The use of wastewater for irrigation in sandy soil increases the pollution risk of the soil and may infiltrate to the shallow
groundwater aquifer. In such environment, some important parameters need to be obtained for monitoring the wastewater in the
unsaturated zone over the aquifer. These parameters include clay content, heterogeneities of the upper soils, depth to the
aquifer and the variations of groundwater quality. In the present work, the efficiency of DC resistivity method in forms of
1-D and 2-D measurements was studied for wastewater monitoring in the Gabal el Asfar farm, northeast of Cairo, Egypt. Forty-one
Schlumberger soundings (VES) were performed then followed by three pole-dipole 2-D profiles along some considered regions
within the area. The resistivity measurements were integrated with the boreholes, hydrogeological and hydrochemical (surface
and groundwater samples) information to draw a clear picture for the subsurface conditions. The obtained results were presented
as cross sections and 3-D visualization to trace the clay intercalations within the unsaturated zone. In addition, a vulnerability
map was created using the obtained results from 1-D Schlumberger survey and confirmed with the 2-D resistivity profiling.
The obtained results have shown that the 2-D resistivity imaging technique is a powerful tool for mapping the small-scale
variability within the unsaturated zone and the wastewater infiltration. However, limitations of resistivity techniques were
observed in the area with limited resistivity contrast such as thin clay layers with brackish water background. Under that
condition, the measured pattern of resistivity distributions depends on the applied electrode array, electrode spacing and

In order to investigate the conversion of kinetic energy from a synoptic scale disturbance (SSD; period≤seven days) to a low-frequency fluctuation (LFF; period〉seven days), the budget equation of the LFF kinetic energy is derived. The energy conversion is then calculated and analyzed for the summers of 1997 and 1999. The results show that the energy conversion from the SSD to the LFF is obviously enhanced in the middle and lower troposphere during the heavy rainfall, suggesting this to be one of mechanisms inducing the heavy rainfall, although the local LFF kinetic energy may not be enhanced. 相似文献

Slope inclinometers/indicators are used to determine the magnitude, rate, direction, depth, and type of landslide movement.
This information is usually vitally important for understanding the cause, behavior, and remediation of a landslide. However,
many inclinometer measurements fail to achieve these intended aims because of lack of appreciation of the many factors that
need to be correctly implemented during installation, monitoring, and data reduction to yield useful data. This paper presents
some guidelines for understanding, installing, and interpreting slope inclinometers and presents three case histories that

The species of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd and Cr in sediments of the Taihu Lake, China, have been analyzed using the sequential chemical extraction method. Variations in the chemical fractions of these metals and their geographic distributions have also been studied. For all five metals, the residual fraction is highest but the exchangeable fraction is lowest among all the fractions. Compared to other metals, Cd has the highest percentage in the exchangeable fraction, and Cr is associated mainly with the residual fraction. Cu in the organic fraction and Pb in the Fe-Mn fraction are the important species, whereas the lowest percentages are found for Cd in the organic fraction, Cu in the Fe-Mn oxide fraction and Pb in the carbonate fraction. With respect to spatial differences, the total contents in the non-residual fractions of the metals in bay sediments are found to be higher than those in other sediments. The fractions of Cd, Cu and Cr showed significant variations in different regions. The fractions of Pb and Zn, however, did not show significant variations in spatial distribution, suggesting different amounts and different paths of anthropogenic input for the metals. The Plechy pluton, southwestern Bohemian Massif, represents a late-Variscan, complexly zoned intrusive center emplaced near
the crustal-scale Pfahl shear zone; the pluton thus provides an opportunity to examine the interplay among successive emplacement
of large magma batches, magmatic fabric acquisition, and the late-Variscan stress field associated with strike-slip shearing.
The magmatic history of the pluton started with the emplacement of the porphyritic Plechy and Haidmühler granites. Based on
gravity and structural data, we interpret that the Plechy and Haidmühler granites were emplaced as a deeply rooted, ∼NE–SW
elongated body; its gross shape and internal fabric (steep ∼NE–SW magmatic foliation) may have been controlled by the late-Variscan
stress field. The steep magmatic foliation changes into flat-lying foliation (particularly recorded by AMS) presumably as
a result of divergent flow. Magnetic lineations correspond to a sub-horizontal ∼NE–SW finite stretch associated with the divergent
flow. Subsequently, the Třístoličník granite, characterized by steep margin-parallel magmatic foliation, was emplaced as a
crescent-shaped body in the central part of the pluton. The otherwise inward-younging intrusive sequence was completed by
the emplacement of the outermost and the most evolved garnet-bearing granite (the Marginal granite) along the southeastern
margin of the pluton.

