A method for analysis of response of axisymmetric towers partly submerged in water to earthquake ground motion is presented. The tower is idealized as a finite element system. The hydrodynamic terms are determined by solving the Laplace equation, governing the dynamics of incompressible fluids, subject to appropriate boundary conditions. For cylindrical towers, these solutions are obtained as explicit mathematical solutions of the boundary value problems; whereas they are obtained by the finite element method in case of towers with non-cylindrical outside surface. The response to earthquake ground motion is determined by step-by-step integration of the equations of motion. Analyses of two actual intake towers are presented to illustrate results obtained by this method. The small computation times required for these analyses demonstrate that the method is very efficient. The effectiveness of this formulation lies in avoiding the analysis of a large system by using a substructure approach and in exploiting the important feature that structural response to earthquake ground motion is essentially contained in the first few modes of vibration of the tower with no surrounding water.  相似文献

The effects of interaction with surrounding water on the dynamic response behaviour of cantilever tower structures are studied. Expressions for response to harmonic ground motion in individual modes of vibration, including hydrodynamic interaction, are presented, the accuracy of responses obtained by ignoring surface waves and compressibility of water in the hydrodynamic solutions is evaluated, the effects of hydrodynamic interaction on the fundamental period of vibration are studied and the commonly used ‘added mass’ approach to account for effects of surrounding water is examined. The conclusions deduced from the results of this investigation include the following. Interaction with surrounding water increases the fundamental period of vibration of the tower and decreases the modal damping ratio. Compressibility of water has essentially no influence in the hydrodynamic effects on slender towers. The traditional definition of added mass is conceptually deficient, but is simple to employ; the errors in this simple added mass representation are negligible for the first mode of vibration of towers.  相似文献

The results from field tests on Pine Flat Dam near Fresno, California, are described. The results are then used in the formulation of a three-dimensional mathematical model of the dam and a two-dimensional mathematical model of one of the taller monoliths. The significance of these mathematical models in relationship to the behaviour of concrete gravity dams during earthquakes is also discussed.  相似文献

Previous works on database integration focused mainly on the creation of transformation interfaces between incompatible databases built up by different departments of the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration, ignoring the demands of systematically and flexibly integrated information for advanced pollution control of point sources. To provide a systematic framework for flexible integration of distributed data, this paper presents a general model as the systematic object event data model based on systems thinking, to improve the integration capability of databases. The conceptual database framework for integrated pollution control was proposed as a result of the application of the systematic object event data model. The fundamental part of the systematic object event data model, creation of the object registry database, was put into practice from the year 2008. The object database of pollution source is available to factories in 2009, which helps factories to create and Taiwan environmental protection administration to maintain the consistent object data through the electronic application processes of permits. To construct various event databases that systematically connect to object database would be the following step to more efficiently provide systematic information from systematic data integration.  相似文献

This study synthesizes literature to provide a best estimate for the integrated effect of cloud-to-ground lightning, intracloud lightning, and corona discharge on air and precipitation chemistry for an idealized thunderstorm. The cloud volume concentration of NO (the predominant chemical species produced by lightning), assuming all flashes occurred simultaneously in an undiluted, idealized storm volume of 1.5×103 km3, is approximately 0.8 ppbv at STP. Uncertainties are discussed, and assumptions used in this estimate are evaluated and compared to the literature for consistency. Also, NO production values (an average of field, theoretical, and laboratory observations) are used to scale theoretical estimates of other chemical species produced by lightning that can be scavenged by precipitation. The maximum concentrations of these pollutants in rain water are estimated by assuming complete removal of these select, acid rain related species and found to be insignificant.  相似文献

"This paper uses a multivariate logit model to study the factors affecting the Japanese household heads' propensities to co-reside with elderly parents, based on the micro data of a 1986 national survey. Our major findings are as follows. The most important factors are (1) inheritance of house or residential land from parent; (2) parent's spouseless status and age; (3) household head's sibling status; and (4) household head's nativity status. In a multivariate context, the negative effect of the household head's level of education was significant but not very important, whereas the presence of a working wife with child had a very weak positive effect on the co-residence with parent. Our overall conclusion is that the intergenerational co-residence in Japan is strongly affected by cultural norms and has a strong rational (economic) basis."  相似文献

An effective method for the linear analysis of dynamic response of submerged underwater oil storage tanks resting on a horizontal seabed to horizontal earthquake excitations is presented. The tank is axisymmetric in shape, has a flexible wall/roof, and is filled with oil and water. A general hybrid-finite element solution procedure has been formulated, wherein the tank structure, the interior fluids, as well as the near-field of the exterior water region are discretized into a toroidal finite-element network. The tank displacement is calculated as a superposition of the first few modes of the structure's free vibration. Contribution from the hydrodynamic interaction to the coupled motion is obtained by solving the Laplace equation with the appropriate boundary conditions, which includes a matching to the exterior far-field pressure (analytic) representation to simplify the computation process. The effects of fluids surrounding and inside the tank are studied. It is demonstrated that these effects have, in general, a significant impact on the tank earthquake response analysis.A comprehensive and predictive computer program for use in such tank response analysis has been developed for engineering applications.  相似文献

A new structural system for earthquake resistant steel structures is investigated in this paper. This new framing system, called the knee-brace-frame (KBF), is a braced frame with diagonal braces connected to ductile knee members. The diagonal braces provide the lateral stiffness, whereas the knee anchors yield in flexure to dissipate energy during severe seismic excitation. To assess the inelastic characteristics of the KBF, a large scale model of a KBF was tested using the pseudodynamic test procedure. The experimental results are compared with analytical results obtained from a DRAIN-2D model. It is found that, with an appropriate design of knee anchors, the KBF can be made to be ductile to dissipate energy during severe seismic excitation.  相似文献
