and extending into southern Angola. It consists predominantly of granitoid gneisses which are migmatized over large areas. This migmatization locally led to anatexis and produced crustal-melt granites such as the Otjitanda Granite. We have undertaken reconnaissance geochemical studies and single zircon U–Pb SHRIMP and Pb–Pb evaporation dating of rocks of the Epupa Complex. The granitoid gneisses, migmatites and anatectic melts are similar in composition and constitute a suite of metaluminous to peraluminous, calc-alkaline granitoids, predominantly with volcanic arc geochemical signatures. The zircon protolith ages for the orthogneisses range from 1861 ± 3 to 1758 ± 3 Ma. Anatexis in the migmatitic Epupa gneisses was dated from a melt patch at 1762 ± 4 Ma, and the anatectic Otjitanda Granite has a zircon age of 1757 ± 4 Ma. Migmatization and anatexis therefore occurred almost immediately after granitoid emplacement and date a widespread high-temperature Palaeoproterozoic event at ∼1760 Ma which has not been recorded elswhere in northern Namibia. The Nd isotopic systematics of all dated samples are surprisingly similar and suggest formation of the protolith from a source region that probably separated from the depleted mantle about 2.4–2.0 Ga ago. A major Archaean component in the source area is unlikely. 相似文献