Using the model system MM5.V3 and multi-layer grid nesting technique, we have done a multi-scale numerical simulation over
the area of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province to analyze the temperature and wind field there and study its local circulations.
The results show a coupling effect of Urban Heat Island Circulation (UHIC), Mountain Valley Breeze (MVB) and Sea Land Breeze
(SLB) occurs in this area when the synoptic system is weak. The SLB can penetrate deep into the mainland for about 200 km
when it is blooming. MVB can extend to south and cover almost the whole plain area in Beijing. Both MVB and SLB are diurnal
periodical; meanwhile the phase of MVB drops behind that of SLB for about six hours. As a local circulation, the UHIC weakens
the two circulations above, and it also has a diurnal period. As a result, the coupling effect of circulations reveals not
only different features in spring-summer period and autumn-winter period in a year but also the difference between early morning
to noonday and afternoon to night in a day. We noted the diffusion of contamination over the area around Beijing, and found
the steady presence of a transport routine of contamination over North-China throughout the year caused by the Coupling Effect
mentioned above. This find is important for studying the environment pollution in this area.

The Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) links upper ocean waters of the west Pacific and Indian Ocean, modulates heat and fresh water budgets between these oceans, and in turn plays an important role in global climate change. The climatic phenomena such as the East Asian monsoon and El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) exert a strong influence on flux, water properties and vertical stratification of the ITF. This work studied sediments of Core SO18462 that was retrieved from the outflow side of the ITF in the Timor Sea in order to investigate response of the ITF to monsoon and ENSO activities since the last glacial. Based on Mg/Ca ratios and oxygen isotopes in shells of planktonic foraminiferal surface and thermocline species, seawater temperatures and salinity of both surface and thermocline waters and vertical thermal gradient of the ITF outflow were reconstructed. Records of Core SO18462 were then compared with those from Core 3cBX that was recovered from the western Pacific warm pool (WPWP). The results displayed that similar surface waters occurred in the Timor Sea and the WPWP during the last glacial. Since ~16 ka, an apparent difference in surface waters between these two regions exists in salinity, indicated by much fresher waters in the Timor Sea than in the WPWP. In contrast, there is little change in difference of sea surface temperatures (SSTs). With regard to thermocline temperature (TT), it increased until ~11.5 ka since the last glacial, and then remained an overall unchanged trend in the WPWP but continuously decreased in the Timor Sea towards the late Holocene. Since ~6 ka, thermocline waters have tended to be close to each other in between the Timor Sea and the WPWP. It is indicated that intensified precipitation due to East Asian monsoon and possible ENSO cold phase significantly freshened surface waters over the Indonesian Seas, impeding the ITF surface flow and in turn having enhanced thermocline flow during the Holocene. Consequently, thermocline water of the ITF outflow was cooling and thermocline was shoaling towards the late Holocene. It is speculated that, in addition to strengthening of East Asian winter monsoon, increasing ENSO events during the late Holocene likely played an important role in influencing thermocline depth of the ITF outflow. 相似文献

Iranian strong motion records as well as detailed conditions of their instrument sites and the characteristics of their causative seismic sources are compiled and processed. The dataset consists of 2286 three-component records from 461 Iranian earthquakes with at least two high-quality records having moment magnitude from 3.9 to 7.3. These records are about 20% of the Iranian database and are suitable for seismic hazard analysis and engineering applications. Perhaps for the first time in the literature, the distance to the surface projection of the fault is reported for a great number of records corresponding to earthquakes with M > 6.0. The raw accelerations are processed using the wavelet de-noising method. Having corrected and filtered these raw data, the pseudospectral accelerations are calculated for each of the three components of time series, separately. In addition to the ground motion parameters, a large and comprehensive list of metadata characterizing the recording conditions of each record is also developed. Moreover, careful revision of the characteristics of the earthquakes such as location, magnitude, style of faulting and fault rupture plane geometry, if available, is carried out using the best available information in a scientifically sound manner. Finally, we also focus on special ground motion records including records with peak ground acceleration (PGA) >300 cm/s2 and distances less than 30 km.
